PB hotel design editorial

Two interconnected seventeenth-century palaces in Seville's Alfalfa quarter, their whitewashed facades trimmed in ochre yellow and their cobbled forecourt shaded by clipped ficus trees, give Hospes Las Casas del Rey de Baeza a structural identity that no amount of contemporary hospitality design could manufacture from scratch. The conversion brought together a pair of aristocratic townhouses whose street presence — iron-barred windows, tiled cornices, the quiet authority of a private plaza — survives entirely intact, the hotel's sign the only concession to its current purpose. Inside, the Hospes design team worked with the grain of the buildings rather than against them, preserving exposed timber ceiling beams painted in sage and slate and laying hydraulic encaustic tiles underfoot in patterns that belong to the Andalusian vernacular. Guest rooms carry floral-printed headboards in arched forms that echo Moorish geometry, striped armchairs in warm ochre and indigo, and hand-painted ceramic lamp bases — an interior language that feels assembled rather than specified. The restaurant opens onto a glazed garden room where stone columns frame banana palms and herringbone zellige tiles in deep green accent the walls, the whole composition sitting somewhere between a colonial conservatory and a Sevillian patio. Above the rooftops, a slim terrace pool surveys a low horizon of terracotta tiles and whitewashed chimney stacks, the bell towers of the old city rising at the edges — a view that makes the building's age feel like an advantage rather than a constraint.

"Sorry Christina for taking so long to write this review, I’m not a great review writer but I wanted to praise your hotel and hospitality. As a couple we were here in January through to February for 4 weeks and absolutely loved staying here. You, Martha, Carlos and all the staff were so accommodating to our needs, making sure we were well looked after. Your hotel has a lovely family feel, small enough to have atmosphere but large enough to go un- noticed if need be. We had a beautiful corner room with dual aspect doors, comfortable bed, twin basin bathroom, warm and cosy as the weather wasn’t what we had expected. Lots of rain and cold, we had hoped for at least a bit of warmth for our winter break but our room was so warm and inviting we just enjoyed our time regardless. We loved the easy walking from your hotel to all of the sights in Seville and never used taxis. The pool area was fantastic, we managed an hour when the sun decided to come out, but we would have loved to use it in warmer months. Our 4 weeks became home from home and we really appreciated your kind hospitality, we had a fabulous time staying with you and you never know, we may be back? Thank you so much"

"Fantastic hotel, great service and great location for walking around seville. Temp was 25-29 degrees and sunny. Couldn't have asked for more - even had a lift to Jerez airport from a member of staff !! Note - it's a 1 hour taxi ride from Jerez with Jet2 - better to fly to the main Seville airport."

"This 41-room boutique hotel in Seville's historic quarter was perfect for our family vacation. We loved the restored courtyards, spacious rooms, and a rooftop pool with sunset views. But the staff is what sets it apart as they were so helpful and accommodating. Central location, relaxing and luxurious atmosphere. Worth every euro."
