PB hotel design editorial

Since 1872, the cream-coloured Second Empire facade on Quai du Mont-Blanc has anchored Geneva's lakefront in a way that no amount of subsequent development along that shoreline has managed to dislodge. Hotel d'Angleterre sits within a five-storey mansard-roofed building whose iron balustrades, pedimented windows, and clipped topiary cones give it the bearing of a private Parisian hôtel particulier rather than a commercial establishment — an impression the 45-room scale does nothing to undermine. Percy Shelley drafted lines of Frankenstein nearby; the hotel's guest history runs from European aristocracy through Cold War diplomats to the artists whose work now hangs in the suites, including a Warhol Coca-Cola print visible in the images. The interiors layer periods without apology — one suite deploys a heavily gilded Rococo headboard against dark chocolate walls hung with striped silk draperies, while another pairs a tufted button-back headboard and brass multi-arm chandelier with a geometric carpet in charcoal and cream, the mirrored brass dresser grounding it firmly in a more restrained register. The restaurant extends the Lac Léman panorama — the Jet d'Eau and snow-capped Alps filling floor-to-ceiling windows behind leather-buttoned dining chairs — while the Churchill Bar retreats entirely inward: mahogany panelling, Chesterfield wing chairs in cognac leather, leopard-print cushions, and brass picture lights creating an atmosphere closer to a London gentlemen's club than to anything the Swiss lakefront might otherwise suggest.

About

"My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights while in Geneva. The room was beautiful and the location is perfect. Across the street from the lake with wonderful views and an easy walk to the shopping areas. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and lunch and it was superb. The aspect of the hotel that impressed us the most was the service. The staff was impeccable, providing excellent service and making us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in the lobby. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly."

"There’s something magical about waking up to the soft shimmer of Lake Geneva just beyond your balcony — and Hotel d’Angleterre gave us exactly that kind of unforgettable stay. We absolutely loved our Lake View Suite, which felt both elegant and wonderfully spacious. Having the extra bathroom was such a thoughtful luxury, especially for a three-night stay. Each morning and evening, we found ourselves drawn to the balcony, lingering over the peaceful lake views and crisp April air — just cool enough for a light jacket, but otherwise perfectly pleasant. The location couldn’t have been more convenient. A short stroll across the street brings you right to the lakefront, and within ten minutes you’re surrounded by charming shops, excellent restaurants, and fascinating museums. It made exploring Geneva effortless and enjoyable. Breakfast at Windows Restaurant was cozy and refined, with a lovely spread to start the day. Dinner there was equally impressive — sumptuous dishes paired with an excellent wine selection. One of the highlights of our stay was celebrating a birthday at the hotel. The team thoughtfully arranged a beautiful and tasteful dessert surprise that made the evening feel truly special. Service throughout our stay was warm and polished, and before we knew it, our three nights had flown by far too quickly. Hotel d’Angleterre delivered elegance, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality — we would happily return."

"What a lovely property in an ideal location. But the best part is the service you get. The staff here anticipate your every need. Greeted as we walked to the entrance, bags immediately handled, everyone welcomed you inside. We were offered a glass of champagne at check in, while we waited for our room to be available. We were disappointed that they didn’t have an upgrade available for us, however, the room was lovely, crystal chandelier and beautiful art work. Not a great view. However, the bathroom was well appointed, and the housekeeping staff did an outstanding job, gave us plenty of towels, and took care to neatly arrange our sink area toiletries. The bed was very comfortable, and the robes were sumptuous! Francois made reservations for us to have lunch at a popular local bistro, which was excellent. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious, with great service. We really enjoyed the Leopard Bar, too. Very cool atmosphere and this Detroit native was loving the R&B music they were playing that night! Sadly, we only stayed there two nights. They offered to bring us breakfast at 5:30am so we could have a bite before we departed, and there was no additional charge for room service! This blew us away. Would love to return!"
