PB hotel design editorial

That facade of diamond-shaped solar shading panels — cascading from saturated yellow through sage green and duck-egg blue toward the pool deck below — announces W Ibiza's intentions before you've set foot inside. Opened in 2019 on the quieter northeastern shore at Santa Eulalia, the property was designed by the Barcelona-based architecture studio Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, whose signature white-rendered geometry provides the structural canvas, while the interiors were handed to the Madrid designer Jaime Hayon, a figure whose work consistently hovers between fine art and functional object-making. Hayon's 162 rooms carry that sensibility through every layer: ombré curtains that dissolve from white to cerulean, circular platform beds set against hand-applied splatter-pattern wallcoverings, open grid shelving dressed with blown-glass vessels in acid greens and tangerines, fringed drum side tables that seem lifted from one of his gallery installations. The Acapulco-style rocking chairs and pom-pom-trimmed throws give the rooms a cheerful, handcraft warmth that prevents the colour saturation from tipping into theme-park territory. Outside, a tightly clipped hedge wall frames the main pool terrace, rows of teal daybeds and white-canopied cabanas arranged with a precision that contrasts pleasingly with Hayon's looser interior exuberance. The beach restaurant shelters beneath a sculptural woven ceiling — billowing raffia formed into dune-like folds — with cobalt glassware catching the light off Santa Eulalia bay.

"I stayed in a Premium Room, which was spacious and featured one of the most unique room layouts I’ve experienced. The bed configuration (see attached photos) created what almost felt like a private nook, making it a comfortable place to relax and watch television. One feature I wish the room had was a dedicated drying rack or towel bar for wet swimsuits instead of having to drape everything over the glass partition. Breakfast is à la carte rather than a buffet. While the quality of the food was good, I found the selection somewhat limited compared to other luxury hotels in Ibiza. The biggest disappointment during my stay was the service. Shortly after arriving, I ordered a pizza, signed the receipt, and the order was completely forgotten. After reminding the staff, it still took over an hour before the replacement arrived. On another occasion, a hamburger with fries took approximately 45 minutes to be served. On my final day, I reserved a daybed for €120, not including any additional food or beverages. The daybed included two bottles of water and a glass of champagne, yet I had to remind the staff to bring the water, and the daybed itself had not even been prepared when I arrived. At this price point, I expected it to be fully set up and for the included amenities to be provided proactively rather than having to ask. Individually these issues may seem minor, but together they reflected a level of service that consistently fell below expectations for a luxury property. Housekeeping was also inconsistent. I did not request service every day, but on the days I did, the room often didn’t feel thoroughly cleaned. I noticed strands of my hair still on the floor, and the bed lacked the crisp presentation that I typically expect from a hotel in this category. There were also a few maintenance issues during my stay. The in-room safe stopped working and engineering spent approximately 30 minutes repairing it while I waited. Additionally, the large flush button on the toilet was inoperable and also required maintenance. On the positive side, the rooftop pool was a highlight of the property and offered a great atmosphere. The gym was modern, well-equipped, and had excellent air conditioning. I also appreciated the stylish design throughout the hotel and found the Premium Room to be both spacious and comfortable. Overall, W Ibiza has many strengths, particularly its design, rooftop pool, gym, and room layout. However, the repeated service delays, inconsistent housekeeping, and multiple maintenance issues prevented the experience from living up to the level I expect from a W Hotel. With more attentive service and better attention to detail, this could be an excellent property."

"The W hotel Ibiza was the perfect place to stay for me and my family. Whilst the hotel doesn’t specifically cater for children the staff and facilities create a lovely environment for me, my wife and daughter to have a really relaxing and enjoyable stay. The breakfast was superb every morning and the service there was fantastic without ever feeling too formal or stuffy. The rooms were really comfortable and large balconies a nice addition. The pool, sun beds and parasols were fantastic. There were other children around too and I felt happy enough that any adults not wanting to be around young children could escape to the adults only pool on the rooftop. Location superb to walk to restaurants, beach and only 20mins by taxi to the airport. Thank you W hotel Ibiza, we loved it and will be back!"

"Beautiful hotel; perfect location and with great amenities / restaurants etc either in house or very near by. Quiet peaceful with great pool area and rooftop pool bar; would go back but had a few things I didn’t like - the bedroom is open plan with the washing area in the sitting area - which I dislike. The bed was very comfortable but it was like a settee bed with arms around it so you had to shuffle in and out of the bottom of the bed every time you got in or out of the bed - awful - and felt like the bed was too enclosed and no fresh air getting around it - big dislike. Staff were very friendly and helpful but table service at breakfast was not good - no self serve option and food took too long to come out of the kitchen. We all agreed that portion sizes were too small (and we are normally sensible healthy eaters). Plenty of staff around both at reception and restaurant but sadly not responsive enough. Overall we enjoyed our stay but feel some improvements needed for us to return."

"After staying at several hotels in Ibiza, we have to congratulate the W Hotel for being the best overall. It offers outstanding value for money, exceptional service, beautiful rooms, excellent food and beverages, and consistently high standards of customer care. Nothing was ever too much trouble for the team. The main pool and rooftop pool are both fantastic facilities, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending time there. The location is amazing too—perfect for exploring the local area on foot. A special thank you to the wonderful Front Office Manager, who was approachable, understanding, and incredibly helpful in resolving a small issue with the room we had booked. Their professionalism and genuine care made a real difference to our stay. We had a fantastic experience and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the W Hotel Ibiza to anyone looking for a luxurious, welcoming, and well-located place to stay. We look forward to returning."

"This was our first stay at the W Ibiza, having previously enjoyed stays at the W Barcelona and W Edinburgh, and it certainly lived up to the W brand experience. On arrival, my family and I were warmly welcomed by two members of the reception team who were friendly, professional, and took the time to explain the hotel facilities. I had booked two rooms, both of which were very comfortable, well furnished, and a good size. The rooms are positioned in a V-shaped layout, so privacy can be slightly limited, although the electronically controlled canopies are a great addition and help provide extra privacy when required. We booked bed and breakfast, which I would highly recommend. The breakfast experience was excellent — you choose from a menu and everything is freshly prepared and served to your table. There is also the option of complimentary champagne if you want to start the day in true Ibiza style! The rooftop pool and bar looked fantastic, although we spent most of our time at the main pools, which had excellent sunbeds and brilliant poolside service. The daytime DJ created a great atmosphere (apart from Sundays), giving the hotel that relaxed Ibiza vibe without being overwhelming. The ferry to Ibiza Old Town is only around a 5-minute walk away and is definitely worth visiting. A special mention to Sebastian from the management team, who went out of his way to chat with us, check how our holiday was going, and make us feel welcome — a real asset to the W team. Also, Dubi at breakfast, who looked after us most mornings with a warm welcome and excellent service. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend the W Ibiza. A great hotel, fantastic service, and a perfect base to enjoy the island."
