PB hotel design editorial

Italian architect Patricia Urquiola brought an unlikely Mediterranean sensibility to the eastern shoulder of Phuket when COMO Point Yamu opened in 2014, siting the main pavilion at the very tip of Cape Yamu so that the Andaman Sea fills every sightline and the island's limestone karst formations dissolve into the haze beyond. The resort spreads across the cape in two distinct registers: dark-roofed private pool villas stepping down the jungle-covered hillside toward the water, and a crisp, horizontally banded main building whose full-length glazing and geometric brise-soleil screens carry a more urban, almost Milanese confidence. Urquiola's interiors work a consistent colour logic — teal, cobalt, and warm walnut set against patterned cement tile floors and white-rendered walls — that runs from the 106 rooms through to the all-day dining restaurant, where oversized woven rattan pendants float above a black-and-white chequerboard floor and a structural column is wrapped floor-to-ceiling in turquoise ceramic tile, a detail closer to contemporary art installation than conventional hospitality decoration. Headboards in the tower rooms are clad in sculptural bas-relief tile panels that echo traditional Thai fretwork through a thoroughly contemporary lens, while the main infinity pool, cantilevered above the treeline, frames the offshore islands with the precision of a viewing instrument. The whole compound carries the feeling of a rigorously edited Italian design mind let loose on a genuinely wild piece of southern Thai coastline.

"The property is very pretty. Love the infinity pool view. Rooms have great views too. The property has two restaurants I loved the Nahmyaa (Thai food) resturant. A huge shout out to May she took good care of us. She is always in the front desk and is very kind and understands all your problems. She gave us a room upgrade because we had some issues with our previous room. She is a gem at Como point Yamu, knows how to treat guests with love and care. The package list for cocktails is limited and needs to have more options. Como shambala spa was amazing. Each and everyone in the spa was kind. My massages were done by masseuse May she was kind and gives amazing relaxing massage. The property is a bit far from city but absolutely worth it with amazing views and staff and totally wellness approach making your stay lovely & relaxing. Huge shoutout to Jane too she is always having a smile and helping in the pool bar & nahmyaa"

"We have recently spent 6 nights at the Como Point Yamu. The hotel is stunning with the lobby totally setting the scene for the amazing architecture of the hotel. We booked a Phang Nga pool suite which is beautiful with amazing views. Upon arrival we discovered there were building works taking place outside the room in clear view from the pool terrace with accompanying building noise. We were invited to view another room but thought it would be okay and declined the offer. On day 3 a crane arrived and the noise increased with no indication of how long it would stay there. We decided that the tranquility and peace we wanted was not going to happen so asked to change rooms. The service we received from the moment we spoke to the reception regarding this was nothing short of incredible. We were shown an alternative room which was perfect, the room was quiet, the views lovely with a sunset view and the pool twice as big as in the initial room. The way this issue was managed really did show the determination of the hotel to make everything “better” and allow us the holiday we so wanted. The food at Naraya is some of the best thai food we’ve ever tasted and the staff looked after us so well. They constantly recommended stand out dishes and even cooked foods not on the menu. We felt so looked after and valued as guests at the hotel. The staff we particularly want to thank at Nahmyaa are Jane, Jeab, Eye, Pairy and Zee who went above and beyond their roles. In La Sirena Day had a smile for us every morning and truly did brighten up our day. All the staff at the hotel are outstanding with every single one greeting us as we passed. We also received their signature massage at the spa which we can highly recommend. Daw, my therapist, was amazing and worked so hard to set my shoulders right. The resort is some distance to the more vibrant areas of Phuket but taxis are easily available either via the Grab app or via reception. There is a scheduled morning beach walk that lasts around an hour which was enjoyed. The standard of housekeeping was absolutely top notch and for the most part seemed to clean your room without ever being seen! The turndown service is great with replenishment of water and a sweet treat every evening. The daily fresh fruit in the room was very welcome. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat from the “crazy” of Phuket then this is the place for you. We felt the South side of the hote was better for us as the peace and quiet there was preferable to the north side. The views maybe better at the north side but they are still amazing from the South. A beautiful hotel with even more beautiful people working there."

"The hotel is beautifully designed, different, calm, not too big and the villas are so private but the hotel still feels intimate when in the social areas. Our 1 bed pool villa is gorgeous. Light, spacious, a beautiful turquoise blue. Such comfortable chairs and lounge area, 2 bathrooms and the infinity pool overlooking the sea with the most amazing views. A really large space that feels like home for a week. I also love the lobby area which is serene. The staff!! Oh my goodness, so attentive, polite, always a smile, helpful and genuine. Thank you Bim who was our ‘butler” she was so helpful and went above and beyond. Every single staff member was 5 star. We used the hotel to book at round trip taxi to Pa Khlok which was 400 baht round trip for a 3 hour period. This was as economical as grab/bolt. We wanted to get out of the hotel environment for a change and went to Yamu Social to eat. Really recommend, next door to a 7-11 one side and a massage place (only 1 there) on the other. You can ring and book a massage so you definitely get in and the person who answers speaks English. Photo Inc. Pa khlok is less than 10 mins away. We stayed a week so had a spa massage included which was amazing, fruit each day in the villa plus a re stocked fridge with soft drinks and a free BBQ night in our villa. I wouldn’t want to eat in just either of the 2 restaurants for a week but when we did it was lovely. The hotel is remote for walking distance but accessible to get out using taxis easily and cheaply. It’s been a wonderful week where we’ve felt special, thank you everyone x"

"Como Point Yamu is the first resort we have stayed at where I understand why reviewers feel a place should be a 6 Star classification. From the creative and beautiful design, to the privacy and views, to the room we never wanted to leave, to the world class spa, it was all beyond a 5 Star experience. Customer service by all staff was that perfect balance of friendly, helpful, and giving us space as we needed. Special mention to the folks managing all our questions at the front desk and the two amazing therapists in the Spa: Pii Patty and Pii Woon. We needed a place to really recover and reflect and it allowed for that and more. Guaranteed you will love it here."

"COMO properties are amongst the best- their locations are beautiful, the properties are sensitive and the service and food are first rate. The Yamu Point is no exception. We spent 5 days in a blissful bubble with forays to the nearby islands of Phang Na on the hotel boat as well as more touristy visits to se Gibbons and elephants. The strength and the weakness of Yamu is that it is relatively remote and has no beach. This is a strength because you are removed from tourists and the atmosphere feels authentic. The disadvantage is that a trip to the beach means a hop to an island. The hotel makes up with excellent pools ( our villa had its own) which have extraordinary views. The spa is first rate. We look forward to returning for another bliss boost"
