PB hotel design editorial

Positioned on the upper slopes of Brunnmattgasse with the Matterhorn framed directly in its sightlines, the BEAUSiTE Zermatt carries the bones of a classic Belle Époque grand hotel — the cream-rendered facade, the stacked balconies, the mansard roofline — while its interiors have been thoroughly reimagined for a contemporary audience without abandoning the warmth that drew alpinists here a century ago. The renovation, completed in recent years, introduced an interior language anchored in terracotta, burnt sienna, and caramel — herringbone oak floors, sculptural carved headboards, globe-cluster brass ceiling fittings, and deep-pile jute rugs that give each room the atmosphere of a considered private apartment rather than a managed hotel floor. The restaurant sits within what appears to be a preserved chalet structure adjacent to the main building, its darkened timber beams and diamond-pane windows left intact while scarlet lacquered chandeliers with glass globe shades introduce an irreverent note that keeps the space from tipping into alpine cliché. Black bentwood chairs and red houndstooth banquette upholstery reinforce the palette with precision. Below, the indoor pool is finished in deep teal mosaic tile beneath a dramatically undulating dark ceiling — an organic form that contrasts deliberately with the classical restraint overhead. Throughout, the property holds a productive tension between its grand hotel inheritance and a design sensibility that is sharply, confidently contemporary.

About

BEAUSiTE Zermatt has had many adventures since it was inspired by the golden age of alpinism to open its doors in 1907. It's time for a new one. We're taking our hotel to greater heights by bringing an exciting new concept to life, which is designed for alpine spirits who like walking to summits...or simply to our spa overlooking the Matterhorn. And when we say "designed", we really mean it. Thanks to our renowned interior designer, atelier zürich, we have implemented an all-new vibrant interior with refined British cues. So you better book before the muddy hiking shoes arrive. The renovated rooms and suites with direct views of the Matterhorn, regional culinary delights, Swiss alpine traditions and, of course, the mountains themselves, are all waiting. Love the alps? Then join us as we launch a new Swiss golden age of alpinism with a dash of British flair!

"Really beautifully designed hotel with bright spacious rooms that overlook the Matterhorn and the village. The huge pool and spa area is a big perk. As is the large, welcoming bar area, which had live music each night while we were there. I appreciated the nice little modern gym next to the spa as well to get in some morning stretch stretching and light workout workouts before hitting the pistes. The delicious breakfast buffet had everything you could ask for… And some things I didn’t even know I COULD ask for! Spring rolls for breakfast? Never heard of that before but sign me up. My husband loved the machine that squeezes the oranges for fresh OJ right in front of your face."

"The Beausite was arguably the finest hotel I have ever stayed in and I have previously stayed in Ritz Carltons, 4 Seasons’, and Langhams for comparison. It was wonderful in every way. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Most notably, the view from our room was staggeringly beautiful. The staff were so wonderful and were ever so informative even prior to our arrival. I just can’t give it due justice here. The restaurants were superb. Breakfast buffet was extensive. And don’t forget the fondue hut! The pools in the spa were beautiful. I which I could live here."

"The hotel offers comfortable rooms with an excellent view of the Matterhorn. However, there are several areas where the experience fell short. First, breakfast was disappointing. The food selection was limited, and the service felt disengaged; staff appeared bored and unmotivated, which detracted from what should be a pleasant start to the day. Second—and more importantly—the hotel showed a complete lack of flexibility during peak season. The property strongly enforces five-night minimum stays. Although we managed to book a three-night stay well in advance, circumstances beyond our control significantly impacted our trip. On February 16, 2026, due to major disruptions in the Swiss rail system—including two avalanches and acts of vandalism—there were no trains operating to Zermatt. Despite maintaining continuous communication with the hotel, and being explicitly told that the first night would be refunded if trains were not running, we were ultimately marked as a no-show. This was indeed the case: it was physically impossible to reach Zermatt that day. We arrived the following day, despite further avalanche-related disruptions near Randa. At that point, the hotel refused to refund the missed night and also declined to offer an additional night, even though availability was clearly visible on their own online booking system. While the hotel is correct in stating that they do not control weather or transportation conditions, neither do guests. A more reasonable and customer-oriented approach—such as a partial refund or a goodwill adjustment—would have demonstrated fairness and understanding. Unfortunately, no such flexibility was offered, leaving the impression that policy mattered more than the guest experience"

"A beautiful, clean hotel with large, quiet rooms. The decor is gorgeous, the breakfast delicious and the gym, spa and outside jacuzzi just perfect. One of my favourite hotels. Even the electric shuttle pick up from the station is cute!"
