PB hotel design editorial

Stepped into the hillside above Paradiso on Lake Lugano's northern shore, a cascade of white rendered volumes with deep-set balconies frames one of the most deliberately composed lake panoramas in Swiss hospitality. The View Lugano, which opened in 2012, was designed by the Milanese architect Marco Costanzi with interiors by the same studio, the building's terraced massing calibrated so that nearly every room captures the full sweep of the Ceresio basin and the Monte San Salvatore beyond. From the exterior at dusk, the glazed lower floors — housing the restaurant and bar — glow against the forested slope like a lantern, the horizontal banding of the facade echoing the louvered timber screens that organize the interiors behind. Those screens are the defining interior gesture: floor-to-ceiling walnut slatted partitions divide sleeping from living areas while allowing light and the lake view to move through the space uninterrupted. Wide-plank oak floors, cove-lit ceiling recesses, and low platform beds in white linen establish a register closer to a well-appointed private residence than a conventional hotel room. The restaurant carries the same warmth — teak decking underfoot, a sculpted wave ceiling in white plaster, round tables in walnut set with Murano glassware — while the outdoor terrace, shaded by a retractable louvered pergola, positions Flos globe lanterns among director's chairs to catch the full afternoon light off the water.

"Spent 2 nights at The View Lugano after 4 nights on the Italy side of Lake Como and it was a great way to end our lake trip! It was an easy drive (we had a private car transfer), about 55 minutes, from Menaggio where we'd previously been staying. The hotel lives up to its name; it really does have a great view of the lake/Lugano because it's set up high on the mountain (but still walkable) giving a lovely perspective. All the rooms seemingly have a great view too, which was so nice after staying at 2 hotels on the Italy side where we didn't get rooms actually facing Lake Como. It did require a 30ish min walk or Uber to get into the main town area of Lugano, so definitely keep that in mind, but if you don't mind, then the view is worth the slightly further away location. It was easy to get an Uber though, so no issues there. The service was great; the hotel seemed quite empty when we were there (early May) so staff were attentive and we felt like we barely saw other guests (including at breakfast/dinner!). They were helpful providing Uber/map info telling us how to get around, and plenty of chocolates were provided. Room itself was great; incredible view, nice chocolatey welcome amenity provided. Interesting design with a sort of "open bathroom" (toilet had its own water closet) but the bathtub/shower/sinks are essentially in the same room as the bed, so, while it's ok for a couple, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this to a group of friends traveling together or if traveling with adult children etc etc. Concierge was very responsive via email ahead of time in helping answer my questions and plan private car transfers, also provided restaurant recs. Hotel food was good--not excellent, but good. I'd recommend going out for dinner elsewhere and sticking to the hotel for the complimentary breakfast (nice buffet spread; also not the best I've ever had, but not bad, and they cooked eggs to order). We checked out the spa/pool area but didn't book any actual treatments. The pool was so-so, wanted it to be warmer but was thankful there was one (it was indoors). Unfortunately although it's facing the lake, most of the view is blocked by another building so you don't get a great view from the pool. I wish there was an outdoor hot tub option or something along those lines. Locker room was quite small/minimal. Overall, a really nice stay and great use of Hilton/SLH points/free night certs. Would gladly stay here again if I were to return to Lugano, though I'd also may opt to stay closer into Lugano, especially if we were traveling with our baby/kids."

"We have been to Lugano quite a few times and this is by far the best hotel and experience sofar. from the moment we booked there was communication, on arrival there was a very friendly helpfull staff to welcome us. Our breakfast staff was also extremly nice and service minded. reason im writting this is because this is not always the case on Swiss hotels. location , view, pool, spa, room was also top notch absolutly a the best hotel in the area"

"Loved the hotel and the service! Smaller sized (SLH member) yet the View was amazing, even though in February, the staff from front desk to restaurant to spa was very accommodating. Giulia Giacommo, and really everyone at breakfast, - fantastic service. I am biased to say the best spa person was Milena, - knowledgeable, professional and exceptional service going beyond extra miles! I hope to be back at warmer times, thank you!!"
