PB hotel design editorial

The volcanic basalt walls rising from the infinity pool terrace are not ruins — they are new construction, deliberately built to carry the weight of St. Kitts's plantation past into a contemporary resort landscape. That tension between colonial memory and modern comfort defines the Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour, which opened in 2017 as the anchor property of the Christophe Harbour marina development on the island's southeast peninsula. The resort's 126 rooms and suites are distributed across low-rise pavilions that step down toward Banana Bay beneath the brooding profile of Timothy Hill, their slate-hipped roofs and dark timber structural frames drawing from the agrarian vernacular of Kittitian estate architecture rather than reaching for generic Caribbean luxury. Inside, the design shifts registers — white-painted shiplap panelling, warm oak bed frames, ribbed nightstands, and oversized dome table lamps give the rooms the unhurried atmosphere of a well-appointed Caribbean great house, with floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolving the boundary between bedroom and private pool terrace. The restaurant space captured in the images uses the same dry-stacked volcanic stone for its interior walls, terracotta floor tiles, a wood-fired oven, and wishbone chairs at concrete-topped communal tables — a material palette that ties the dining room directly to the island's geology. The overall composition, sprawling but purposefully restrained, keeps the mountain and the sea as the dominant elements rather than competing with them.

"Pretty disappointing to be honest. We were here 2 years ago and it was phenomenal, unfortunately it has really fallen off. During our first trip kids under 5 ate for free, this was a great perk and a significant reason why we returned. At the time of booking this was still their policy, however when we arrived at our first meal the kids meals were included. I asked if this was a mistake the waitress informed me that there was no mistake and that the policy changed about a month ago. I took this to the front desk and told them that it would have been nice for Hyatt to reach out and inform their guests of the policy change. I told them that we should be held with the same policy as the time of booking. They pretty much didn't care and said there's nothing they could do. Although I know it wasn't an intentional bait and switch it sure felt like it. There's virtually no quality assessment at the entire resort. Zero checklist for house keeping, floors not even swept at a beach resort that's charging close to $2000 a night. In the room the screen door was broken, ac was broken (had to keep it on low or it sounded like a helicopter was going to land). There was mold in the bathroom. Just overall far from perfect. I went to the gym, they are missing pedal straps on the bikes, steam room was actually dangerously hot and there was no soap in any of the outdoor showers. I filled out the survey and was met with a generic template response with zero specifics from their "director of rooms." Just a total lack of caring about customer satisfaction. I thought this was going to be a recurring family vacation with my family after our first trip, but after the second I doubt we will ever go back. If they would have made even the smallest effort at all the rectify the experience I probably wouldnt have filled this out, but they left me feeling like the experience we had doesn't matter and that's pretty upsetting."

"This is a wonderful resort! It is so beautiful, and even at 90+% capacity it never felt crowded. The pools are so large and there were always chairs available. It was unlike other hotels where everyone saves chats at 7 am! The globalist breakfast benefit is wonderful, with access to a great Buffett, and the staff and service are great! We had two different rooms and they were both lovely. We will definitely return!"

"Look -- it's not terrible, but it is not a luxury property, which was clear from the second we arrived. We had been at the Four Seasons Nevis and decided to add on a couple of nights at the Park Hyatt because why not. None of this is make or break, but it was a bad first impression: When we arrived to check in, there were two big containers of ice water, but no cups. I took my kids to the nearby restroom while my husband checked us in, and it smelled terrible -- we immediately noticed what looked like a clogged or unflushed toilet that must have been left like that for a bit. We then went to the gift shop to kill time and it was basically a small, disheveled walk-in closet with one worker who didn't look up from her phone. Not a great start! We then went to the pool to get lunch -- food was average at best, and service very slow. Then we went to our suite. It was...fine. Definitely not luxury, not even close, but it was clean. The person who checked us in was friendly, otherwise the vibe from the staff was general disinterest. Some pros: We enjoyed the gym and the spa, which weren't busy when we were. Also never had to worry about finding a seat at the pool. Our kids, both under 9, really enjoyed the family pool, which is big and clean and has a mini "beach." Dinner at Fisherman's Village was decent and service was much better than at the other on-property restaurants. The adults-only pool had beautiful views. We booked this on points, so we weren't too upset, but I can't imagine having paid $2k a night for this property. Part of it might be a branding thing -- we have stayed at other Park Hyatts before and this just isn't at that level. Anyway, two nights was def enough and we won't be going back."

"If you’re staying for free on points….then maybe stay here. If you’re paying anything close to a normal rate, buyer beware. The beach is unusable due to seaweed. The front desk is dishonest, the concierge is lazy, and housekeeping is barely able to clean the room before turn down service. The view of Nevis is spectacular. The rest is forgettable and that’s probably the nicest thing I can say."
