PB hotel design editorial

Somewhere in the flat agricultural heartland of Mallorca's Pla region, far from the coastal crowds that have consumed much of the island, a seventeenth-century finca sat largely unchanged for generations before becoming Finca Serena. The conversion preserved the estate's marès limestone walls — that warm, sandy Mallorcan sandstone quarried from the island's bedrock — exactly as found, their rough-hewn texture and sun-bleached pallor carrying the weight of agricultural history into what is now a 29-room hotel. The cobbled forecourt, arched entrance portal, and terracotta ridge tiles all survived intact; what changed was everything behind the facade. Interiors were reimagined in a palette of raw linen, polished concrete floors, and lime-washed plaster, the whitened arches between sleeping and living areas giving each room the atmosphere of a private house rather than a hotel suite. The restaurant makes the conversion's ambition clearest: original stone arches were glazed with steel-framed windows, flooding a succession of dining spaces with garden light while preserving the structural bones of the old agricultural building beneath ornate iron-and-crystal chandeliers. Rattan-backed bistro chairs and linen tablecloths sit against the ancient marès with an ease that suggests long habitation rather than calculated styling. From the pool terrace, the estate's olive groves and vineyards drop away toward the broad plain, the Tramuntana mountains marking the horizon — a view that reminds you how much of Mallorca exists beyond its coastline.

Finca Serena Mallorca Reviews

"We had a fantastic stay at Finca Serena—this is a beautifully designed, adult-only retreat in the middle of Mallorca that delivers on almost every level. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We had booked a terrace suite but were generously upgraded to a one-bedroom villa with a private pool, which completely elevated the experience—an exceptional touch and hugely appreciated. The setting is stunning: lemon trees, vineyards (they produce their own wine), and a lovely walking route around the estate. Being adult-only makes a real difference—it’s incredibly quiet, calm, and ideal if you’re looking to properly switch off. Food across the board was very strong. Breakfast and lunch were consistently excellent, and pool service was efficient and relaxed. The main pool area is beautiful and never felt overcrowded. Facilities are also a big plus: a well-equipped gym, a very good spa with sauna and indoor pool, and daily morning yoga. There’s also bike hire available, although if you’re a serious cyclist, you’re better off arranging rentals externally—companies like VAS can deliver directly to the hotel, and the staff can store bikes securely. Location-wise, it’s about 25–30 minutes from the airport, set inland. It’s quiet and secluded, but that comes with a trade-off: you will need a car. Beaches are 45–60 minutes away, and while there is a nearby town for coffee and casual meals, you’ll likely find yourself driving out for dinner. We found using a local rental company like VIMA straightforward and convenient. There are a couple of limitations worth noting. The hotel does not have an indoor lobby bar, only an outdoor bar area with views. It’s a nice setting, but it does restrict options for a more cosy or atmospheric drink in the evening. The other downside is the dinner offering at the hotel. It’s a fixed menu at around €70 per person—high quality, but quite limiting if you’re staying multiple nights or want something more casual. We enjoyed the meals we had there, but the lack of flexibility meant we chose to eat out several evenings, which became slightly inconvenient. Overall, this is an exceptional hotel if you’re looking for tranquility, privacy, and high-quality facilities in a countryside setting. We would absolutely return."

"Very annoyed that the Hotel, a member of the Small Leading Hotels of the World, has tried to overcharge me £400 for the same suite as I have booked on booking.com. I have complained and they have not had the courtesy to reply and explain. have never experienced this before with SLH."

"Deciding on a last-minute trip to Mallorca for an early-season birthday celebration led me to find Finca Serena, and I'm so glad I did. Everything went perfectly, and the staff made sure I was taken care of every step of the way. The reception team was especially helpful with everything I needed. The room was absolutely beautiful and exactly as I had hoped. On top of it all, you're located in one of the most beautiful locations. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate."
