PB hotel design editorial

Bophut Beach on Koh Samui's quieter northern shore has always attracted a different traveller than the island's louder southern coastline — one drawn to the old Chinese fishing village nearby rather than the Full Moon circuit — and Anantara Bophut Resort & Spa has built its identity around precisely that distinction. Set directly on the white sand, the low-rise resort arranges its pavilion-style accommodation across landscaped grounds threaded with a freeform lagoon pool, tropical plantings, and carved stone figures that anchor the space in a specifically Thai rather than generic Asian idiom. The architecture keeps to two storeys throughout, with dark timber-framed rooflines referencing traditional Thai vernacular without tipping into pastiche. The interiors balance local craft references against a contemporary resort palette. Guest rooms are finished in deep-stained hardwood floors, dark wood four-poster frames, and silk-weave cushions in indigo and teal, with gilded lacquerwork panels and carved timber screens providing material texture. Pool villa categories dissolve the boundary between bedroom and private terrace entirely, full-height glazed doors folding back to connect the room with its plunge pool and the Gulf of Thailand beyond. The beach-facing restaurant, visible in the images, favours a lighter register — rattan-backed armchairs, timber ceiling decking, louvred screens in a geometric pattern — and opens directly onto the pool deck, where white-canopied daybeds line the sand in a deliberate counterpoint to the resort's warmer, craft-inflected interiors.

"On arrival you pass along a road lined with lily ponds into the reception area which is an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Beyond that are magnificent tropical gardens with further massive lily ponds. The bedrooms line the side of the hotel with views over the gardens. They are nicely fitted although a little on the compact side. The pool is at the rear of the hotel overlooking the beach. The sunbed area is a little tight on space and beds are not always available at busy times although there is generally availability on the beach. The service from the pool bar for both food and drinks is excellent. Breakfast is well presented with a wide choice and good service. Happy Hour at the pool bar is a nice opportunity to sit and relax and enjoy the view. From there it is only a short walk to the bars and restaurants in Fisherman’s Village. Service and friendliness of all the staff is what makes the hotel exceptional. Our stay was slightly marred by a number of events which were taking place but generally the hotel was marvellous, and we would have no hesitation in coming to stay again."

"This was our second stay at The Anantara Bophut. The service from the moment you walk in was excellent, from Tina at the front desk and the wonderful Sandy who can help with anything! Sandy presented me with a lovely letter outlining useful information and all the restaurant bookings she had made for us during our trip. We stayed in a Deluxe Sea View Room, but the first room we were allocated on the 2nd floor did not really have a sea view as a tree was in the way, but Sandy and Tina organised for us to move up to the 3rd floor above immediately so we had the best sea view to enjoy throughout our stay. Housekeeping was excellent on a daily basis - they were very quick to respond to a minor drain issue in our bathroom (and sent a fruit platter to say sorry!), and also for helping my son when he was sick during the night and messaging me the next day to check he was ok. They took a tray of recovery food to his room - so thoughtful and appreciated. Thank you. The breakfast really is outstanding from the freshly made healthy juices to the delicious Thai soup and Asian food station (we loved the different Asian specials every day), a very very good Bircher muesli, egg station, pastries - everything! We have eaten at a lot of five star hotels in Asia and around the world and this is up there with the best for breakfast quality and selection despite it being a smaller size hotel (Bung and Palm must get a mention for great breakfast service). Exceptional, personal service around the pool from Mook - she always had a smile on her face, gave us ice in glasses every day for water which was hugely appreciated, and presented us with a menu right at the the start of happy hour at Tan which she knew we liked to enjoy every day on time! Bung was also great around the pool. It is the little personal touches above which made the stay that extra bit special. My 17 year old son loved the gym - it's not that big, but it was very clean and had the latest equipment. There is a programme of paid and complimentary fitness classes and kayaking/paddle boarding on the beach is free. The new decor in the Deluxe Rooms is well thought out and looks great. We have stayed at other more remote five star hotels on Koh Samui with more space, but why we love the Anantara Bophut is that it is a little bit of tropical paradise on the beach but only a few steps into the hustle and bustle of charming Fisherman's village with its night market, shops and restaurants - the best of both worlds."

"My wife and I just stayed at Anantara Bophut for our honeymoon and it was, without exaggeration, the best hotel experience of my life. From the moment we arrived, every single detail was taken care of — and then some. What truly sets this place apart is the people. Stella, Jass, Sandy, Natty, and Mook were absolutely exceptional. They didn’t just accommodate us — they anticipated everything we needed before we even asked. Mook booked us an excursion that was a highlight of our entire trip. Every interaction felt personal and genuine, never scripted. The property itself is stunning, the food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is pure relaxation. But it’s the team here that makes Anantara Bophut something you don’t forget. We’re already talking about when we can come back — honestly, I’d turn around and check back in tomorrow if I could. If you’re looking for a honeymoon destination or just want a world-class experience in Koh Samui, don’t overthink it. Book Anantara Bophut."

"Spent the most amazing 7 nights on B&B at this hotel. Our room was central to the 2 restaurants, lovely pool and beach beyond. We were greeted each morning for breakfast by the staff in the restaurant who were so pleasant and remembered our room number and drink order after the first day. The really couldn’t have done any more for us. A delight to be around. We spent most of our days either on the beach or around the pool with lunch by the pool bar. Again, friendly and helpful service from the staff around here. From the rear of the hotel, a little under 5 mins you reach Fisherman’s Village which is a nice place to enjoy the night markets, bars and restaurants, many of which have tables on the beachfront or directly on the beach and suit all budgets. A big thank you to all of the staff we met. You are a credit to the hotel and made our holiday."
