PB hotel design editorial

Geneva's oldest grand hotel, the building on Quai des Bergues dates to 1834, making the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues one of the few Swiss palace hotels whose neoclassical facade was conceived as a civic statement rather than a commercial one — its symmetrical bays and pedimented central pavilion, visible across the Rhône in the images here, were designed to address the water rather than the street. The property's 2012 renovation by Pierre-Yves Rochon brought 130 rooms and suites into a coherent decorative language that honours the building's French Empire heritage without embalming it: toile de Jouy wallpapers and gilt-framed engravings sit alongside upholstered headboards in warm taupe, while certain suites layer a glass-topped brass coffee table with sculpted serpentine legs against Louis XVI-style bergère chairs and dark geometric rugs — a combination that keeps the rooms feeling inhabited rather than museological. The restaurant interiors show Rochon's hand most clearly: bleached boiserie panelling, a tiered crystal chandelier of Venetian scale, and powder-blue leather dining chairs pushed against white-clothed tables introduce just enough chromatic tension to prevent the room from feeling purely ceremonial. Contemporary canvases in cobalt punctuate the warm oak walls with the confidence of a private collection. Upstairs, a rooftop spa cut beneath angled skylights in grey-veined stone and mosaic tile delivers something the original architects could not have imagined — a swimming pool suspended, quietly, above the Rhône.

Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva Reviews

"Coming to the Four Seasons Geneva both as a couple and with my family has been a special vacation for us for several summers now. The service I have received here has been the best in the world (I don’t say that lightly) and with the recent room renovation, we have already booked a return for next summer. The reason I’m writing this review is to share the incredibly good news of the recent arrival of Food & Beverage Director, Sebastian Boudin. How they were able to steal this star from the George V and the FS Hong Kong 3* Caprice, I do not know. To say that everything about Food & Beverage, already long a strong suit of the Four Seasons Geneva, has been elevated by Sebastian’s arrival cannot be overstated. He cares so deeply, has the relationships and knowledge, such that each meal is a rare delight and your joy is the joy of the team. Go once and return again and again for the incredible Japanese, French, and Italian cuisine. You are in the best hands with Sebastian and the Four Seasons Geneva family. Till next summer and with true gratitude! The Hartmans"

"A true five star experience over and over again at FS Geneve. We were always greeted by name by all front of the house staff and they are all super kind and attentive. Kenza was amazing and going above and beyond to make us feel welcomed on both check in occasions. We stayed only for a day on two occasions and whenever we are in Geneve this is our stop always. Concierge were super helpful and kind and always organize best drivers. Breakfast staff are all amazing as well as food options and drinks. Cant wait to return"

"The hotel is well located in the city center. The room we booked (superior room/king size bed for 2 nights) was not very pleasant for a hotel of this standard. As usual with Four seasons the staff is supposed to make you feel special and this was not really the case this time. For example, as we returned a bottle of champagne as we don't drink alcohol, we were offered to tiny chocolate tarts of the size an amuse bouche. With respect to food, there is also room for improvement here. The Italian restaurant is a one Michelin star restaurant and the setting is very nice. That being said, you can't charge 40 francs for 3 small asparagus as a starter. This is not acceptable. We also went to the bar the following day and ordered a ceasar salad. A huge amount of salad but unfortunately only a handful of slices of chicken. All the above may be seen as details, but they are not when you pay CHF 1600/night. On a more positive note, the breakfast is outstanding."
