PB hotel design editorial

At dusk, when the Bernese Oberland peaks fade to silhouette and the valley below fills with the blue-violet light captured in these images, the illuminated mass of Park Gstaad announces itself against the snow with the particular confidence of a grand alpine hotel that has always known exactly what it is. Established in 1882 and substantially rebuilt and expanded over subsequent decades, the property sits above the village in a position that commands the full sweep of the surrounding mountains — its Bernese chalet massing, articulated with steeply pitched rooflines and timber-framed fenestration, deliberately continuous with the vernacular of its neighbors rather than set apart from them. Inside, the hotel navigates the perennial alpine tension between heritage warmth and contemporary restraint with considerable skill. The public rooms retain their traditional character — coffered timber ceilings, gridded wood-framed windows, candlelit arrangements on low tables, the atmosphere closer to an aristocratic chalet than a conventional hotel lobby. Guest rooms move in a more modern direction: pale larch paneling lines the walls, upholstered seating runs to wool-mix greys and soft tobacco leathers, and raw cross-section timber rounds serve as occasional tables, grounding the palette in the forest rather than the showroom. The spa pool, finished in violet-tinted mosaic tile beneath slatted timber ceiling panels glowing with recessed amber light, brings the same material intelligence to its deepest level — a space that feels subterranean and serene rather than merely functional.

About

Park Gstaad is situated right in the heart of Gstaad, close to the famous town Promenade. It consists of 83 rooms and 11 suites, of which “My Gstaad Chalet” is the largest suite facility of the Swiss Alps, a 400m² penthouse suite over two floors. The interior design, a warm chalet style with a modern finish, reflects the authentic Swiss charm of its surroundings. The hotel proposes several restaurants and four bars: “Avenue Montagne” comes under the direction of Executive Chef Severin Kammer, who delivers indulgent and creative menus, combining traditional and contemporary recipes. “Chubut Food & Fire” serves delicately seasoned meats, deliciously fragrant spices and newly thought textures under the concept of Food & Fire, prepared by Chef Lucas Bertorello. Nestled in the hotel’s gardens, “Chalet Waldhuus” offers delicious local specialties in Swiss rustic mountain atmosphere. “Caveau” is where delicious wine and cheese tastings take place. “Cigar Lounge” is the place to sit back, relax and savour cigars and exclusive cognacs. The hotel bar offers beers, wines and cocktails as well as the finest sushi. Newly established “Avenue Montagne Lounge” is the perfect setting for enjoying the panoramic views of the south-facing terrace. The 1,000m² spa provides pampering and tranquillity with an array of rejuvenating treatments, indoor and outdoor pool, gym, saunas, hammam, bath, Swissline and Seed to Skin products. Park Gstaad is also home to its very own indoor golf simulator. The Park Gstaad provides capacities for private events of any kind – be it hiring the entire hotel or one of its five dedicated event spaces.

"We had a wonderful time. Everything was great. The hotel is the best I have ever experienced. Certainly coming back to it. We were in between hotels and we choose yours because it had a neat and clean feel to it. We were fortunate and your hotel added to Gstaad experience in the best way."
