PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the rocky Costa d'en Blanes peninsula in Calvià, where Mallorcan pine forest meets sheer limestone clifftops above some of the island's clearest water, this site demanded something more than a renovation. The former H10 Punta Negra hotel was razed entirely, and what rose in its place — Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, opened on 1 June 2026 — is a full reconstruction across five buildings and three hectares of cliffside gardens, designed by HKS and Estudio Lamela Arquitectos with BG Arquitectura leading delivery. The aerial view confirms the ambition: low-slung volumes arranged to follow the peninsula's natural contours, each building stepping back from the rock edge through planted terraces that keep the landscape dominant. Laura Gonzalez, the Paris-based designer whose work typically draws on a rich chromatic palette, has pitched her interiors here in a softer key — cream limestone floors laid in herringbone, honey-toned bed platforms, ikat-patterned upholstery in burnt orange and ochre, cane-backed dining chairs, and pendant lanterns in white paper. The effect across the 131 rooms and suites is warm without being heavy, with sliding timber-framed doors drawing each room into its balcony view of pine, palm, and open sea. The restaurant renders the same material logic in a larger frame: a coffered timber ceiling, full-width glazed walls that fold back at sunset, and a calmness of proportion that lets the Bay of Palma do the work.

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca Reviews

"A beautiful property in a setting that is hard to beat. We came as a family of four in August for my mother's 60th birthday and the hotel made the whole stay feel effortless. The views over the sea, the pools and the grounds are lovely, and the rooms are beautiful and quite spacious for the room we stayed in. Justyna and the concierge team, along with the guest relations team, helped us plan for weeks before we arrived to make my mom's birthday trip so special for our family. Since it was a surprise that we were joining her stay on property the team did great work coordinating with me for the surprise and helping plan all the details that went into it! Even more special was how the team helped secure our experience for the evening of the solar eclipse, which turned out to be the best night of the trip. Thank you all for making a special occasion even better. Location 5/5. Right on the water, away from the busier part of the coast, with Portals minutes away, Palma a short drive, and Valldemossa and Deià an easy day out. Atmosphere 5/5. Warm and family oriented, with plenty of families around and an easy holiday feel. Rooms 5/5. A terrace over the pools, a large bathroom, and quiet at night. Value 5/5. The setting, the food and the service made the stay. Cleanliness 5/5. Spotless throughout, rooms and grounds alike. Noise level 5/5. Rooms and hallways were quiet, with the happy sound of families around the pools during the day. Service 5/5. Justyna, the concierge team and guest relations planned ahead with us and delivered on the island. Amenities 5/5. Two pools, direct sea access and swimming coves, spa, tennis, and three good places to eat and drink on property."

"The hotel was not ready to welcome guests. The infrastructure and gardens were still under construction and finishing works. Only one restaurant was opened. The staff in the reception desk was not as expected in a five star hotel. We have been in Mandarin oriental in many places and this one is definitely not the Mandarin level. The rooms were big enough and fancy furnished. The staff at the restaurant and the pool area is excellent."

"Unfortunately, the service at this hotel was very disappointing. There was a visible stain on our table that remained there for more than three days without being cleaned. Today, we booked a boat through the hotel, but unfortunately, the arrangements and communication between the hotel, us, and the boat company were very poorly handled. Everything felt disorganized and unclear, which caused unnecessary confusion and frustration. For a hotel of this standard, What is particularly disappointing is the huge difference in the level of service between this hotel and the Four Seasons. The prices are almost the same, yet the quality of service, attention to detail, organization, and overall guest experience are simply not comparable. When paying this level of price, you naturally expect a certain standard, and unfortunately, the service at the Mandarin fell far below our expectations."

"Our stay at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra was absolutely perfect. Even before we mentioned that I was pregnant, the entire staff treated us wonderfully. Once they found out, their care and attention doubled, making both my husband and me feel incredibly comfortable, safe, and pampered. We want to give a special shout-out to the team members who made our vacation unforgettable: * Diego (the lifeguard): Always extremely kind and attentive. We never ran out of ice cream, water, or fresh towels thanks to him. * Fara, Kiki, Guillermo, Bernardo: They assisted us with exceptional warmth and showed impeccable attention to detail at all times. The rooms are beautifully designed, and the views over the water are absolutely magnificent. Plus, the location is unbeatable, with just a 2-minute walk to the beaches. The culinary experience was also outstanding. Our dinner at Leña was very good; the service was great, and the mini burgers are an absolute must-try! Overall, the food at all the restaurants was phenomenal, always tasting super fresh and delicious. The hotel facilities are a true paradise. The pool is amazing, and the coves (calas) located right below the pool area are stunning. We are already so excited to plan our return for next year. Thank you so much to the whole team for making us feel so well taken care of!"

"We had a truly wonderful stay at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra. The hotel enjoys one of the most beautiful locations on Mallorca, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and direct access to charming secluded coves. The combination of tranquility, elegant design, and spectacular surroundings makes this a very special place. The service is professional, warm, and genuinely attentive from arrival to departure. The rooms are beautifully designed with exceptional attention to detail, and the restaurants, pool areas, and overall facilities are all of the highest standard. Although the hotel is relatively new, it has already established itself as one of Mallorca’s finest luxury resorts. We highly recommend it to both couples and families looking for relaxation, comfort, and a world-class hospitality experience. We are already looking forward to returning."
