PB hotel design editorial

Where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge above the slow brown curve of the Ruak River, Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle occupies one of hospitality's more theatrically committed conceits: a permanent camp of fifteen tented pavilions spread through bamboo forest so dense the structures seem to dissolve into the canopy when viewed from the water. Opened in 2006 and designed by Bill Bensley — the Bangkok-based American designer whose fingerprints are on some of Southeast Asia's most exuberantly imagined resorts — the property draws its visual language from the romance of nineteenth-century colonial exploration, filtered through Bensley's characteristically unrestrained curatorial instinct. The interiors accumulate rather than edit: tufted silver-leather headboards paired with antique campaign trunks, brass soaking tubs positioned against canvas walls with forest views beyond, hand-turned spindle furniture and kilim rugs layered across dark hardwood floors. Antler chandeliers hang from coffered teak ceilings in the pavilion suites, while the open-sided dining sala — its deep thatch ceiling supported by blackened timber columns, a clay fireplace mounted with a cast elephant head anchoring one wall — looks out over a bamboo-covered ridgeline dropping toward the river valley. The deck terrace, furnished with iron chairs in acid green cushioning and scattered with bronze elephant figures, traces the riverbank directly below. It is a place deliberately constructed around fantasy, and Bensley executes that fantasy with enough material specificity that it never quite tips into pastiche.

"Trip of a lifetime. Staff were meaningfully considerate and knowledgeable, including the gardeners who knew everything including my spa schedule. Khun Ajit, along with his most amazing staff, including Noo, Nikki, Tony, Eff, Krit and many others made the experience personal, present and effortlessly invisible at the same time. Postcards arriving to my room just as the photo shoot was complete. 10/10."

"We had the trip of a lifetime at tented camp! We had the privilege of spending the last leg of our honeymoon here - and wow! We had an all inclusive stay which made everything easy and relaxing. First off, the accommodations are incredible! Just the right mix of adventure and incredible luxury for an unforgettable experience. The tents are super luxe, gorgeously decorated, and with clear view of the river delta and the occasional elephant! Secondly, the staff went above and beyond at every turn to make our stay magical. Yu, San & Raye were our elite servers, making all meals and sundowner cocktails delightful - as well as Krit, Paeng, & Kong. (Kong even taught us how to make his signature cocktail!) Victor prepared the most unbelievable menus each day - allowing us to enjoy cuisine and flavors from all over Thailand and beyond. Anjit & Ralph were excellent managers, bringing sunshine and flexible fun scheduling to our every day. Elle & Effe led a Thai massage class for us in their stunning open air jungle spa. Rain expertly led us through the city’s incredible landmarks and Sang & Tony taught us more about the amazing elephants. Lastly, the elephants ! It is incredible to witness the foundation’s rescue and rehabilitation work. Each morning, 2 elephants join for their own breakfast and guests can participate in feeding and the occasional bath. They have clear guidelines for safe and ethical interactions, under careful and loving observation by their dutiful handlers. The foundation facilitates veterinarian externships and research studies as well as thoughtful experiences with hotel guests. This was overall a phenomenal experience and we are so grateful to have stayed at tented camp!"

"We booked 4 nights at the Four Seasons Golden Triangle due to the reviews, we were not disappointed! It was super amazing and a wonderful experience, we had a Golden Triangle Tent which had a hot tub which we used every day if not twice a day it was perfect after a dusty walk or boat experience. The four days gives you plenty to do and are all inclusive. The food was outstanding and the choice of wines offered within the package were top notch. The staff are incredible, the service was top notch- to mention a few Brinee, Raye , Yu Chano ,and Noo all were super lovely waitress and butlers and Simkit the guide .Po the manager was extremely exceptional and made a point of being available for a chat every day. We can highly recommend this Resort and the wonderful hospitality we experienced."

"We had a truly fantastic stay and a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Golden Triangle Four Seasons Tented Camp. Every moment of our three nights there was exceptional—from the impeccable service and outstanding food to the unforgettable, thoughtfully curated interactions with the elephants. The entire staff was extraordinary: attentive to every detail, genuinely warm, and deeply welcoming. We had a dinner in the elephant camp - a truly memorable night. We cannot recommend this experience highly enough."
