PB hotel design editorial

Scattered through the scrub forest above Yala's boulder-strewn coastline, the twenty-eight structures of Wild Coast Tented Lodge were designed to disappear. Nomadic Resorts, led by Olav Bruin with Freddie Catlow, Inma Cantero, Oana Tudose, and Julian Klaus Trummer, arranged the camp in the outline of a leopard's paw print, a formal decision that only makes sense from altitude. From the ground, the white arched Cocoon tents read as outcrops of smooth stone, their scalloped canvas forms echoing the granite boulders that punctuate the site. The main pavilions take a different approach entirely: great domes clad in reclaimed teak shingles, their broad arched openings framing the pool and the tree canopy beyond, their interiors lined with a lattice of sustainable bamboo that filters afternoon light into something warm and amber. The bamboo chandelier above the bar, suspended in clustered vertical tubes, won the UNESCO Prix Versailles for World's Best Restaurant Design in 2018. Bo Reudler Studio furnished the Cocoon interiors with the sensibility of a well-traveled colonial study transported into the jungle: four-poster beds draped in sheer muslin, leather campaign chairs, Persian-style rugs in deep indigo laid over warm timber floors. Circular porthole windows cut into the curved walls frame views of the surrounding forest at eye level, reinforcing the sense of looking out from within a natural shell. The effect is intimate without feeling confined, the domed ceiling pulling upward while the furnishings hold the room close.

"This hotel is absolutely incredible. From start to finish the staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make it a really special experience. It’s so peaceful and you really feel like you’re in the middle of the wildlife. The rooms are very unique and bed very comfortable. The food and cocktails were superb. It’s worth staying here just for the safari experience alone - our driver and guide were such a great duo and they knew the park so well, keeping away from the crowds of jeeps and giving us a really personal tour where we were lucky enough to see lots of leopards. 10/10, hope very much to return one day."

"Wow! What a great place!!!!! Everything about this place is perfect! Rooms are so nice. They upgraded us to a tent with private pool. Everything you could possibly think of was in the room. The main area is so beautiful. The pool attached to the bar is perfect. We could enjoy a great cocktail and the girls would swim and play. The kids club is also like we've never seen before. The people working there did a great job and our kids really enjoyed it. The food was soooo good. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner, high tea, snacks during the safari of sundown cocktails, it all was just perfect. And then the people. All of the where great. Our own butler was so attentive. He even made sure we had a snack box for in the car when we left and had a long drive ahead. And after we left we found out the girls left their things they made at the kids club. Within 5 minutes we received a picture so we still have the memory. They really do everything to make it a great experience. It is expensive, but so worth the money!"

"I don’t have the words to describe the incredible experience we had at Wild Coast but I will try… We had a lodge with a pool, the rooms are lovely and clean and decorated beautifully and in keeping. The room has everything you need plus an included mini bar. Housekeeping do an excellent job of coordinating when you’re at breakfast or on safari to ensure that the room is made up. The food is truly exceptional, all meals are à la carte and plenty of choice. I assumed that the menu would stay the same for the duration of our stay but changed every night. The safari was incredible, out of the three safaris we had two safaris were private. We had the same guide throughout and he made it a really personal experience and tailored the tour to what we wanted to see. Finally, the staff, from housekeeping, bartenders, servers, guides to the reception staff their attention to detail is spot on. They are relaxed and attentive, they cannot do enough to ensure your stay is special. Thank you so much to every member of staff who ensured that we will remember our time here for a lifetime, we cannot thank you enough. At the end of the stay, we were asked what could be better and even on reflection we cannot think of a single thing that would have made our stay be there. Truly 5 star luxury."

"Solo Female Traveller | April 2026 Where do I even begin… from start to finish, I felt completely taken care of. After a last-minute change to my travel plans, I reached out late the night before to request an earlier check-in an entire day ahead of my original booking. Despite the short notice, the team couldn’t have been more accommodating, which immediately set the tone for what was to come. From the moment I arrived at the lodge, I was welcomed with such genuine warmth and ease. My curator, Hasindu, greeted me with kindness and professionalism, taking the time to ensure I felt comfortable, informed, and completely at home. What truly stood out was the level of thought and attention to detail. I had celebrated my birthday the day before arriving and hadn’t mentioned it to anyone yet somehow, the team surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake and a private dinner on the beach that evening. It was such an unexpected and heartfelt gesture, and one I’ll never forget. Every single member of staff played a part in making my stay so special. From the restaurant team especially Damith, who took such great care of me to housekeeping, the rangers, and the safari guides… the consistency in service, kindness, and attention to detail was exceptional. You don’t just provide a service here you create moments, and those moments turn into lasting memories. As a solo female traveller, feeling safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for is everything and this experience exceeded all expectations. The entire team is an absolute credit to the hotel. Your hard work, dedication, and passion for delivering outstanding service truly shines through. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my stay and already can’t wait to return. All in all book the stay, and let yourself experience something truly memorable."
