PB hotel design editorial

The wrought-iron entrance portal on Calle Montera — its scrollwork dense enough to read as lace from across the street, flanked by lanterns and ceramic-tiled planters in bottle green — signals immediately that Hotel Montera Madrid is working with a building that carries genuine architectural weight. The early twentieth-century Beaux-Arts façade, with its rusticated limestone base and ordered piano nobile windows, sits on one of central Madrid's most storied pedestrian arteries, steps from where Gran Vía begins its westward sweep. The conversion into a Curio Collection by Hilton property preserved the entry hall's black-and-white diamond marble floor and the elaborate ironwork surround, letting the bones of the original structure set the register for what follows inside. The interiors move between two distinct temperatures. Guest rooms keep things composed and warm — linen-textured wall panels, pale oak floors, upholstered headboards outlined in fine gold or dark piping, a recurring palette of cream, warm grey, and deep charcoal that feels calibrated rather than neutral. Arched mirror surrounds and emerald velvet occasional chairs introduce just enough contrast to avoid blandness. The restaurant shifts the mood entirely: petroleum-blue panelling, mustard banquette seating, navy velvet tub chairs with geometric trim, globe pendants in alabaster-toned glass, and a ceiling layered with a painterly cartographic mural that gives the room a particular theatrical energy. The rooftop terrace, dressed in candy-striped scalloped umbrellas and terracotta-pink loose seating, surveys the Madrid skyline with exactly the kind of studied insouciance the city now expects from its better rooftops.

"My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Montera in Madrid and was blown away by the property - location was great BUT mostly by the service. The employees met our every need and far exceeded our expectations. When we first arrived we were greeted by an amazing bellman - Costy - he went out of his way to help us - he even escorted us to the subway and got us on the right train to get to another train station. The front desk staff was so very helpful and anticipated our every need. The concierge was AMAZING. The concierge reached out to us prior to our arrival to ask if we needed anything and then once we arrived the concierge continued to help us and provide amazing suggestions for places to eat and things to do. Cristina Rodriguez, Luna Ruiz, Esther Gomez were amazing but I wanted to give a BIG Shoutout to Alvaro Monreal, Esther and Natalia for their help - they made our stay in Madrid delightful. I also wanted to say the breakfast buffet and waitstaff were amazing"

"We spent one night at this hotel while in transit from New York to Malaga. The location is virtually in the center in the city. The customer service from the staff was exceptional. The reception is on the ninth floor, but the staff moved our bags from the ground floor entrance to our room while we checked in, making the process really easy for us. All of the staff know what they are doing. They also went out of their way and made special efforts to help us. For example, one of the bellmen took our bags and escorted us into the nearby subway to ensure we caught the correct train to the main train station. Made us feel like VIPs. Also recommend the rooftop bar for a late afternoon drink and snack."

"The Monte Hotel is a true gem in the epicenter of Madrid. It is within 10 minutes walking distance to the Royal Palace and the Cathedral. It is also a 15 minute walk to the Prado museum and the Retiro Park. Ideal hotel in the middle of the city. The rooms are exquisitely furbished, even for the most demanding taste. The staff and the service at the hotel were outstanding. The breakfast is top-notch with à la carte items included as well as a buffet option. They have a rooftop bar that is one of the most popular in Madrid. They also have a gym in their facility. We would definitely stay here again the next time we come back to Madrid."

"LOVED our stay here! Right in the middle of a busy part of Madrid, so everything is walkable, and yet somehow heard nothing of the street noise from our room (5th floor). Like, completely silent. Check in was 2pm, so it enabled us to be able to check in immediately after our arrival from the airport, which was so nice after a long flight. Breakfast is great and served until 11, also fantastic when you sleep in. Hotel has a great rooftop bar with fantastic views. Our last night we got back after dinner and they had put cards representing the cities we will be visiting on our trip on the bed with some delicious chocolates, it was so sweet! Such a lovely surprise!!"
