PB hotel design editorial

Facing the Cathedral quarter of Seville, where orange trees line the cobblestones and the Giralda tower anchors the skyline, a white neoclassical building with a facade of shell motifs and red canopied balconies has defined this corner of the historic centre since 1930. Hotel Colón, now part of the Gran Meliá collection, was conceived as a grand civic statement — eight floors of ornamental plasterwork, Ionic pilasters, and elaborately framed windows that carry the authority of Sevillian regionalist architecture at its most self-assured. The rooftop, visible in the images, adds a limestone-decked pool terrace with glass balustrades and a timber pergola structure, the Torre Sevilla just legible on the horizon as a reminder of how emphatically the city's skyline has shifted beneath this unchanged crown. Inside, two design registers coexist. The restaurant works a mid-century brasserie vocabulary — sage-green ceramic floor tiles, walnut-panelled walls divided by brass-framed mirror sections, dark velvet tub chairs around marble-topped brass pedestals, Thonet bentwood alongside more upholstered seating in a mix that feels genuinely layered rather than curated. Guest rooms split between a quieter palette of white upholstered headboards, gold-leaf panels, and black swing-arm sconces, and bolder treatments where deep crimson walls meet dark-green panelled wainscoting and painted ceilings dense with tropical birds — an unexpected flourish that lifts the room far above the conventional grand-hotel standard.

"We have just comeback from ten lovely nights at this beautiful hotel. It’s hard to know where to start in writing a review. People will go with varying expectations and requirements of a branded five star hotel but this is a hotel where the staff work very hard to make sure that they are all met. First the location is great - good for walking around this beautiful city - most places 15 minutes walk away. Checking in was very good - we were even able to access our room early - the reception team are lovely - professional, helpful and really want your stay to be perfect. They were brilliant - a very big thank you. Our room on the sixth floor was not the largest but very comfortable, good storage and everything you need to make you feel at home - the light from the balcony doors and views make up for this! It was also so quiet and comfortable - slept very well indeed. The whole hotel is impeccable- the housekeeping team were great and if you want it - turn down service is a nice luxury! Breakfast is a very good experience - plenty of choice from the extensive buffet plus a menu of cooked dishes, additional juices and cocktails to choose from! Service at breakfast was also extremely good, especially María who mainly looked after us so well. If you go down around 9:30 on a Sunday it will be busy (a couple of people were complaining) but the staff managed it all very well. The bonus is breakfast is 7am to 12noon so a big window to aim at! We had drinks in the lounge a couple of times and agin very good. The door staff and concierge were helpful and professional - booking us a cab to get back to the airport and helping us with our bags. The team here are fantastic - all professional, competent and with a purpose to put the guest first. We were sad to leave this grand hotel and hope to visit again. Thank you for a perfect stay."

"We had a truly wonderful stay here in room 605. All the staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived and Oscar and Pablo were particularly helpful to us throughout our stay. Our room was compact but comfortable with a small balcony overlooking the rooftops. Loved the heated rooftop pool as well. Breakfast was amazing and the cocktails were great. Nothing to criticise (other than perhaps the slightly overpowering air freshener!) A wonderful stay."

"This was a simply lovely hotel. The first thing you notice is the lovely smell when you come in! The reception staff were very friendly and we were greeted with a chilled glass of cava - perfect start. We loved our room with the painted ceiling and door - it was comfortable and clean with a good shower and nice linens/towels. Breakfast was excellent and anything hot cooked to order. It was a shame the tapas restaurant was closed however the helpful concierge recommended several excellent restaurants. The spa seemed a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the hotel. Despite the very variable weather we had a lovely stay in Seville and would highly recommend the hotel. Many thanks."
