PB hotel design editorial

High on the southern flank of the Valais Alps, where Montana's pine forests thin toward the open plateau of Crans-Montana, a steeply pitched triangular roofline cuts against the snowline with the geometric confidence of 1970s Swiss resort architecture. The Crans Ambassador was conceived in that tradition — a terraced, balconied block whose stepped profile echoes the slope behind it, the facade's rhythm of warm timber-screened balconies visible in the exterior image as amber accents against white snow and steel-grey glazing. The base level opens into a full curtain-wall of dark-framed glass, anchoring the building in a more contemporary register while the upper floors carry the chalet-derived massing that defines the resort's broader skyline. Inside, the interiors resolve the gap between alpine vernacular and modern Swiss restraint with considerable ease. Guestrooms are finished in dark-stained timber wall panels, cream upholstered headboards, and tartan-weave cushions and curtains — plaid used as a texture rather than a motif, grounding rooms without tipping into pastiche. The restaurant takes the building's most dramatic gesture: floor-to-ceiling glazing across an entire elevation, framing the Rhône Valley and the peaks beyond through a composition of pale oak slatted booth seating whose vertical fins create intimate enclosures without interrupting the panorama. The indoor pool holds that same logic — still water mirroring a wall of Alpine light, loungers arranged toward the glass as though the view itself were the primary amenity.

"We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at The Crans Ambassador hotel - a beautiful boutique hotel in a prominent location in Crans Montana. We had booked an Alpina Prestige room which was wonderful. The bedroom was spacious & light, the bathroom was a good size (including a bath) and the bed was very comfortable - the bedding was all natural duck down & feather. The large balcony overlooking the mountains was also very nice. The breakfast buffet was very good and we also had dinner in the hotel twice - once at La Muna (a Japanese & Peruvian restaurant) which was truly excellent and once in the Brasserie Lounge which was also very good. The hotel is in a very good location - and right next to a ski lift. The hotel also has its own ski shop for easy & efficient access to skis, boots and other clothing etc. The town of Crans Montana is quote large and spread out and seems to be split into two sections - it is about a 25 minute walk from one section to the other. The hotel is also on quite a steep hill (although there is a public escalator very close by from the ground level) and the hotel also has a complimentary shuttle bus service which runs from 8am to 8pm. The spa at the hotel was also very impressive - I used the pool most days - there is also a large Hammam steam room which was the best steam room I have ever used. It is also to be noted that the staff were all absolutely brilliant - friendly, efficient and very helpful. This hotel is owned by the Michel Reybier Hospitality Group - he is a self-made entrepreneur who clearly knows how to run hotels! The hotel is elegant and stylish but not pompous in any way. It is also a member of the "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" group. Thank you!"
