PB hotel design editorial

At the precise confluence of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, where the Ruak River meets the Mekong and three national borders dissolve into a single amber haze, the site chosen for Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort carries a geographic drama that any building would struggle to match. The resort, which opened in 2003 as part of Minor Hotels' Anantara expansion into northern Thailand, was designed to work with that tension rather than compete against it — low-slung pavilion structures stepping down a forested hillside in a manner that borrows from Lanna vernacular architecture, the pitched rooflines and dark timber framing echoing the temple compounds of nearby Chiang Saen without tipping into imitation. The 61 suites and tented camps arranged across the hillside draw their interior language from the same sources: polished rosewood floors, gauze-draped four-poster beds with saffron-trimmed canopies, low-profile teak coffee tables, and seagrass rugs layered over the hardwood. Bathrooms are finished in a warm sand-toned terrazzo, the circular soaking tubs set open to the sleeping area in a gesture that feels less like a design flourish than a considered spatial logic. The main restaurant, set beneath a double-height teak ceiling with bamboo-screened mezzanine balustrades, frames the Mekong floodplain through floor-to-ceiling glazing — a view that at dawn, when river mist floods the valley below the infinity pool, makes the architecture feel entirely incidental to the landscape it was placed within.

Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort Reviews

"This 3 day stay was a highlight of our month long trip through 5 countries. The service was top notch and the elephant encounter was a life experience! We also were able to experience the spa (top notch) and the jungle bubble (WAY better than camping!!). We were particularly impressed with the efforts of the management and staff to ensure our staff was memorable."

"Wow! This is an amazing resort. It is expensive but well worth it. I had the bubble tent experience during my stay. You have to already be a guest at the hotel tgrn do the bubble tent as an guest experience. I paid over £1500+ GBP including airport transfers. From exquisite food and nightly turn-down service to attentive staff... this review can't do them justice. The elephants are majestic too. They are sustainability aware too- minimal single use plastics but they still keep the standards very high. The nearest airport is Chiang RAI. The taxi from the airport had WiFi, a charger elephant shaped biscuits, water, pillows and juices. That was just the beginning. 2 hiccups- not a criticism just my experience... This was my first time in Thailand, they never said that there are 2 airports in the region so I ended up having an expensive 8 hour taxi ride round-trip, when there's an another airport 45mins away that no-one mentioned. Also, my card was charged twice- I happily conceded it was an error. But when I emailed reservations and provided a copy of my card statement, they denied it. It was only when I asked for their details to pursue legal action, that they apologised n I was promptly refunded."

"Great view and excellent breakfast. All the staffs provide fantastic services beyond my expectation, especially Mr. Super Pae - restaurant staff and Sue(Tiger) - the walking guide. Highly recommend to join “walking with giants”, once in a life time activity that should not be missed. We will definitely come back here again!"

"Having the opportunity to try this hidden-gem in the heart of jungle is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Since my arrival, I was prepared and excited for my upcoming treatment at Anantara Spa. All expectations were met and beyond, SPA manager Khun Jane was warm and professional, I took her recommendation for Elemis facial, which gave me an instant boost and I felt like 25 again. All 5 treatment rooms here come with the glimpse to the hill green. I am sure I will have another treatment here before leaving this wonderful resort."
