PB hotel design editorial

Jutting into the crystalline waters of Illetas on Mallorca's southwest coast, a rocky promontory that has defined the site since the hotel's original construction in the 1960s gives Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá its most irreplaceable asset — a position so close to the Mediterranean that the sea is visible from virtually every angle of the property. The building itself is a mid-century modernist block, six floors of terracotta-brick facade with deep timber-framed balconies stepping back in a rhythm that softens what might otherwise read as a hard horizontal mass against the pine-covered hillside. The hotel carries a particular cultural distinction: Joan Miró, who lived and worked on Mallorca for much of his later life, had a personal connection to the property, and works in his unmistakable biomorphic vocabulary still hang in the guest rooms — visible in the images here, framed simply against cream plaster walls. Inside, the rooms combine rojo alicante marble floors with warm honey-toned timber joinery on doors and folding balcony screens, the sea framed through full-height glazing like a painting that changes with the light. The garden terraces descend through stone-walled gardens shaded by mature Aleppo pines and palms to a dark-bottomed lap pool edged in timber decking, white canopied daybeds arranged across manicured lawn toward the water. The beach restaurant keeps its palette deliberately bleached — white-painted shiplap screens, rattan pendant shades, wicker chairs — drawing warmth from the bay view rather than from the interior itself.

"This was the last hotel of our trip and it lived up to expectations. Well designed and spacious rooms. Two uncrowded, cool pools. Access to two small beaches and multiple ladders into the clear, warm sea. We decided to upgrade to a junior suite which was worth it as it included spa access and one day on the luxury sun loungers. The only problem is a shortage of sun loungers due to people hogging them all day whilst they are not using them, however the pool manager always finds a good solution. We also stayed at the Maricel 10mins walk away, and although it is a beautiful historic building with great sea access we think the rooms here are far superior. Forgot to mention the best spa and hydro therapy of our trip!"

"We looked at hotels all over Mallorca and chose Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá because of the reviews and location. It ended up being the best decision we could have made. I hope this review helps anyone deciding between hotels or resorts in Mallorca. This was one of our top choices, and we actually visited some of the other places we had considered. Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá beat every single one of them in every category The staff was friendly from second we got there (let us check in 8 hey Valerie hours early!) til we departed for the airport. The property was even better than the pictures, which is rare. Our room was beautiful, spotless, and cleaned perfectly every day. The staff went above and beyond, and the amenities were great. The free breakfast was amazing too. This was not your average hotel breakfast. It felt like a true 5-star, “whatever you want” breakfast. Everything was fresh, high quality, and made the morning feel easy before heading out for the day. The spa was the best spa we have ever been to. We had a couples massage overlooking the water, and the setting was unreal. The spa itself was gorgeous, and the staff there were fantastic too. The location was perfect. You are right on the water, with three different beach areas, two pools, and full service at all of them. We rented a car, and the hotel was about 10 minutes from Palma and about an hour from Deià. They also have free electric Audi cars you can reserve, plus car service options. Uber was available, and the hotel could also call a taxi whenever we needed one. I still cannot get over the view from our room on the sixth floor. Waking up to the ocean, sailboats moving across the water, the sun hitting the waves, and the sunset views every evening was something I will never forget. The whole hotel has a beautiful design. I feel like I am overhyping it, but the truth is, the hype is real. The pictures we took almost do not look real because the place is that beautiful. We are already looking at booking another Melía hotel, and we may return to this exact hotel in about three months. If you are deciding between hotels in Mallorca, pick this one. It checks every box. They even had the car rental company come directly to the hotel so we did not have to deal with it ourselves. The staff made sure we were taken care of the entire time. For the price, this is the best hotel. Yes, there is Cap Rocat, but it is far from everything (also triple the price). La Residencia is also beautiful, and we went there for dinner, but it is far up in the mountains and the drive was terrifying (Also triple the price depending on what you wanted). Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá gives you the beauty, service, water access, location, and overall experience without feeling isolated. This place truly lived up to the pictures, which hotels often do not. It is very Instagrammable. Everything is green, the pools are beautiful, and even the loungers feel designer. The hotel has a super yacht feel because of the designer behind it. The only bad part of the hotel was the late night room service was a little limited but in reality thats nothing. I hope this review reaches people who want to get the most out of Mallorca and the most for their money. Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá is the best place I have stayed in the entire world, and I have been to 15 countries in the past five years. This would be great for couples and families as there were both there but the hotel is so big; you can have privacy away from people. They do not overbook which is a huge plus; so your privacy and space are respected!"

"Definitely a 5 star experience. Pleasent and helpful staff. Calm atmosphere. Lovely position. Amazing food and drink. Two pools and access to the sea. Only feed back there are four poster beds to reserve at a price around the grounds. Most of the time they are empty and it is a waste of valuable space. Reduce the four posters and increase the beds in shade."

"A truly wonderful hotel with exceptional service from start to finish. The rooms were immaculate, beautifully maintained, and exceptionally comfortable throughout our stay. A special mention goes to the pool and beach team, particularly Yassin. His professionalism, warmth, and genuine hospitality made a lasting impression. He went above and beyond to ensure that my family and I were well taken care of, making our experience even more enjoyable. Team members like Yassin are a true credit to the hotel, and we look forward to returning."
