PB hotel design editorial

At the apex of Valencia's Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where the city's grandest Beaux-Arts facades converge around one of Spain's most ceremonial civic squares, an early twentieth-century corner building carries one of the neighbourhood's most elaborate crowns: a zinc-scaled dome ringed with figural sculpture, rising above six floors of cream stucco, Corinthian pilasters, and wrought-iron balconettes. Palacio Santa Clara Autograph Collection was carved from this ornate shell, preserving the dome as the literal centrepiece of a rooftop terrace where a hexagonal-tiled plunge pool sits in its shadow — one of the more quietly theatrical juxtapositions in Spanish hospitality. The interiors work a confident seam between the building's Modernista bones and a collector's sensibility that skews toward the Belle Époque and early Art Deco. Guest rooms are dressed in damask wallcoverings and warm walnut millwork, with arched antiqued-mirror headboards that amplify the period atmosphere without tipping into pastiche; walls carry dense salon-style arrangements of fashion and decorative arts prints drawn from the early twentieth century. The rooftop bar pulls the building's circular geometry inward — a timber barrel-vaulted ceiling curves overhead while hand-painted toile murals wrap the curved walls behind rattan bar stools and a Morris-patterned counter fascia. Throughout, the palette moves between ochre velvet, olive, and teal, grounding the historicist references in something warmer and more personal than mere restoration.

"Such a unique and beautiful hotel. Favorite hotel on a recent trip to Europe. This place reminds me as if I were in a movie. What made it so special was: -Incredible interior design. Old style, but modern and fresh at the same time. Beautiful tile work in the shower and unique touches all throughout the hotel. -Location: Central to everything in Valencia. Much within walking distance. -Service: friendly and with a smile. -Prices: Fair. The only improvements I would suggest are to expand the breakfast buffet a bit and to be vigilant of insects. I saw a few flies flying around the buffet. Other than that, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider this hotel again if going to Valencia."

"We had such a wonderful time here. We arrived late and starving, Gemma at the front desk recommended a couple options for us and saved us from getting to hangry status. She was amazing. The rooms are super cute, with a retro vibe. Great atmosphere. Breakfast was also great, made even better by AMAZING service from Geyser. By the second day he knew our coffee order and delivered it promptly :) The whole hotel is a vibe, the rooftop pool is fantastic for the hot Valencia summers, but the staff really help make our stay fabulous."

"Had a great 4 night stay here, almost perfect. The location is fantastic. Right in the heart of the city near the old town and all attractions. The architecture of the hotel and all the soft furnishings are wonderful. Breakfast was lovely although not a huge choice so 4 nights was enough, complimentary fizz. Our room wasn’t brilliant. We had the deluxe city view and were put in a room right next to the lifts. In addition the shower control was very stiff to the point that we had to ask someone to come to the room to turn it off and it was never fixed properly until the last day. Also the bathroom was basically in the room, no screen or door and with all the mirrors you needed to be comfortable being observed in the shower at the sink etc no matter where your room mate was! This was fine with us but some may not like it and my preference would always be to have a separate bathroom. Lovely toiletries and coffee machine etc. Rooftop pool was lovely, only 4 loungers but plenty of space for a few more so I don’t know why they don’t get the most from the area. We hired bikes from the hotel which was really convenient and service was excellent. I would return but would make sure I had the separate bathroom."
