PB hotel design editorial
White cubic volumes stepping down toward the turquoise water at Santo Tomàs, on Menorca's southern coast, establish the architectural grammar for Villa Le Blanc, Gran Meliá's adults-only property that brought a new register of Mediterranean refinement to the Balearics when it opened in 2021. The building's four floors present a tiered facade of floor-to-ceiling glazing, warm timber screens, and whitewashed render — a contemporary reinterpretation of vernacular Menorcan forms that keeps its massing low and horizontal against the Tramontana sky. Inside, the interiors navigate the particular tension of making a large resort hotel feel like a privately assembled house. Rooms are finished in bleached oak, honed limestone flooring, and thick white linen, with arched plaster headboard alcoves that carry a quiet echo of local vernacular architecture. Ceiling fans in pale-bladed timber move the air above beds draped in ivory cotton. The dining terraces are where the material language reaches full confidence — rattan pendant clusters suspended from cedar-clad ceilings, teak director's chairs at solid wood tables, rope-wrapped columns grounding outdoor rooms that frame the Mediterranean as a continuous backdrop. Reed-screen ceilings in the arcaded restaurant colonnade filter afternoon light in a way that feels genuinely Balearic rather than borrowed, and the pool terrace, with its teak daybed pergolas and pale stone paving, earns a comparison to the best of Ibiza's design-forward resort generation.

Villa Le Blanc, a Gran Melia Hotel Reviews
"We stayed at this hotel last summer and were impressed from start to finish. The experience exceeded our expectations in every way. What made the biggest impression was the sincere warmth and attentiveness of the entire staff - every interaction felt genuinely welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, offering a wide selection of high-quality options. I would also suggest choosing a room with at least a partial sea view; the added ambiance is absolutely worth it. The pool area is another standout feature, with plenty of space to relax. Regardless of the time of the day, there were always sun loungers with parasols or cabanas available, which made for a wonderfully alm and unhurried atmosphere. On our departure day, despite having already checked out, the hotel kindly allowed us to continue enjoying the facilities and even offered a courtesy room so we cold freshen up before our late flight. The level of care and consideration truly set the hotel apart. All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with exceptional service, comfort and thoughtful attention to every detail."

"We stayed at Villa Le Blanc for a week in October and were blessed with very good weather. The hotel is excellent with wonderful facilities. It has two lovely beaches on the doorstep, so the setting is idyllic. The spa is excellent with lots of different Thai treatments. The food in the various restaurants could be better as the menus were somewhat restricted but that's just a personal view. The breakfast buffet was fabulousand if a version of that was on offer all day it would be perfect."

"We had an overall great stay at Villa Le Blanc. The property’s location is unbeatable. It was right by the beach with easy access to several restaurants just off the property. We really enjoyed spending time by the pool; there were always plenty of chairs available, though we did visit in early October, which is shoulder season. The on-site restaurants were a bit hit or miss, mostly due to service. When we arrived, we had lunch while waiting for our room, but it took about 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The food itself was fine. Nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. We tried every restaurant on the property and found that there’s generally better value and quality in the nearby local spots. We rented a car, which made exploring the island easy. Most of the larger towns were only a 20–30 minute drive away, so the location worked perfectly for us. One issue we did encounter was ants in our room. We reported it to the front desk several times, but the problem persisted. Communication seemed to be a bit lacking on that front, and we eventually gave up trying to have it resolved. Despite that, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful, very family-friendly, and in an ideal spot for exploring Menorca. With a few service improvements, it could easily be a top-tier experience"

