PB hotel design editorial

The wrought-iron entrance portal on Calle Montera — its scrollwork dense enough to read as lace from across the street, flanked by lanterns and ceramic-tiled planters in bottle green — signals immediately that Hotel Montera Madrid is working with a building that carries genuine architectural weight. The early twentieth-century Beaux-Arts façade, with its rusticated limestone base and ordered piano nobile windows, sits on one of central Madrid's most storied pedestrian arteries, steps from where Gran Vía begins its westward sweep. The conversion into a Curio Collection by Hilton property preserved the entry hall's black-and-white diamond marble floor and the elaborate ironwork surround, letting the bones of the original structure set the register for what follows inside. The interiors move between two distinct temperatures. Guest rooms keep things composed and warm — linen-textured wall panels, pale oak floors, upholstered headboards outlined in fine gold or dark piping, a recurring palette of cream, warm grey, and deep charcoal that feels calibrated rather than neutral. Arched mirror surrounds and emerald velvet occasional chairs introduce just enough contrast to avoid blandness. The restaurant shifts the mood entirely: petroleum-blue panelling, mustard banquette seating, navy velvet tub chairs with geometric trim, globe pendants in alabaster-toned glass, and a ceiling layered with a painterly cartographic mural that gives the room a particular theatrical energy. The rooftop terrace, dressed in candy-striped scalloped umbrellas and terracotta-pink loose seating, surveys the Madrid skyline with exactly the kind of studied insouciance the city now expects from its better rooftops.

"Tony was great and the best. Service and accommodation was out of this world. Location was great"

"Hotel Montera Madrid is such a cool little boutique find, tucked into a gorgeous historic building right in the heart of Gran Vía. Heads up though — since the building is historic, they're not allowed to put up signage outside, so it's easy to walk right past it (it's next to a big McDonald's!). The only clue you've found it is the hotel name on the entrance mat. Totally worth the hunt, though. The location is unbeatable — we walked to Puerta del Sol, San Miguel Market, and Plaza Mayor with no trouble at all. Our room looked right out over the busy Gran Vía and all its shopping, but somehow we didn't hear any street noise at night, which was such a nice surprise. As a newer Curio Collection hotel, the rooms feel perfectly updated and modern, with beautiful high ceilings thanks to the historic building. Our room was very clean. They're a bit on the smaller side, but that's pretty typical for European hotels and didn't take away from the experience one bit. Breakfast in their beautifully decorated restaurant was a great start to every day, and evenings on the rooftop terrace with an Aperol Spritz or Tinto de Verano quickly became our favorite part of the trip. Honestly, though, the staff is what made this stay so memorable. Rafa and Costy at the bell desk greeted us every day with a smile and always had great restaurant tips and directions. Jorge, Ramiro, and Barbara at reception took care of everything we needed, and Elizabeth, the concierge, was super helpful too. You just don't find that kind of genuine, all-around hospitality very often. We stayed 3 nights in June 2026, and loved every minute of it. Highly recommend this hotel if you're headed to Madrid!"

"Beautiful hotel located on Gran Via in the heart of Madrid. We kicked off our trip in this hotel. We stayed in a variety of hotels in different cities throughout Spain and this was by far the highlight of the trip. The staff was extremely friendly and cordial throughout our entire stay. The property had beautiful lounges, a solid gym, great restaurant, and beautiful finishes throughout. The dry cleaning service was excellent. Our room had perfectly functioning A/C and had beautiful design. We were extremely pleased with our stay and strongly recommend to anyone considering."

"It's a great small hotel with a luxe-hip kind of vibe, right in the middle of everything. Everybody on the staff was friendly and helpful-- I was there on the day of the Argentina-Spain world cup final and Valeria, their new concierge, was very helpful about best places to watch it. The breakfast and the service was also great."
