PB hotel design editorial

A centuries-old Mallorcan finca set deep in the pine-covered foothills near Sa Pobla, its honey-coloured sandstone walls and clay-tiled roofline barely distinguishable from the agricultural landscape that surrounds it — this is the structural inheritance that The Lodge Mallorca has chosen to work with rather than against. The conversion retained the original farmhouse tower and its arched entrance portal, grafting a series of lower rendered volumes around the historic core to accommodate the property's rooms and a long rectangular pool terrace that steps down into an olive grove, terracotta parasols echoing the rust tones of the surrounding earth. The interiors carry that same commitment to material restraint. Bedrooms in the original building feature exposed timber ceiling beams over pale limewash walls, with rust linen throws and woven jute rugs anchoring a palette drawn entirely from the surrounding landscape — ochre, terracotta, raw linen, and dark-stained oak. Newer room categories shift to a cooler register: sand-toned plaster walls, linen drapes on slender black steel rods, boucle poufs, and oak-veneer cabinetry with dark metal detailing. The restaurant terrace, sheltered beneath a reed-panelled canopy on a slim steel frame, mixes bistro folding chairs with heavier stone-topped communal tables, candlelit at dusk against views that dissolve into the Tramuntana foothills. The effect, across every space, is of a working estate quietly and confidently remade.

"WARNING: We Were Robbed – Avoid This Hotel We strongly advise against staying at this property. It has been repeatedly targeted by thieves over the past two years. During our stay in August, we were the third guests this season to have our room completely ransacked—including the safe being forcibly removed from the wall. The hotel lacks basic security: no surveillance, no patrols, and windows that can be easily opened from the outside. The break-in occurred during dinner hours, when guests are typically away from their rooms. We suspect internal involvement, especially since we were told at check-in that we’d been assigned “the best room.” (same wording used by other guests’ victim of a robbery in this place) Our losses exceeded €30,000. Management was entirely unresponsive, and the staff were inexperienced and ill-equipped to handle such a crisis. We stayed only two nights, and the robbery occurred on the second. While the hotel claims to have insurance, we’ve received no confirmation that our complaint was formally filed. No preventive measures have been implemented to protect future guests. We are now pursuing legal action alongside other victims to ensure accountability and to warn prospective travelers. Do not go!"

"The hotel is set on a gorgeous estate with lavender fields and olive orchards. The rooms are stunning and the beds are a dream for sleep. The staff are very welcoming & helpful. There are walking trails on the hotel grounds as well. The on site restaurant for breakfast is great. I recommend going off site for supper as eating at the hotel every night would become redundant with a limited menu, but the food is delicious."

"This compound is beyond luxurious with relaxing music playing in every location. The staff are incredibly friendly and you don’t have to lift a finger while here. They clean the room 2x a day and drive you in a golf cart wherever you need to go. As for the spa- The massages were the best I’ve ever had in my whole life. The facial was a 5/10. It was more like a face massage and less like a facial. I don’t recommend the facial but highly recommend the massages!"

"We spent 4 nights at the lodge and while it was good, the hotel has improvements to make if it wishes to become a 5 star hotel. Firstly, the staff were great, thank you to Laura the guest experience manager, and Silvia in the restaurant- both are an absolute credit to the hotel. Improvements could be made in the pool service which is close to non-existent. You cannot get any food at the pool, which is fine, but drink service is also poor. Guests were sent to the restaurant for drinks that they didn't have on the small bar. We also tried to book a boat via the hotel and were told transfers to the port (20 mins away) were €182 each way. We got our own taxi a few days later for dinner and it was €25. Not sure if the hotel are trying to keep you there but without a car you do feel somewhat trapped as nothing is nearby and they are not forthcoming with helping with taxis. Finally the gym is outdoors which suits the aesthetic but impossible to use post 9am as it's far too hot. Overall a nice few days, however room for improvement before we'd return."
