PB hotel design editorial

Frank Gehry's 54-storey exoskeletal tower, its white steel diagrid visible from nearly every point along Barcelona's coastline, was conceived not as a hotel but as the Olympic Village's most commanding landmark — built for the 1992 Games before Hotel Arts Barcelona took over the upper floors of what became one of the defining pieces of architecture in the city's post-industrial reinvention. At street level, Gehry's giant copper fish sculpture curves above the pool terrace with the structural confidence of something that has always belonged there, the latticed bronze form casting shifting shadows across sun loungers and Mediterranean-blue water in a composition that makes most hotel pool decks seem thoroughly ordinary by comparison. The 483 rooms, interiors handled by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, work the tower's extraordinary height without overplaying it. Warm iroko timber wall panels run floor-to-ceiling behind beds, grounding rooms that might otherwise feel suspended in sky, while deep-set windows frame the Mediterranean on one elevation and the Eixample grid on the other. The palette is restrained — cream linens, dark walnut nightstands, boucle accent chairs — letting the views do the architectural work. The bar and dining spaces lower in the building take a different register altogether: candlelit, plush, and deliberately interior in character, with globe-pendant chandeliers and dark tile detailing creating the kind of atmosphere that earns its keep after dark when the panoramic rooms above have already made their point.

""Truly the best hotel in Barcelona." The location is perfect for going anywhere, the views of both the ocean and the city are breathtaking, and the service provided by the entire staff is top-notch. On top of that, the hotel restaurant is delicious, the club lounge is absolutely wonderful, and the rooms are comfortable and equipped with the latest amenities—everything was truly flawless. I would especially like to thank the staff for the beautiful room decorations for our 30th wedding anniversary. It was an incredibly fantastic welcome. Among all the great things, the absolute best part was the exceptional service from every single staff member without exception. Please give them all a big raise! ^^ I am leaving with such wonderful memories. I will definitely come back. Thank you so much."

"Had a fantastic 3 night stay here. Very modern / clean / smart hotel. Staff were brilliant, couldn’t do enough and were super helpful. Paula on concierge was brilliant!!! and Alex also. Nice pool area and the food was superb. We ate in bites for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as the Marina Restaurant for lunch. Highly recommended - loved it."

"Hotel Arts Barcelona absolutely delivered. From check-in to check-out, the hospitality was top tier — the team was attentive, responsive, and genuinely warm every step of the way. I must give a shoutout to their incredible concierge team which helped me secure impressive seats at the FC Barcelona game and a last minute massage. Little details made a big difference. Diptyque products in the bathroom felt like a luxe touch that set the tone for the whole stay. The room was beautiful and so comfortable; I did not want to leave. The spa was a highlight; one of the best massages I’ve had. And the gym space was impressive, well-equipped and well-maintained. My only regret? I didn’t carve out more time to enjoy everything the property has to offer. Already thinking about the next visit!"

"Stayed in a standard king-bed room and have to say: I enjoyed it very much. The room was spacious, had a perfect layout, great closet space, was very clean, nice big bathroom, lots of light. Nice amenities and a very comfortable bed. It does help, of course, that the room is brand-new-ish. Every staff member was absolutely enjoyable to speak with and everyone was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast: Great spread, very nice outdoor seating area. Is it worth EUR 45 if breakfast isn’t included in your rate- not sure, but for the convenience, why not. In short: I’d stay there again, wouldn’t need to think about it twice."
