PB hotel design editorial

At the heart of Puerta del Sol, where Madrid's street grid converges on its most historically charged plaza, a mid-century limestone block originally built as a government ministry was transformed into the Madrid EDITION in 2021 by Ian Schrager and architect John Pawson. The exterior courtyard at night tells the whole story of the project's central tension: a Churrigueresque portal — all volcanic stone carving, gilded crest, and crimson lacquered door — is set flush against a rational 1950s facade of gridded limestone bays that could not be less interested in ornament. That collision is entirely deliberate, and the hotel wears it with confidence across its 200 rooms and six floors. Inside, Pawson's characteristic restraint shapes the guest rooms into studies in chalk-white plaster, large-format limestone tile floors, and sculptural headboards whose organic silhouettes borrow from Spanish Baroque foliage without quoting it literally. Faux-fur throws and cream boucle armchairs warm what might otherwise veer toward austerity. The restaurant moves in a completely different register — dark walnut coffered walls laid in a fret pattern, curved saffron-yellow banquettes, marble-top tables, and a single pendant light suspended like a molten moon, a room that channels the drama of a Madrid supper club from a grander era. The rooftop pool deck, teak-clad and planted with olive trees and low Mediterranean shrubs, offers an unexpected quietness above one of Europe's noisiest intersections.

"The hotel that stays in your mind forever. The feedback will not be enough to describe how spectacular, exceptional the hotel it is! Madrid Edition combines breathtaking design and style with most professional and sincere customer service. We have stayed the property for important occasion and stuff went beyond any expectations to make us feel valuable, extraordinary, well taken care of, relaxed and happy. The rooms are very spacious, new, fresh, cleaned and everything worked perfect, not a thing to complaint. The brekafast is another high point of the hotel. A la carte menu is full of options and also with Spanish/Madrid cuisine touch. Our waiter Andres was so attentive and kind in his service. Thanks to his suggestion we tried the best dishes. He was also very kind to bring us small sides of each other dish so we don’t miss anything. We definetely recommend to spend time at the brekafast as it is an unforgettable experience. The hotel have also restaurant Oraya. The atmosphere was so chic, elegant, but at the same time cozy, quite and relaxed. The dishes were unbelievably tasty. Restaurant also offers amazing drinks so worth trying. Our dinner was exceptional thanks to Pablo. Alejandro and his kindness made our evening spectacular. Many thanks to these amazing staff. The hotel has also swimming pool overlooking Madrid city center. The space is very beautiful, well organised. After the stay at Madrid Edition, there are no other hotels for us now. We recommend to stay at this hotel. It was an unforgettable experience and we definetely come back to love it again. Many congratulation to the amazing work of all Madrid Edition staff! On point!"

"The Madrid Edition has an incredible vibe and a location you simply can't beat. It's only a three-minute walk to Puerta del Sol, right across from El Corte Inglés, and surrounded by tons of restaurants, cafés, and shops. As soon as I arrived, I made my way up to the rooftop pool, which is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful spot to relax and soak in the city views. On my first day I also booked a spa treatment, and it was the perfect way to recover after a long day of traveling. That night I ordered room service, which came quickly and was delicous. Every single interaction with the staff has been so pleasant, and the hotel made a very fantastic first impression. My stay so far has been excellent. I've still got a couple more nights here before I head off to my next destination, and I'll be coming back to The Madrid Edition at the end of my trip. Based on everything so far, I'm already counting down to my return."

"The Madrid Edition has an incredible vibe and an unbeatable location. It's just a three-minute walk to Puerta del Sol, directly across from El Corte Inglés, and surrounded by countless restaurants, cafés, and shops. After arriving, I headed straight to the rooftop pool, which is absolutely beautiful and offers a wonderful place to relax and take in the city. I also treated myself to a spa service on my first day, and it was the perfect way to unwind after traveling. That evening, I ordered room service, which arrived promptly and was delicious. "Absolutely amazing experience at the Madrid Edition. From the time we arrived we received wonderful, friendly service from everyone on the staff. Our room was beautiful and well appointed, but it was the staff that really takes this hotel to the next level. Special shout out to Alex and Jesus who assisted with our luggage and were helpful throughout our stay. The entire staff at breakfast was amazing, especially Helene. She gave us some nice recommendations for things to see. We really enjoyed the pool and the staff was also top notch. Pedro and Bentley took great care of us. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the eclipse from the rooftop pool. Ernesto at the concierge desk gave us what was quite possibly the best restaurant recommendation of our entire stay. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. We usually like to try different hotels when we return to a city, but in this case, I wouldn't even consider staying elsewhere."
