PB hotel design editorial

Calle de la Montera cuts straight from Puerta del Sol into the heart of Madrid, and it's along this charged stretch of city that Thompson Madrid was carved from two historic buildings in 2022, their ten floors knitted together by architect Carlos Llansó of Exacorp One S.L. into a single 175-room property. The design brief fell to Madrid-based LYTA Interior Design and Architecture Studio, led by founding partner Penélope Tena, who translated the mid-century instinct for warmth and material honesty into something unmistakably Spanish. Throughout the lobby lounge, European walnut paneling rises in deep, honey-toned planes, copper pendant clusters catch the afternoon light, and a backlit bar wall glows amber between embedded planters — the atmosphere closer to a private members' club than a hotel corridor. Upstairs, the palette shifts toward quieter luxury. Headboards are set against dramatic slabs of Aragón marble — one room shows the stone's dark burgundy veining, another its sweeping graphite-and-white banding — while cognac leather chairs in the BoConcept Imola mold face floor-to-ceiling windows onto Madrid's terracotta roofline. The rooftop infinity pool delivers on that view in full, with the ornate dome of the Edificio Metrópolis anchoring the horizon. A pergola-shaded bar level below keeps the copper and walnut vocabulary alive in the open air, ensuring the design language that LYTA established at street level carries cleanly all the way to the sky.

"Booking through the Chase Edit collection using points is a huge win—you still earn Hyatt points on the stay, which is a great bonus. The booking included a daily breakfast, along with a €100 credit valid at the hotel’s bars, restaurants, or even the minibar. The location is amazing. One block away from grand Via and metro stations. I highly recommend booking a room with a terrace. It's spacious, offers incredible sunset views, and really elevates the stay. Beyond the room, the hotel features a modern design, a great gym, and an excellent housekeeping team. Customer service across the board is exceptionally responsive. The food and drink scene here is top-notch. Breakfast is terrific, and the hotel boasts a fantastic variety of bar spaces—ranging from a cozy basement speakeasy to vibrant rooftop bars. Overall, a terrific property with standout service and design. Highly recommended!"

"Thompson Madrid impressed us once more. We stayed here last year around the same time and noticed a few areas that could have been improved. The hotel has listened to feedback. Breakfast is now a buffet with à la carte options on the side, and it has been moved from street level up to the rooftop, with stunning views over Madrid. The breakfast itself was very good — great taste, nice variation, and freshly baked bread. The rooftop pool bar is also now efficient and consistently good, and it kind of gives a resort feeling within a city hotel. The service was top-notch — everybody at the rooftop pool bar was doing their job to make you feel at home. The pool is a big plus, especially on hot days. We stayed in a King Bed room with a terrace overlooking Plaza del Carmen — a beautiful room with a large balcony. Again, the design of the rooms is so nice — everything just works. The room was very clean, and that cleanliness continued throughout the stay. If you are going to Madrid, this is the hotel you want to stay in."
