PB hotel design editorial

The wrought-iron entrance portal on Calle Montera — its scrollwork dense enough to read as lace from across the street, flanked by lanterns and ceramic-tiled planters in bottle green — signals immediately that Hotel Montera Madrid is working with a building that carries genuine architectural weight. The early twentieth-century Beaux-Arts façade, with its rusticated limestone base and ordered piano nobile windows, sits on one of central Madrid's most storied pedestrian arteries, steps from where Gran Vía begins its westward sweep. The conversion into a Curio Collection by Hilton property preserved the entry hall's black-and-white diamond marble floor and the elaborate ironwork surround, letting the bones of the original structure set the register for what follows inside. The interiors move between two distinct temperatures. Guest rooms keep things composed and warm — linen-textured wall panels, pale oak floors, upholstered headboards outlined in fine gold or dark piping, a recurring palette of cream, warm grey, and deep charcoal that feels calibrated rather than neutral. Arched mirror surrounds and emerald velvet occasional chairs introduce just enough contrast to avoid blandness. The restaurant shifts the mood entirely: petroleum-blue panelling, mustard banquette seating, navy velvet tub chairs with geometric trim, globe pendants in alabaster-toned glass, and a ceiling layered with a painterly cartographic mural that gives the room a particular theatrical energy. The rooftop terrace, dressed in candy-striped scalloped umbrellas and terracotta-pink loose seating, surveys the Madrid skyline with exactly the kind of studied insouciance the city now expects from its better rooftops.

Hotel Montera Madrid, Curio Collection by Hilton Reviews

"As a Diamond Hilton member, I have stayed at many hotels across the US and Europe in the Hilton portfolio. I do believe that Europe may have different qualifications for the star ratings because I have stayed at 3 Curio hotels in Europe and 2 in the US and they all fall within the 4 star category, NOT a 5 star. I will say that the hotel is very aesthetic and clean. However, the rooms are TINY. We were not upgraded even as Diamond and on our honeymoon as we had let them know before getting there and when checking in. The room didn’t even have space to open our suitcases fully to unpack them without putting it on the bed (YUCK)! Additionally, other aspects of the design of the room really take away from the positives. When you walk in, you walk in through the bathroom which is not private from the bedroom. The sink is in the hallway. Also, the shower hook for your towel is on the opposite side of where the door opens meaning you have to get fully out of the shower wet before you can grab your towel, soaking the whole entry hallway. These rooms have no privacy at all and are so tiny. But look pretty and were clean. Second - we stayed Sunday-Tuesday and multiple of the amenity spaces (rooftop bar and terrace) were closed for private events. On Monday, we spent multiple hours at the pool where we were never waited on. Lastly - the location. If your only goal for your location is to be able to access the metro easily, this is great. However, the hotel is nestled between the metro, McDonalds, and Taco Bell. It is on one of the busiest streets of all of Madrid. There is very loud noise, music at all times that kept us up, homeless people, and there is no way to have an uber pick you up or drop off in front of the hotel. You have to walk down this street with all of your luggage. Personally, when I stay at a 5 star hotel, I expect to be able to get picked up and dropped off at the location, as well as not walk out to such chaos and overall grime. The area within a 5 min walking radius of the hotel feels very grungey and I didn’t feel comfortable walking alone as a female. If that doesn’t bother you, then this is a great option. 4 star hotel but 2 stars due to the issues we had and location"

"We had a wonderful time at this hotel. We loved the Angel and Anthony their recommendations for great restaurants and Tapaz Bar. They went above and beyond our expectations. Thanks for amazing days in Madrid ."

"A phenomenal hotel, strong recommendation to stay there! We did four days here and absolutely loved it. Right next door to the McDonalds (which took up their ground floor reception), but once you are in, the 9th floor reception is great. Right there are there dining areas, a lovely outdoor space. The roof top is awesome, great view of Madrid BTW. The rooms are very comfortable. Nice bathroom. Service is great, so friendly. If you’re looking for recommendations, talk to the ground floor concierges. We got two great restaurants recommendations from them. Obviously I can’t say enough positives about this place. Loved it."
