PB hotel design editorial

Planted in the heart of Taipei's Xinyi district, where glass towers cluster around the base of Taipei 101 and the city's appetite for spectacle runs highest, W Taipei announced itself in 2011 as the brand's first foothold in Taiwan. The 405-room property, designed by the local architectural firm CY Lee & Partners — the same office responsible for Taipei 101 itself — rises 31 floors above the commercial district, its facade articulated with the warm timber screens and red-lit vertical fins visible at street level, where a neon W blazes against dark cladding with the directness of a nightclub marquee. Interiors by Rockwell Group carry the brand's characteristic energy while threading in local reference: guestrooms pair platform beds beneath lacquer-red steel canopy frames with grasscloth wall coverings and dark-stained timber joinery, the palette hovering between East Asian formal tradition and contemporary pop confidence. Standard rooms introduce patterned floral carpets and glazed window benches overlooking the mountain horizon, while upper-floor suites open the geometry outward through floor-to-ceiling glazing. The upper-level restaurant deploys cage-wire pendant lights above circular tables set against a panoramic curtain-wall view of the Taipei basin, and the outdoor pool deck — lined with striped market umbrellas and sun loungers on teak decking — places a chrome sculptural figure at its far end as punctuation, giving the terrace the feeling of a curated garden rather than a conventional amenity podium.

"Aside from the location, I don't believe this property offers good value for the money. The rate is not competitive even with the corporate rate, and the staff service does not match the high rate. Additionally, suite upgrade rewards are not available here—as always. And despite being an Ambassador member, I did not receive any benefits at this property."

"A hotel of a lot of energy. Like the design and the colour the hotel has used. The food is great with a lot of varieties. Like the boss sound system in the room. The hotel has a great location and is the city hall station of the blue line MRT is just around the corner, together with a few grand shopping malls."

"I stayed at W Taipei on 29 March 2026 for one night and found this hotel exceptionally welcoming. The staff had already prepared a few pillows as requested (as I always have neck pain), and the staff members at the check-in section were friendly and welcoming. Special thanks go to Alice, who showed me around the hotel and notified me whether my room was ready (as I arrived early, it’s very considerate for what she did) ), and the lady at the breakfast restaurant with the pink hair, who introduced the breakfast in detail and followed my order for a Latte. The fitness centre was spacious and well-equipped. Most machines were adequate for travellers, and the whirlpool was comfortable too. Very impressive! What surprised me was the spacious room with a wide-angled view of Taipei City. The room was designed with attention to detail, like the phone charger near the bed, the phone shelf in the toilet, and the sofa near the window to look out at Taipei City. However, the room was a bit dim, the remote was not sensitive, and the shower valve was behind the shower (what?). There was no screen to block the shower water (which led to a slippery washroom floor), and the sink was much higher than the bathroom counter. But these tiny things did not adversely affect the top quality of this hotel. Thanks to W Taipei for your exceptional service; I’ll definitely stay here when I come back to Taipei. With love xx, Ben"

"We absolutely loved this hotel—everything was top of the line, and we couldn’t have been more comfortable during our stay. The location is fantastic, close to many attractions and just a short walk to the metro, making it easy to explore the city. We also appreciated being surrounded by excellent shopping malls, which made downtime convenient and fun. If you’re driving, just keep in mind that there’s no valet service, so you’ll need to park in the underground garage a few stories down. Overall, this hotel offers the perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and convenience—highly recommended!"
