PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Carrer de la Diputació, where the Eixample's chamfered blocks carry some of Barcelona's most celebrated Modernista facades, a six-storey building originally completed in the early twentieth century provided the shell for Monument Hotel. The exterior — warm brick rising above an ornate stone base dressed with wrought-iron balconies and Gothic-inflected crestwork — belongs entirely to its neighbourhood, yet the interiors by Lazaro Rosa-Violán work a deliberate counterpoint: the Barcelona studio's signature layering of raw materials given a warmer, more sensuously domestic register than usual. Exposed handmade brick in amber and terracotta runs across bedroom walls, offset by continuous panels of pale European oak — on floors laid in herringbone, on ceilings, on full-height joinery screens that divide sleeping and sitting areas without closing them off. Pendant globes in frosted glass, leather sofas in caramel tones, and hammered-brass side tables complete a palette that keeps the energy of the street outside without importing its noise. The rooftop pool terrace shifts register entirely: a teak deck edged with sculptural white planters and wicker day beds opens beside a glazed pavilion framed in black steel, the city's roofline stretching south toward the sea. Below, the hotel's restaurant deploys a perforated brass ceiling above oak parquet and a steel-framed wine wall, chandelier filaments suspended in loose organic cascades that echo the Modernista ornamental vocabulary of the building's own facade — the oldest and the newest elements here in quiet conversation.

"as a frequent traveler on numerous business and personal vacation trips globally. The overall hotel experience of the hotel was unexpectedly incompleted. We even have to request for sufficient towels for 2 persons and replenished of the fridge which is supposed to be a completed service while making up the room."

"Our first visit to Barcelona and what a treat! The Monument Hotel was truly a five star experience. This hotel, and more importantly the staff, surpassed all of our expectations. The hotel itself is beautiful - resurrected from a structure built long ago, but it is the people that make all of the difference. Warm, smart, polite, and attentive, are words that come immediately to mind. To begin, the concierge staff is AMAZING; Xavi, Juan, and Chresten are a team all- stars! They are super knowledgable about the city and truly go the extra mile to make your stay an unforgettable one. From making dinning reservations, giving precise directions on how to get places on foot, to last minute efforts to get you seats at places where there is no capacity - their service goes above and beyond! Other staff members are very helpful, and willing and eager to please. Laia, who is part of the F&B team could not have been nicer and enthusiastically knowledgeable about her city. The housekeeping staff worked like clockwork; the minute we left our room, the room would be cleaned, sheets changed, and refrigerator restocked. Front desk staff and the check-in/check-out process was efficient and took only a few minutes. The staff at Glasss, as well as Bera, highlighted by the service of Massimo and Hammington, were wonderful - trained professionals who served swiftly and with warmth. We have stayed at and enjoyed numerous highly rated hotels, but this was one of the best to date - by far. The location is perfect, and you will be right in the heart of the city, within walking distance of so much that Barcelona has to offer. Thank you Monument Hotel for an unforgettable experience!"

"Upper management never contacted me back for issues about constant noise from subway staying on first floor. After an early morning flight and getting only 4 hours sleep, The Monument Hotel checked us in and gave us a room on level 1. All night we heard the subway. The hotel is above the subway station and it ran all night. We only got 3 hours sleep. Four months in advance, we advised due to me waiting for a kidney transplant, I need a room quiet and clean. The bathroom shower leaked all over the bathroom floor leading to the bedroom, constant noise from subway all night, and loud taking in main corridor could be heard. I talked with Ricardo at the guest reception check in and he said will contact the GM to contact me. Still waiting over 1 week with no reply for inconvenience. Poor upper manager who did not care for guest."

"The Monument Hotel’s location is fantastic. The most memorable part of my stay was the exceptional concierge service. They helped me with everything I needed and took care of every detail with genuine warmth and professionalism. On top of that, the three-Michelin-star restaurant, Lasarte, was an absolutely outstanding fine dining experience. The food, service, and overall atmosphere were truly exceptional. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant to anyone visiting Barcelona."
