PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the rocky Costa d'en Blanes peninsula in Calvià, where Mallorcan pine forest meets sheer limestone clifftops above some of the island's clearest water, this site demanded something more than a renovation. The former H10 Punta Negra hotel was razed entirely, and what rose in its place — Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, opened on 1 June 2026 — is a full reconstruction across five buildings and three hectares of cliffside gardens, designed by HKS and Estudio Lamela Arquitectos with BG Arquitectura leading delivery. The aerial view confirms the ambition: low-slung volumes arranged to follow the peninsula's natural contours, each building stepping back from the rock edge through planted terraces that keep the landscape dominant. Laura Gonzalez, the Paris-based designer whose work typically draws on a rich chromatic palette, has pitched her interiors here in a softer key — cream limestone floors laid in herringbone, honey-toned bed platforms, ikat-patterned upholstery in burnt orange and ochre, cane-backed dining chairs, and pendant lanterns in white paper. The effect across the 131 rooms and suites is warm without being heavy, with sliding timber-framed doors drawing each room into its balcony view of pine, palm, and open sea. The restaurant renders the same material logic in a larger frame: a coffered timber ceiling, full-width glazed walls that fold back at sunset, and a calmness of proportion that lets the Bay of Palma do the work.

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca Reviews

2 reviews

"Just returned from a wonderful 8 days at the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra. What a wonderful hotel. The staff are incredible, a big shout out to Laura, I think that’s how it’s spelt. Anina who served us our dinner each evening, and last but not least the amazing manager Nicole. Who makes the hotel as good as it is."
