PB hotel design editorial

Flamands Beach on St. Barths' northwestern shore — quieter and longer than the celebrity-crowded strips of St. Jean — has been home to Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France since the property's founding in 1991, when it established the template for discreet French Caribbean luxury that the island has since exported to the world. LVMH acquired the hotel in 2010 and folded it into the Cheval Blanc collection alongside Courchevel and the Maldives, a move that brought considerable investment without erasing what made the place work: its low-slung Creole cottages scattered through tropical gardens, their white-painted timber cathedral ceilings rising above rooms where bleached tile floors and upholstered headboards in pale linen keep the atmosphere closer to a well-edited private residence than a resort hotel. Forty-one units spread across the property in a configuration that maintains genuine privacy between them. Two distinct design registers coexist across the property, and the images show both clearly. The older cottage rooms carry that characteristic vaulted ceiling geometry — exposed white timber trusses, louvered shutters, Louis XVI-style dressing chairs — while more recently refreshed accommodations introduce a warmer, more layered palette: ikat cushions in indigo and saffron, rattan armchairs with bamboo frames, geometric kilim-style rugs, and abstract canvases in purple and gold mounted against limed-oak wall panels. The beach restaurant extends this relaxed sensibility through sand floors, woven seagrass chairs, trestle tables in dark-stained teak, and a ceiling of woven reed fitted with hand-woven rattan pendant lights.

"This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The service is beyond compare. The staff could not be more welcoming and friendly. The hotel is a work of art. Beautifully designed and meticulously taken care of. Cheval Blanc occupies a little slice of heaven with beautiful views of both the sunrises and sunsets. Food and wine are what you would expect, if not greater, from a Michelin Star hotel. Thank you to everyone at Cheval Blanc for making this trip so special for my wife and I."

"We have been staying at Le Maison for last 14 years and it is always a delight but this year I had the distinct pleasure of staying there twice in 2026(February with my daughter and then in March with my husband!) And it was the best stay EVER at Cheval Blanc! We stayed in a Beach Suite and we are spoiled for life! Luxurious suite with ample living space including sofa, chair desk, and one of our suites had a dining table and 4 chairs. There is beautiful balcony with lounge chairs and an infinity pool overlook the beach and ocean! Absolutely perfect!! Every aspect of the suite exudes quiet luxury synonymous with Cheval Blanc. For us, the most memorable part of our stay is the service be at the restaurants or the beach or valet or concierge or any aspect of our stay. And the service is best exemplified by the butler team which are a complimentary team supporting the guests of the beach suite. It is generally 3-4 people who are available what felt like 24/7 during our stay! From making reservations(restaurants, spa, taxi, boat, departure, medicine etc) to taking care of unpacking and packing. They start each day with a good morning message that outlines reservation reminders for the day which was so helpful!! They were seamlessly together and are extremely responsive. We felt so spoiled by all of them. We literally cannot imagine now staying anywhere else in the hotel that does not offer The Butler Team! Thank you to both butler teams especially Camilla who had to deal with some particularly difficult issues. Incredible stays!!! A special shoutout also to breakfast and lunch teams at Le Cabana especially Thomas, Mamadou and Jan. After the first day, we never had to repeat our order for coffee or eggs. More importantly, they greeted us and each guest with a smile a joke. It made for such a relaxed atmosphere. Frankly, they remembered my order a month later when I came back the second time. Kudos!!"

"Beautiful hotel on a gorgeous beach. Rooms are very comfortable if you get the right one. We had problems getting the actual room we booked. Were given an “upgrade” to a room with zero privacy where the patio was literally part of the hotel’s restaurant. Were first told that the ocean view room we booked was unavailable. When we insisted, hotel ultimately did move us to the right room but it was 3-4 hours after check in and too dark to enjoy the view. Front desk couldn’t address the issue without escalating to management, which took a long time to resolve. The service on the beach was excellent and the setting is amazing. Food isn’t bad but not what you would expect for Cheval Blanc. Mostly mediocre, both at lunch and breakfast. We didn’t have dinner. Overall, a good hotel if you avoid the service hiccups. But given the brand and the $5k/night cost, one should expect much better."
