PB hotel design editorial

A small granite headland pushing into the Gulf of Thailand between two arcs of white sand at Choeng Mon Beach gives Cape Fahn Hotel its most defining asset — a private island site connected to Koh Samui by a narrow causeway, its rocky perimeter rising from turquoise shallows that shift colour through the day. From the air, the resort's thatched pavilions and villa rooflines barely disturb the tree canopy, the structures arranged across the promontory with a discretion that feels deliberate rather than accidental. The interiors pursue a similarly restrained grammar: dark hardwood floors, high pitched ceilings clad in pale slatted timber, and louvred shutter panels that manage light and air in the manner of traditional Thai domestic architecture translated into a contemporary resort idiom. Villa bedrooms are furnished with bleached rattan benches, woven ikat-cushioned bedheads set against textured geometric wall panels, and gauze curtains that diffuse the evening light coming off the water. Private infinity pools at the cliff-edge villas dissolve visually into the bay below. The restaurant pavilion, open on its seaward side, deploys capiz shell chandeliers — their layered disc construction catching and scattering light — above grey-washed teak dining tables and a geometric encaustic tile floor, the combination landing closer to a relaxed coastal house than a formal hotel dining room. Throughout, the palette keeps faith with the site: sand, driftwood, the particular blue-green of the surrounding sea.

"My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon earlier this year at the wonderful Cape Fahn Hotel. As it was our first time in Koh Samui, we were not sure what to expect, but Cape Fahn completely blew us away. Cape Fahn, being on its own private island, allows you to enjoy Koh Samui with privacy no other hotel can replicate. The Hotel is beautiful, with so much natural beauty and very well kept, creating such a lovely atmosphere. The pool area was lush and well-maintained. Our stay in the Deluxe Pool Villa was incredible; it was spacious, lavish and private, with immaculate views. The space was luxurious, with many thoughtful details, and was kept very clean throughout our stay. We particularly loved the dried mango skin from the mini bar! Having our very own private pool was also a highlight. We enjoyed a daily buffet breakfast at Cape Fahn for the duration of our stay and just loved the wide range of food available each day, from decadent pastries baked fresh to the fresh fruit selection, asian food as well as many Western favourites - we highly recommend the iced Kopi Coffee and always finishing your breakfast with some Thai crullers with both the condensed milk and pandan sauce! We appreciated being served daily by Sao and Nan, who were incredibly kind. We also enjoyed many days poolside, eating delicious snacks from Hue, as well as many of our dinners there. By the end of our trip, we had almost tried everything from the menu, and it was all so delicious. We really enjoyed the Pad Thai, Gauy Tiew Kua Talay, and the Khao Pad Talay! Thank you to Aom, who served us every night; your service was exceptional, as well as Angie, Da and Pui. Through our stay at Cape Fahn, we were able to participate in lots of activities on the island like stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling, where staff member Abel was always ready and able to help. The wellness centre on the island was amazing, and we are still feeling light and incredible after the Thai Massage we received. A true highlight was how accommodating the staff were to my severe food allergies to all nuts. This is not the easiest dietary restriction to have when travelling to Thailand, but the staff were always able to tell me exactly what was in every dish and accommodate when changes needed to be made. Thank you so much to the entire Cape Fahn team; we had an incredible time staying at Cape Fahn to celebrate our honeymoon and truly had the best time. Our new piece of home decor, our coconut orangutan, reminds us of our special trip every day. We cannot wait to return soon!"

"We traveled here on our honeymoon and could not fault a single service or meal! We’ve been super blessed to travel a lot together and found the service received exceeds the price. From the collection via the team to leaving, we felt 100% taken care of and totally relaxed. We will be returning!"

"My wife Stephanie and I were married at Cape Fahn. As a wedding venue and hotel, Cape Fahn is just a magical place. You will know it once you cross the boat over to the island that it’s just different— it’s like a place out of a movie, or a storybook! The rooms and villas are splendid and luxurious. They are spotlessly clean, and most have private pools under the shadiest and most beautiful trees. With the sun and the clouds, and the blue sky and the trees and the sound of the birds singing, you will truly feel like you reached another level of relaxation. The villas are stocked up with snacks and drinks. The restaurant Long Dtai is out of this world. We were lucky enough to eat there a few nights in addition to having our wedding meal there. The view from the deck of the restaurant is magnificent! And I mean this when I say it, the complimentary breakfast they offer is the best that we’ve ever had. They have the best breakfast buffet, and you can still order special items à la carte in addition to your morning coffee to start your day off right. The staff of the hotel is beyond kind and hospitable. They are always smiling and so attentive to the needs of the guests. We had to ask a lot of them due to the wedding, but they always responded immediately and with the most gracious attitude. They keep the rooms extremely clean, drive you around the island, and provide the best service in the pool and restaurants. We want to also give a special shout-out to Khun Neff, who was the venue coordinator on the hotel side. She was SO charismatic and responsive to our needs, helping our guests to feel comfortable and at home with everything. We messaged her over WhatsApp with so many questions and she always responded back brightly, with humor, a smile and a can-do attitude. She helped us with difficult requests like a late check out at 3:00 pm for our big family where she had to shuffle around our party into new villas so that we could be relaxed and comfortable in our last moments at cape fahn. She also helped us to box up our leftover alcohol in preparation for the airport. And she was the one to send us off when we were leaving, and it was a special treat to see her play with Pet, the famous white squirrel of cape fahn, as we were being sent off. Thank you for the memories and for your hospitality and patience, khun neff! Whether you are booking cape fahn for a stay or as a wedding venue, you can’t go wrong, it has to be the most beautiful place in Thailand!"
