PB hotel design editorial

Ricardo Bofill spent decades reshaping Catalan architecture with his taste for geometric grandeur and warm Mediterranean materiality, and it is his spirit that Charlotte Flynn and the Ennismore in-house design team summoned when conceiving The Hoxton, Poblenou. Opened in 2022 as the largest property in the Hoxton portfolio at 240 rooms, the hotel sits within a purpose-built tower in Barcelona's formerly industrial Poblenou district, its facade a crisp grid of dark glass and white cladding that signals the neighbourhood's ongoing transformation from factory quarter to creative hub. Inside, the Bofill influence arrives through terracotta-tiled floors, arched doorways that give even standard rooms a certain ceremony, and a palette of sage, ochre, and warm timber that feels genuinely local rather than assembled from a mood board. The woven wall hangings above each headboard — abstract, sun-baked in colour, somewhere between Catalan folk textile and mid-century tapestry — anchor the rooms in place. The rooftop is where everything coheres: a checkerboard-tiled pool edged with terrazzo cocktail tables and draped daybeds surveys a panorama stretching from Montjuïc to the sea, while a covered bar hung with terracotta pendants gives the feel of a shaded Barcelona courtyard lifted fifteen floors into the sky. It is a property that earns its scale by knowing exactly where it is.

"The hotel was amazing. I will be staying here again when I come back to Barcelona for work. It was beautifully clean, had a great vibe, staff were friendly and the entire experience felt easy. Highly recommend for both business and pleasure."

"The stay was nice but I wouldn’t recommend it based on the fact that they charge you a 50 euro deposit for each night and I stayed 3 nights (a total of 150€) and they haven’t credited me the deposit back, and every time I call they put me on hold, avoid talking about it and tell me to email with no response, so basically if you stay here just anticipate not getting the deposit back, and add that to the amount of your stay.. which is honestly unacceptable considering how costly a night here already is and if it’s a deposit you can expect that back."

"Very nice and cool hotel. Room was quite comfy for a family with 2 big beds (one a sofa bed but quite big and comfy) breakfast buffet is nice and they are good with kids, we got a small gift with goodies for the kids when checked in. They also remembered my birthday with small chocolate gift. Hotel rooftop looked nice, but it was still early for for that. Overall very good experience, only downside was the very late arrival of housekeeping for tidying the room (at 4pm when we were back from waslking in the city all day) this happened both days."

"Great location away from the noise and business of the tourist areas while still well within walking distance of Sagrada Familia, the Gothic and El Born neighborhoods. The Metro is a block away and the Glories mall across the street. Rooms are so so. While comfortable and clean and modern, the lack of ANY closet space or drawers and even a small desk is palpable. You get one small rod with hangars and that's it. The Windows on the larger rooms are sideways, and you basically see nothing more than a periscope view. Not worth it. Noise could be a problem as we felt it a couple of times from the restaurant across the entrance driveway."

"Great experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful with local dining/walking suggestions & arranging transportation for a tour & to the port. Very comfortable, clean room. Breakfast buffet, tho a little pricey, was very good, and dining area just outside main area was lovely. Amazing views from rooftop bar/pool. Wish we could've stayed longer to enjoy that more."
