PB hotel design editorial

Planted in Taipei's Xinyi district amid the glass towers and luxury retail blocks that define the city's most commercially charged neighborhood, Humble House Taipei arrives with a deliberate counterproposal: that a hotel set within this kind of urban density can still traffic in calm. Part of Hilton's Curio Collection, the property is housed in a mid-rise tower whose aluminum-louvered facade — visible in the rooftop pool image, the horizontal banding stepping back in rhythm across roughly twenty floors — gives the building a textural quality that softens its corporate surroundings. The rooftop pool itself is the hotel's most photographically arresting gesture, its mosaic floor laid in an abstract organic pattern of deep teal and black against a field of cerulean blue, a deliberate visual counterpoint to the grid-heavy cityscape rising behind it. Inside, the design intelligence shifts register. The double-height lobby deploys polished travertine floors, a warm wood-slat ceiling detail, and curved upholstered seating in neutral tones anchored by a yellow-bordered rug — an atmosphere closer to considered residential than corporate atrium. Guest rooms carry the same disciplined palette: dark-stained timber joinery, low-profile platform beds, lacquered cabinetry running the full wall length, and a vivid burnt-orange occasional chair that punctuates each space with controlled energy. The all-day restaurant makes its own argument, dominated by a chandelier constructed from fragments of stacked chairs — a nod, perhaps deliberate, to Tejo Remy's Rag Chair aesthetic — suspended above round tables set with terracotta-upholstered seating.

"Do not stay here under any circumstances. I was scammed into an upsell as they deliberately mislead me. I checked in under a prepaid reservation on Expedia. When I arrived I was told that I needed to pay an early check- in fee of 8000 NTD. I agreed, and asked the staff member (Eddie) to tell me what my total for the entire reservation was going to be. He indicated $27,000NTD TOTAL. When I checked out , I realized what the staff had done was add an ADDITIONAL $27,000 on top of what I ALREADY paid, citing that I asked for a room upgrade when I absolutely did not. He ended up charging me an additional 9000 “early fee” for each night I was there. When I attempted to sort out the situation during check out, the staff on duty (Royce/Rolce?) was unwilling to help or to find some sort of solution. He only answered with “Can I have you pay the bill now” and when I asked for a supervisors contact he grew impatient and rude. This whole experience has left an incredibly bad impression. A Hilton property deliberately misleading and price gouging a customer while refusing to offer any real assistance is so beneath the brand. Unfortunately I ended up paying the whole bill as they insisted that because I signed a form during check-in I accept all costs . So what was supposed to be a small weekend treat for myself turned into a $1500 USD ordeal because I had the misfortune of running into staff who just wanted to upsell someone who was already too tired and desperate for rest to read the fine print! Moral is - always read what you sign and stay away from this place. There are hotels nearby that are equally nice and won’t try to rip you off."

"Located in the Xinyi District of Taipei, this hotel is part of the Hilton portfolio, and provided an excellent hotel stay experience in a perfect location. You enter on the ground (1st) floor and take the initial elevator to the 6th floor where you find the reception desk and restaurant. Once checked in you'll use separate elevator banks, and using your keycard you'll access your hotel room in the high-rise above. The hotel room is comfortable with good bedding and very nice bathroom. Be ready for the electric Toto toilet - it will automatically raise and lower the seat and offer bidet services. My perspective is that the room could be brighter - more lighting - but that's just me. The hotel restaurant provides for a very good breakfast buffet - juices, fresh-grinding espresso/coffee machine, fresh fruits, salads, cereals, congee, Taiwan noodle soups, eggs cooked to order, hot items, smoked salmon sliders, yogurts, breads, and mini chocolate croissants. You will not go hungry and will start your day well-fed. The fitness center is just-right, with cable machine, free weights, treadmills, and stationary bikes. The swimming pool was closed during my stay. Here are the perfect location aspects >> walking distance to Taipei Metro Bannan (blue) Line at the Taipei City Hall Station (use exit 3)...surrounding the hotel are multiple shopping malls (I think it's called Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Place multiple buildings and Breeze Xinyi) with high-end shops, restaurants, food courts, and more. In fact after the malls open at 11am, there is a covered outdoor walkway on the 2nd and 3rd floors where you may navigate all over the malls even if it's raining. Amongst the restaurants available are a Din Tai Fung location - get there early - a TimHoWan for Hong Kong dim sum, a Texas Roadhouse (right below the hotel 6th floor), a TGI Fridays, and lots more. Across the street in the BellaVita mall food court is a CEO Beef Noodle, which offers a clear broth beef noodle soup that is really delicious. Also in walking distance is the Taipei 101 Tower. Highly recommend."

"First time to Taipei. First time ever staying at a Humble House Hotel. Property is part of the Hilton Family of Hotels, which reminds me I need to sign up and start earning points for future stays at other Hilton Properties around the world. Really liked this location. There are many malls around the area. Other big name hotels are also around the district. This was easy to get to Taipei Pride Parade which was held at the Civic Center that was walking distance to and from the hotel. Breakfast buffet was fabulous! Almost every morning I made downstairs. It was a total of 5 of us staying here. Me, my husband, my cousin and his partner and another friend all occupying 3 separate rooms. Would love to stay here again. Never once used the fitness center, it was definitely not on my agenda to workout on this trip."

"Generally a good location with close proximity to the various Mitsukoshi Malls and walking distance to Taipei 101. Service is good and the quality of the hotel breakfast is the selling point. The hotel gym and massage facilities are good."