"Villa Le Blanc has a fantastic situation on a rocky promontory that juts out into the bay at Sant Tomas. It has marvellous views of the coast, especially at sunset. It takes only a few moments to walk from your room to the beach. The Cavi de Cavallls coastal trail passes the hotel and you can walk as far as you want in either direction. Sant Tomas is a small resort but has several supermarkets and small shops, car hire, bus stop outside the hotel for Cuitadella and Mahon, cash machines and restaurants, including the long established Es Bruc, right on the beach. The hotel has a calm and restful atmosphere. Much of this is due to its inspired design by architect Alvaro Sans. I come from a family of architects, so I particularly appreciated the combination of modern and traditional Mediterranean design elements and materials. I loved how the public spaces merged from the completely outdoor to the interior of the hotel, with gradually increasing shade and shelter from the sun and the wind. This is the antithesis of the all too common sealed, air-conditioned box building. We stayed in a Supreme room with Side Sea View and Terrace from 27/9/2025 until 7/10/2025. It was very, very comfortable. The shower and bath are open plan to the main area but can be separated by muslin curtains. We liked this spacious layout a lot. The bed was really comfortable with wonderful soft sheets and covers. Our terrace caught the morning sun but sitting out was a pleasure whatever time of day. Bottles of drinking water and coffee capsules for the coffee machine were regularly replenished. This is an expensive hotel but it is probably the best value for money we have had, anywhere. The public areas and our room were totally sparkling and spotless. The cleaning staff visited the room twice per day (they get to know when you are eating or away) and towels were changed as often as needed. Bedding was changed every two days. As I said above, the hotel has a calm and restful atmosphere. There were quite a few families with preschool children but we were never disturbed. There are child free zones by the rooftop pool, the spa and one of the garden sun bed areas. At night there was almost total silence. However, one small group of residents had a very loud party, which started at 02:00 on the 6/10/2025. We, and at least one other couple, telephoned reception who sent the night guard and the noise stopped. The service was simply outstanding. As we had an early morning flight we arrived over 3 hours before check in and our room was still being cleaned. The staff could not have been more helpful. After a welcome cool drink we were shown to another room so we could get changed. While we were at the pool and beach our bags were delivered to our own room. I had brought my paddle board in a rucksack wrapped in clingfilm to stop the straps getting caught during baggage handling. The staff had even removed the clingfilm! I cannot give any individual member of staff a special mention as absolutely everyone went out of their way to help, always with a smile. Thank you all! We were half board and dined in the Nivi restaurant, which has great sunset views over the sea to the hills of Majorca. Breakfast was a truly extensive buffet, with both cold and hot food. An absolute treat to start each day. Evening meals were waiter service and the menu contained several local and Mediterranean dishes. The waiters provided great service and always with a smile. We particularly enjoyed the grilled avocado and grilled aubergine starters. Another starter (which I had has a main course as it was so large) that was a truly tasty surprise was the Amberjack fillet with crispy fried egg and potato...delicious. The tenderloin steaks were cooked to perfection. In the afternoon, we enjoyed coffee and amazing cake in the Sao bar terrace above the pool. The main pool has a maximum length of 25m, which is great if you want to put in some serious swimming. It was never busy during our stay. It was thoroughly cleaned every morning. The water temperature while we were there (at the beginning of October) was 19C which was great for active swimming. If that is too cool for you, the sea is literally across the esplanade and was 24C in the mornings and 25C in the afternoons. It would be worthwhile returning to the poolside before 3pm when the staff bring round crushed ice real lemonade. The shallower roof top pool is much warmer, with great views up and down the coast. The spa has a small heated indoor pool with water jets. There is also a sauna and steam room in the spa. You need to book the spa at reception. You get a 1 hour time slot and there is a maximum of 10 guests at a time. We often had it to ourselves. Note you are asked to wear swimming costumes in the spa pool and sauna. One male guest, who we shared with, was wearing nothing more than you would wear at the far end of Binigaus beach. We were most impressed by the very polite but firm way the receptionist asked him to dress and leave. There were comfortable sun loungers and shades all round the pool area and the extensive garden area to the front of the hotel. Towels were freely available in both the pool areas and the spa. Complimentary cartons of fresh drinking water were available at the pools, the spa and the front door. In summary, Villa Le Blanc provided us with the holiday of a lifetime. It is 39 years since we last visited Menorca. We intend to return next year, to Villa Le Blanc."
