PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Rue du Puits-Saint-Pierre in Geneva's Vieille Ville, a seventeenth-century patrician house that once served as an armoury for the city's ruling council has become one of the most persuasive arguments for adaptive heritage in Swiss hospitality. Hotel Les Armures is set within stone walls that predate the hotel by nearly four centuries, their dressed limestone façade carrying the Genevan cantonal flag and little else by way of modern intervention — the building's age doing all the work from the street. Inside, the 32 rooms navigate the difficult passage between historic fabric and contemporary comfort with considerable intelligence. Exposed ceiling beams and patches of original stonework left visible within the plasterwork share space with upholstered headboards in pale greige linen, aged-timber cladding on feature walls, and warm recessed lighting that draws the eye toward texture rather than finish. The effect is closer to a well-loved private house than a managed hotel product. The restaurant, one of Geneva's most enduring, deepens the atmosphere further: red-and-white gingham tablecloths on heavy wood tables, traditional Swiss ladder-back chairs, vintage skis pinned to lime-washed walls, and overhead beams darkened by decades of use. Fondue and raclette served here carry the easy authority of a room that has never needed to convince anyone of its authenticity — it simply is.

"We had a fantastic stay at Hôtel Les Armures, from our room to the service, staff, and food. We loved our suite as it was very well designed with wood, well equipped, and very functional. The service and housekeeping were seamless and excellent. The staff, especially at the reception, were very helpful and knowledgeable, recommending great walks around the city. The breakfast was good, but the coffee was outstanding—one of the very best we had during our long trip. The lovely lady helping with breakfast was awesome and very welcoming. The location is perfect, close to everything. Highly recommend!"

"How lucky were we???? Instead of booking one of the large grand hotels near or on the lake front, I had an intuition to go with this hotel in the center of the old town of Geneva. No one that I know had ever stayed here. It was a most splendid choice! Never have I been so pleased and pleasantly surprised with Hotel Les Armures. First of all the staff is top drawer! From the front desk, the waiters at the Michelin rated restaurant, the housekeeping staff, to the breakfast room staff are extraordinary! I must begin by saying that a very kind hearted front desk manager, Adama, went above and beyond last night to help my husband locate and find his IPad that he had inadvertently put down while walking last night around midnight. Yes! This was between 12 and 1am! Adama literally saved our trip! Many thanks to him! Many thanks to the cheerful front desk staff for answering all kinds of questions and making suggestions for us. The restaurant was fantastic! We had a lovely dinner there our first night. Reservations ahead are a must..as it is deservedly very popular with locals as well as tourists and hotel guests. We ordered what the waiter suggested and we were each thrilled with our choices. We both had a glass of the local Geneva Rosè and it was perfect! Our room was a delight! We opted for a large king in a corner room on the 3rd floor. It was definitely WOW! Our views were wonderful. Our bed and linens were beautiful and very comfortable. We had a dressing/closet are that had so much space. The bathroom is one that I would love to replicate at home! The colors scheme and materials were elegant and smart yet keeping with the historical atmosphere. While, here in Geneva, they were experiencing a terrible heat wave. Yet, the hotel and especially our room was cool and refreshing after being outside in the hot sun all day! Yay for AirConditioning!!! Be sure and opt for including the delicious and filling breakfast served in their nicely decorated breakfast room or in the comfort of your own room at no extra charge. The location cannot be any better! The magnificent cathedral is at most 1 block away. If I could give 10 stars in every category I would!"

"The hotel was an amazing part of the old city. It was rather difficult to get to, because the directions to go and get through the retractable bollards in the old city are not on the Hilton website. They are on the hotels private website. We did end up having to drive around for about a half an hour and make a couple of calls to the hotel before we got directions that actually got us into the old city. Once we got there, the accommodations were wonderful, the staff was polite and professional, and helpful, and the restaurant was fantastic. I would absolutely stay there again."

"Hôtel Les Armures was a wonderful place to stay in Geneva. Our room was excellent, with a very cool design that highlighted the age and character of the historic building while still offering modern amenities, comfort, and a high standard of cleanliness. The location in the heart of the Old Town was also fantastic. It was an easy walk to the lake and convenient for getting around the city, though travelers should be prepared for some hills and stairs in the surrounding area. The only downside was that on a few occasions, the towels had an odd odor, almost as if they had been handled by someone with a strong cheese smell on their hands. Aside from that, everything about the stay was very enjoyable. Overall, this is a beautiful, character-filled hotel in an excellent location, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Geneva’s historic center."

"The hotel is very comfortable and has a great location. The staff seem very happy to assist with requests. This is not an over the top style of hotel, but one that provides a quiet retreat from a busy day in Geneva."
