PB hotel design editorial

That facade of diamond-shaped solar shading panels — cascading from saturated yellow through sage green and duck-egg blue toward the pool deck below — announces W Ibiza's intentions before you've set foot inside. Opened in 2019 on the quieter northeastern shore at Santa Eulalia, the property was designed by the Barcelona-based architecture studio Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, whose signature white-rendered geometry provides the structural canvas, while the interiors were handed to the Madrid designer Jaime Hayon, a figure whose work consistently hovers between fine art and functional object-making. Hayon's 162 rooms carry that sensibility through every layer: ombré curtains that dissolve from white to cerulean, circular platform beds set against hand-applied splatter-pattern wallcoverings, open grid shelving dressed with blown-glass vessels in acid greens and tangerines, fringed drum side tables that seem lifted from one of his gallery installations. The Acapulco-style rocking chairs and pom-pom-trimmed throws give the rooms a cheerful, handcraft warmth that prevents the colour saturation from tipping into theme-park territory. Outside, a tightly clipped hedge wall frames the main pool terrace, rows of teal daybeds and white-canopied cabanas arranged with a precision that contrasts pleasingly with Hayon's looser interior exuberance. The beach restaurant shelters beneath a sculptural woven ceiling — billowing raffia formed into dune-like folds — with cobalt glassware catching the light off Santa Eulalia bay.

"tl;dr we had a nice time, but this is not a 5 star hotel. THE GOOD: The location of the hotel is excellent. We got upgraded to a suite for being Marriott Gold, which was very spacious. The adults only rooftop pool is a great spot with a lovely view. The a la carte breakfast was good and we ate at Yellow Tail on the beach which was good and had live music (though a bit overpriced for the area). The concierge and GM were very nice and attentive. THE NOT SO GOOD: The showers in both the room and spa are really bad. Old, dirty, mildewy. Really off putting when the rest of the room is really nice. And just a bunch of smaller things that add up- the phone in our room never worked, our key cards never worked on the entryways from the beach to the hotel- things like that. The service across the board is bad. Now just slow, but at some point every single day we would place an order (room service, at the pool, at breakfast) that would never be delivered to us. And finally what annoyed me the most- while I loved the rooftop pool, one day I was wearing a light blue bathing suit and looked down and realized the pool seating was all stained yellow (sunblock? chemicals? idk) and had stained my bathing suit. When I called (at 4pm) to ask about laundry service, I was told it was closed. I tried to get it laundered at home, but no luck, so now I am out a brand new bathing suit. Overall, we had a nice time, but I would not say this is a 5 star hotel and I didn't think the experience was worth the price that we paid."

"We have just come back from three nights at the W Hotel Ibiza for a girls trip. From the moment we stepped into the hotel, the service was incredible. A special mention to Tabitha at reception who was the most welcoming and efficient at check in. Even when we had a slight issue with our room not being cleaned on time, we mentioned it once to her and we came back to the most wonderfully clean room! Breakfast was delicious and the à la carte options instead of a buffet as expected was a welcome surprise. Another special mention to Sebastian who was always there to help and so cheerful when we stopped for a chat. The pool was also lovely and the access to the beach promenade was great with so many great shops and cafes. Overall so satisfied with our trip and we can’t wait to come back!"

"We have stayed at the W Ibiza every year since it opened and, initially, put many of the issues down to teething problems, hoping the hotel would improve over time. Four years on, it certainly has improved, and there are some genuinely excellent staff, particularly in Guest Relations and Concierge. Unfortunately, the overall experience still feels at the lower end of what you would expect from a five-star hotel. The rooms are mediocre and relatively small, breakfast can feel extremely busy and chaotic, noise remains an issue, and overall the property lacks the sense of luxury, refinement and attention to detail you would expect at this price point and from the W brand. It is a hotel we want to love, which is why we have continued returning, but it still falls short of being a truly five-star experience. I expect this year will be our last."

"We stayed here for 6 days in August and had an absolutely amazing time! We were in room 235, which was fantastic, very clean, great air conditioning, an amazing sea view and, best of all, the biggest and most comfortable bed! The service from every member of staff was exceptional. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, a special mention has to go to the breakfast team who were absolutely brilliant every morning. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in the best position in the resort, right on the beach and in the centre, so you really couldn’t ask for a better location. If I had to mention one negative, it would be that the pool could do with a little update, and sometimes the way the sunbeds are positioned means you have to share parasols. However, there were always plenty of sunbeds available, and we never needed to get up early to reserve one, which was a huge bonus! Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would 100% recommend this hotel. We would definitely come back!"

"Me and my partner stayed at the W hotel in August 26, first impression where amazing and our stay did not disappoint, our first room the air conditioning was not working and Sebastian who works tirelessly and is such a lovely man, got us moved within a couple off hours, the breakfast was amazing, Al a carte all freshly made, special mention to the cook Conchi. The reception staff where always so polite and helpful, special mention to Tabitha and Sofia who where just so lovely, and also Sergio who looked after me when I had a bad night and went over and above, other staff to mention are Adja (reception) Andrea (front office manager) and the lovely Maria (chief concierge) even to the young men who opened the door for you anytime you where leaving and always with a smile. The roof top bar and pool just wow, yeah prices may have been a bit much but that's Ibiza!! Even the bar staff and waitresses worked so hard and it was soooooo warm, (don't know how they do it) They say your staff are only as good as the manager who builds that team and Sebastian your doing a wonderful job, keep being you. Me and my partner also got engaged just after the solar eclipse and the staff showed genuine happiness for us, W Hotel thank you so much for everything and see you next year for the anniversary lol, Tricia and Hugh. room 425 lol"
