PB hotel design editorial

At the foot of Las Ramblas where the boulevard dissolves into the old port, a late-nineteenth-century Eixample-adjacent building clad in dressed limestone and wrapped in wrought-iron balustrades carries Soho House Barcelona within its six floors — the ornate entrance portal and tall shuttered windows visible from the street giving little away about the deliberately eclectic atmosphere inside. The conversion, completed in 2021, fitted 57 rooms into a structure whose bones — parquet floors, deep ceiling cornices, broad window reveals framing harbour views — were treated as the starting point rather than an obstacle. The interiors follow Soho House's in-house design team's familiar layering approach: arched velvet headboards in navy and amber set against sage-green panelling, iron-framed beds dressed with striped wool throws, Morris-adjacent printed curtains, and Marshall speakers on dark-stained chests of drawers that suggest a well-travelled collector rather than a decorator. Rooms facing the water catch the light off Barcelona's marina, the harbour visible between a pair of armchairs upholstered in small-scale geometric fabric. On the roof, a long lap pool runs parallel to a bank of candy-striped red-and-white cabanas with the Columbus monument at eye level to one side; at dusk, a second terrace furnished with fringed market umbrellas and rattan seating opens across a panorama that takes in Tibidabo and the Gothic Quarter's roofscape simultaneously.

"Extremely disappointed. Service is a joke. Nonchalant staff, both in front desk and at restaurant. Hotel guests have no special time offerings (gym opens earliest 7am and breakfast at 8). If you are here in a business trip those times are way too late. During the day there’s to many local members in the building. Gym is always full, no matter what time during the day. Same with the co working areas or areas where you are allowed to have a computer. Finding a spot is impossible. Feels like you are at a university instead of a hotel. What’s good is the rooms are beautiful and luxurious. A bit too loud, not really sound proof. Stayed on the 5th floor and could hear the restaurant music very clear at night time. Beds are comfortable and the location is great."

"Great place but why are there women cleaning the men’s locker room? It was quite awkward to come out the shower and encounter two women while my junk is on full display."

"The house is all round fantastic, from the rooms to the club space - bar/restaurant and the rooftop. We were lucky with the weather and spent time on the roof- lovely and tranquil during the day. The food and drinks on the roof and downstairs were all great. The service was friendly and attentive. We felt welcomed at all times. We even lost something in the room at check out and they found it for us which we were so grateful for. The rooms are lovely- good size with a view of the marina. We were also able to walk around Barcelona easily from the house. We look forward to coming back. A wonderful experience- thanks to the team!"

"Loved pretty much everything about Soho House Barca - it's probably my favourite Soho House that I've visited. I kept extending my stay, so stayed in 3 different rooms - my favourite was the Medium Marina room (38), followed by the Small Corner (27). My last room (33) was a suite since it was all they had available - very nice, but I really didn't need the space so it wasn't really worth it. A really nice touch while staying there was that after finishing work, they happened to knock on my door with a cocktail cart, so I treated myself to a glass of wine. My only small complaint is the food on the 5th floor is a bit hit & miss, but there's a great vibe up there and some of the options are good. Would definitely stay here again!"

"Soho House Barcelona provided a delightful escape for us during a midweek stay away from the office. Our arrival in the evening was met with a wonderful dinner, followed by relaxation in the spacious lounge area. However, the following morning presented a different scene. The lounge we enjoyed the night before had transformed into a bustling workspace, making it nearly impossible to find a table without a laptop and customers focused on their work. Large tables were often occupied by single individuals with their computers. This was a consistent situation throughout our stay, leading us to spend our time outside the hotel, where we could enjoy quiet conversations without the office atmosphere. I would love to return, but I’d prefer to avoid weekdays when the space feels more like a workplace."
