PB hotel design editorial

Perched above the Phrom Phong district on a slender tower rising over Bangkok's mid-city residential fabric, 137 Pillars Suites Bangkok translates the architectural language of its celebrated Chiang Mai sibling — a heritage property built around a teak colonial house — into something altogether more vertical and metropolitan. The Bangkok property, which opened in 2017, was designed by the Bangkok-based firm dp Architects, with interiors handled by Design Worldwide Partnership. The building's lower podium presents a composed white facade articulated by fine vertical fins and circular perforations, a detail visible in the entrance pavilion's decorative steel columns, which echo traditional Thai latticework filtered through a modernist sensibility. Inside, the 34-floor tower houses 179 suites, each configured with floor-to-ceiling glazing that frames panoramic views across Bangkok's low-rise sprawl. Rooms carry a palette of warm taupe grasscloth wallcovering, dark-stained timber ceiling battens, chevron-patterned carpets in chocolate and stone, and deep leather-quilted headboards — a language that sits closer to contemporary Asian business luxury than to the heritage romanticism of the Chiang Mai original. A large-format lotus photograph above each bed introduces a softer botanical accent against the otherwise controlled warmth of the scheme. The rooftop infinity pool, framed by a living green wall and dissolving into the Bangkok skyline on all sides, gives the property its most singular spatial moment — sky, water, and city collapsing into a single unbroken plane.

"From the moment we arrived, our butler Ounce made sure our every question and wish was taken care of. The entire staff could not have been more warm or welcoming. And the room was outstanding. They even asked us how we liked our pillows! Attention to every small detail added up to a spectacular stay. The rooftop restaurant at sunset was also a stunning way to start our first ever trip to Thailand."

"I did not stay in this hotel but my experience in the restuarant Nimitr, will entice me to pick this hotel in future. I decided to treta my family to this wonderful restaurant and my experience is mind blowing ! The waiter and the chef is fantastic and came personally to chat with us. The food was so delicious and perfectly executed and looks beautiful but tantalising tasty. The chef Korawit Rungchat ( NAT) I think ahs just won awards too. He dished out some complimentary starters for us to try . Whenit came to deserts, when we were disappointed that our choice was not available, NAT concoct 2 complimentary desserts which is not on the menu for us to try. I must say they taste so good and u will not get it anywhere in bangkok. The restaurant ambience is so pretty and romantic ( we sat indoors ) but if you sit outdoor, you will have the view of bangkok and it was cooling and breezy !!! I wnna go back there again."

"Stayed one night in the Sukhothai Suite for our anniversary. The room had a lovely ambience and felt elegant, with a nice in-room bar setup and a Bose soundbar which was a great touch. The hotel also kindly arranged a bubble bath, surprise cake, and bed decoration for our anniversary, which we appreciated. However, the overall suite experience did not fully justify the premium category. One of the selling points was the butler service, but it was never personally introduced or proactively explained. Instead, communication seemed to go through the main reception, so it didn’t feel especially exclusive or personalized. It would be much better if guests had direct contact with their assigned butler (for example via WhatsApp) and were clearly informed about the available benefits. Service when requesting food to the room felt a bit unenthusiastic, though it was late at night so that may have played a part. The carpet in the suite had visible stains and could use a deep clean or replacement. The TV was also not a smart TV, which was disappointing for a suite of this level. Special mention to Fahsai, who was sweet, kind, and pleasant throughout our stay. Another downside was the heavy traffic outside the hotel, making arrivals and departures inconvenient. Overall, a nice stay with some thoughtful touches, but I don’t feel the Sukhothai Suite offered significantly better value or service than a lower room category."

"Hands down one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever experienced. This is truly a five star service excellence and quality. From the moment I arrived to the point of check out, everything was seamless. Room was spacious, immaculate, modern and the views were gorgeous. Breakfast was excellent. Staff is very polite, professional and friendly. Six stars out of five!"
