PB hotel design editorial

Formentera's smallest and least developed Balearic island has long resisted the kind of hospitality that announces itself too loudly, which makes Teranka, set directly on the pine-fringed sands of Playa des Arenals, a property that earns its place by knowing exactly when to stop. The four-storey whitewashed building steps back from the beach in stacked terraces, its vernacular Mediterranean massing softened by a ground-floor pergola of rough-hewn timber and reed — a covered lounge that dissolves into the sand rather than declaring a threshold between hotel and shore. Rattan sail shades stretched across the rooftop bar repeat this logic of filtered light over enclosure, framing views across the pine canopy toward open water. Inside, the interiors sustain the same discipline: limewashed walls in raw cream, walnut platform beds dressed in washed linen, cane-fronted cabinetry, and hand-thrown ceramic vessels in sage green arranged on open shelving. Bedrooms carry sea-glass headboards upholstered in textured aqua linen alongside paired pendant lights on curved iron hooks — details that reference the Balearic artisan tradition without tipping into pastiche. The pool terrace, enclosed by a split-reed screen and shaded by mature stone pines, uses local sandstone paving and teak sun loungers to reinforce an atmosphere closer to a private finca than a managed resort. Nothing here raises its voice.

"It is so hard to know where to begin. So will start with Check in -….. That was an ok experience. Nothing over the top but ok and the room wasn’t ready at 2 pm but by 4pm no one bothered to tell us that it was ready. we had to come back and check as they said they would come to the pool. 5 meters away. But that is totally on point for the stay. Front desk / concierge …… totally disinterred and basically incompetent. When you ask for a dinner reservation they do not say you can or can’t get in They just choose not to follow up with you or the restaurant When you ask for a Taxi they don’t bother and just say none around. When you call yourself a taxi comes. When you ask for a towel or a beach chair and water for the beach. They act as if you have asked them the impossible. Gloria was the best at making you feel like you shouldn’t approach the desk and ask a question. She was the Rudest lady to ever work in hospitality. But eventually I asked her to book me a restaurant for my last night. I asked at 730am and she wrote it on a scrappy paper. At 4pm when I heard nothing I went to the restaurant myself to check on my reservation. Blow me over …..they knew nothing about it but kindly squeezed us in on night of the Eclipse. Forget asking for the hotel car or taxi that is like asking the impossible. Roof top bar…..awful experience I went up for a glass of wine while waiting for my partner before dinner. I asked for a white wine and was given a wine list and was harassed into purchasing a bottle for my stay. I said just a glass please. The the RUDE somelloer approached and tried again to push me into a bottle as it’s more economical. I said just a glass please. Finally I got one and when I asked for the bill I was charged 29’EURO. Nearly fell off my chair. We never went back. Breakfast ….. Don’t dare ask for a cofffee. You get dirty looks from all the staff. But the food was lovely on the Buffett and fruit was excellent. Lift you game in that restaurant. I didn’t dare go for dinner. Poolside. Still Water charged at 8 Euro. BUT free in the room and the gym and breakfast: But when you need to drink at the pool you can’t get water when you need it most . Housekeeping. Well that’s another issue . Water and soft drinks not replaced daily you need to find someone in the corridor to replace waters and drinks. They delivered a welcome bottle on our last night with a note welcoming us. How stupid is that. The rooms are clean but not very small and poor storage. Checkout…. We had a $100 credit with our booking for food and beverages . Toon checkout they knew nothing of it and had to call management and it was clearly stated on my confirmation. I really loved Formentera as a destination. I don’t think I world recommend this hotel due to the crap service. Except for the Italian gentleman at the desk everyone else needs to learn customer service and how to smile.or go to another industry.. I have never mentioned the cost of water or hotels as I really like staying in gorgeous places and really love writing great reviews. I would think twice about booking this hotel way overpriced for the crap service There has to be better service than this in Forementera. The property is nice but will date fast."

"Teranka is beautifully located and the surroundings perfect. Although rooms are fairly small - it’s nice decorated and well maintained. A beautiful spot and worth a visit. However, there are quite a few things that should be improved: - being pretty isolated and with difficulty in getting taxis - the staff needs to be more flexible on the hotel van. They ask 210 EUR to take you to a restaurant located 15 min away!!! - so you need a rental car! - a can of 0,5 L water is almost 9 EURs by the pool (although water is free in reception)!!! Most luxury hotels offer complementary still water to guests by the pool! - 2 of 4 days we got the wrong order for breakfast… Main point: Staff… I had to argue for very long with staff when checking out. They wanted to charge me more than 1000 EUR for things I had already paid. When they finally realized the mistake they didn’t even apologize!!! Had to get my travel agent and the hotel management involved. During our stay - it seemed like front office staff was not there to service us or help guests. - and we experienced “rolling eyes” from them several times… To management - feel free to reach out if you need further explanation."

"Teranka was a lovely, peaceful retreat compared to busier Balearic spots. It feels wonderfully secluded, yet it's still easy to reach anywhere by car or taxi. We loved the relaxing boho-chic vibes and our clean, beautifully decorated room complete with an amazing waterfall shower. For the most part, the staff was warm and helpful throughout our stay. However, as a group of 9, we did notice a few service hiccups. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed during our check-in, and dinner service was quite slow between courses. Given the higher price point of this property, we hoped for slightly smoother efficiency with larger parties. Overall, it’s still a fantastic spot for a relaxing escape to Formentera—just keep potential service pacing in mind if you're traveling with a larger group!"
