PB hotel design editorial

That diamond-grid facade rising above Gangnam-daero — white structural fins laid over deep-blue glazing in a lattice pattern that shifts character entirely between day and dusk — gives voco Seoul Gangnam one of the district's more visually assertive exteriors, the geometry referencing traditional Korean pojagi patchwork textile patterns translated into curtain wall architecture. The tower sits in the heart of Gangnam, Seoul's most commercially pressured neighbourhood, where the brief for any new hotel demands immediate legibility from street level, and the crosshatch cladding delivers exactly that, the illuminated facade functioning almost as a lantern above the tree-lined boulevard after dark. Inside, the interiors work across two distinct registers. The more relaxed guest rooms layer warm oak wall panelling against stone-topped oval bedside tables and freestanding soaking tubs positioned toward floor-to-ceiling windows, the palette running to cream and navy with bursts of amber in the artwork. A second room type pushes into bolder territory — deep olive-green feature walls, ink-splashed leather headboards with a deliberately distressed finish, Verner Panton-adjacent dome table lamps, and mustard curtains that shift the atmosphere closer to a design-forward apartment than a conventional hotel room. The all-day dining room deploys black marble tabletops, white-framed barrel chairs with chartreuse upholstery, and a mirrored ceiling above the bar. The rooftop terrace, strung with festoon lighting beneath billowing white sail canopies and furnished with concrete bar counters and rattan seating, gives Gangnam's business corridor an unexpectedly relaxed outdoor room.

voco Seoul Gangnam, an IHG Hotel Reviews

"I had a great stay at Voco Seoul Gangnam by IHG. The location is fantastic — just a 5-minute walk from Sinsa Station, and there’s almost everything you need right around the hotel. There’s a UNIQLO right across the street, plus KFC, coffee shops, pharmacies, and even a 24-hour restaurant nearby, which made my stay super convenient. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. Room service is available until 11 PM daily, which is a nice plus. My only small disappointment was that the in-room dining menu didn’t offer many Korean food options. Housekeeping overall was good, and the lady who cleaned my room was very friendly and kind. I did notice that there were a few pieces of garbage under the bed, so attention to detail in that area could be improved slightly. I also appreciated how thoughtful the staff were. On the first day when I did not request cleaning service, they hung a bag of fresh towels and bottled water on my door, which was perfect. However, on the second day, I returned from lunch and found four new bottles of water placed on the minibar table and my towels replaced — even though my “Do Not Disturb” light was still on. I understand the intention was to provide fresh supplies, which I appreciate, but it would have been better if the front desk had called to confirm before entering the room. One more highlight: my floor had a shared public kitchen where guests can cook or microwave food, which I think is a great feature, especially for longer stays. Overall, despite the small issues, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely consider coming back."

"I usually don't leave reviews unless if it is negative or if I am very pleased.I am very pleased this time is why I am writing this review. We travel a lot in Europe, Caribbean, Virgin Islands, you name it. Every time we travel we stay at pricey hotels where we pay close to $850 and up per night. The purpose of this travel was medical and we booked this hotel because it was just a walking distance from the clinic where I had my surgery. It wasn't expensive but it was 1000 times better then any other hotels we've ever stayed. The hotel is small and cozy with very friendly staff. Hotel grounds and the rooms are spotless clean which sometimes you can't find at the most expensive hotels. The breakfast buffet was the BEST! I never had anything like this before. Very generous amount of food, organization the way everything was served and presented was stunning! We will be back in June for more surgeries and we will definitely stay here again. VOCO I am in love! ❤️"

"The hotel is very close to Sinsa Station (Line 3) that makes it easy to go downtown. It is also surrounding by Gangnam shopping areas. The room is clean and nicely furnished. We booked a room with a Hinoki bathtub and used it almost everyday. It had this very nice scent. Unfortunately, the bed and pillows were not really comfortable. I think the mattress was too soft. It slightly affected the quality of my sleep. The floor also had a pantry, which was really useful to reheat your food or cook something light. We tried the hotel breakfast. It was alright. Nothing amazing but not bad either. Service was okay. The senior staff were perfect but I think the junior ones needed more training. Jenny was particularly helpful. She helped us with checking out and booking a taxi to the airport. Overall: 4.4/5.0"

"I mainly chose to stay here as it was super close to the appointments I had in Gangnam, the location is very convenient being a 5 minute walk from Sinsa station & the area is very cool, with lots of small bakeries/cafes/bars within 5 minutes walk. You can also get down to the Hann river really easily, for a run/walk. I love to stay in a room with a bath & so picked the room with the Hinoki bathtub, which was lovely (once I had worked out how to remove the seat as it was super deep & whilst very short I could fully immerse myself). The rooms are well designed with a free mini bar (restocked daily) that even included Makoli & beer, as well as snacks. There are filter coffee bags as well & they had even thought about having a charger with a selection of leads by the bedside. The only thing that was a little strange was the master switch was on the wall opposite the bed rather than by the bed. They gave me a 20% off voucher for the hotel restaurant which I used the first night I was there, food & drinks were reasonably priced before the discount. I didn't go for breakfast as it seemed expensive, but there was plenty of choice around the hotel, including a Starbucks about 2 minutes away. Its the first time I have stayed in a Voco hotel & loved the fact there was also a little kitchen on each floor with a microwave & water machine, I believe there is also a laundry room but I didn't make use of it. I would definitely consider staying in other Voco's after my experience here."
