PB hotel design editorial

Bophut Beach on Koh Samui's quieter northern shore has always attracted a different traveller than the island's louder southern coastline — one drawn to the old Chinese fishing village nearby rather than the Full Moon circuit — and Anantara Bophut Resort & Spa has built its identity around precisely that distinction. Set directly on the white sand, the low-rise resort arranges its pavilion-style accommodation across landscaped grounds threaded with a freeform lagoon pool, tropical plantings, and carved stone figures that anchor the space in a specifically Thai rather than generic Asian idiom. The architecture keeps to two storeys throughout, with dark timber-framed rooflines referencing traditional Thai vernacular without tipping into pastiche. The interiors balance local craft references against a contemporary resort palette. Guest rooms are finished in deep-stained hardwood floors, dark wood four-poster frames, and silk-weave cushions in indigo and teal, with gilded lacquerwork panels and carved timber screens providing material texture. Pool villa categories dissolve the boundary between bedroom and private terrace entirely, full-height glazed doors folding back to connect the room with its plunge pool and the Gulf of Thailand beyond. The beach-facing restaurant, visible in the images, favours a lighter register — rattan-backed armchairs, timber ceiling decking, louvred screens in a geometric pattern — and opens directly onto the pool deck, where white-canopied daybeds line the sand in a deliberate counterpoint to the resort's warmer, craft-inflected interiors.

"I had a great time in Kho Samui, however the stay at the Anantara Bophut was not as good as expected mostly to the quality of their services. During our first days we stayed at the Anantara Lawana which is a 5 notches greater than the Bophut resort. The breakfast at the Bophut resort was very deficient on quality compared to Lawana. The services at the swimming pool were scarce. Our only dinner at the Bophut Thai restaurant was delayed because basically they run it as part of the room service so our order was on the queue before we were served. All the tables were experimenting big delays of the delivery of the dishes."

"Overall we were very satisfied.Ko Samui Anantara is in a fantastic location. The hotel isn't very large, so everything is very close; you can reach the beach and restaurants from your room with short walks."

"Thank you for a most wonderful stay. From the moment we arrived, all members of staff were so welcoming and helpful. Room was spacious and had everything we needed. Plenty of bottled water. The hotel is set amongst beautiful lush gardens. The breakfast was delicious with the most amazing selection of choice. Lunch menu at the beach bar was varied and tasty. We spent most days on the beach where it was easy to get a sunbed. Beautiful warm sea and drinks delivered if needed. A big thank you to all the staff especially those working at the beach bar. We certainly made the most of the happy hour - served so quickly by the team who were always smiling and made time for a quick chat. The Taste of Siam night was a highlight, delicious food with traditional dancers and a fire show. A night to remember! We will look forward to returning soon."

"I think I should start by saying this is definitely one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in … with everything from check in to check out, absolutely perfect. So here’s the detail … Location - 5 minute walk from the main fisherman’s village walking street, the location is ideal. Far enough away so you don’t experience any noise, close enough for a great selection of bars, restaurants, shops. It’s also just off the main road, but again absolutely no noise. The front of the hotel leads onto the beach for easy access. There’s also a Top’s supermarket less than five minutes away which was really useful. Check In - we arrived lunchtime and our room wasn’t quite ready but we were given cold towels, complementary drinks, and after a short wait we were in the room. Staff on reception so welcoming and helpful. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very special. Room - nice size, very comfy bed, safe, fridge, good number of power sockets. Air con was very good and really needed after a day on the beach. Large TV with reasonable mix of channels but hey who wants to watch TV when you’re on holiday !! Bathroom very clean with large rain shower which we loved. Really good selection of toiletries and other sanitary items including a mosquito spray which was very effective. We also had a small balcony although didn’t find the need to use it. Housekeeping was excellent and the room spotless every day. Breakfast - amazing selection with my personal highlights being the mango/fruit smoothies, shrimp dim sum, and the noodle soup. For those a little less adventurous there’s a great selection of continental bread/pastries cheese etc cereals, omelettes and more. Not forgetting fresh fruit and juices. The service at breakfast was excellent and made a fabulous way to start every day. Restaurant - we didn’t eat in the restaurant as spoiled for choice elsewhere but we did partake in the Spice Spoons cookery class which was amazing. We had the choice of four dishes so went for Satay, Massaman curry, Phad Thai, and a Prawn Red curry. The flavours were out of this world and we can’t wait to take our newfound skills back to our own kitchen. Pool Area - Pool was great, very deep at one end, but less than a metre at the other. On most days there were enough sunbeds although it did get busy at weekends. As always a few idiots who try to reserve butwe did witness the hotel removing items to free up beds. There were also a couple of jacuzzi areas with some very relaxing bubbles. The bar area was very friendly serving a good selection of drinks and food. Obviously more expensive than some of the local bars it’s still more than affordable. They also offer two happy hours one from 5 pm to 6 pm and the other 9 pm to 10 pm with drinks on two for one. The staff at the bar were excellent and a special mention to both Milk and Pond for both their service and friendship. Beach - the hotel has a private area of beach with lots of sunbeds and even a button to press if you want to drink. This office is sake the sand is a little course however it’s a good way to tone your feet ha ha. The sea is fabulous to swimming and was very calm every day we were there. Be careful of the current because they can be a little bit strong if you go further out. One added bonus is watching the sea eagles who flew by a couple of times a day. Activities - quite a few on offer … we did the sound bath which was very relaxing and had a go in the gym. Staff - wow, just wow …. The staff are amazing … so friendly, so polite, so helpful, so engaging , so efficient, so professional, and so customer focussed. I can honestly say overall it’s the best service we’ve had anywhere, it’s also so natural. One person who deserves a special mention is Sandy the guest relations manager. What a lovely lady, so helpful, and always full of smiles. A huge thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so special. Overall - we had the most fabulous stay. the hotel comes highly recommended, and we hope to return one day soon."
