PB hotel design editorial

Dry-stacked stone walls built from rock pulled out of the hillside during excavation give OKU Bodrum a material honesty that most resort architecture on the Aegean peninsula avoids entirely. The 58-room adults-only property, designed by AEM Architecture and set to open in 2026 on Bodrum's northern Küçükbük coastline, steps down a steep rocky headland in terraced bands, each level claiming its own slice of the turquoise water below. Thatched pavilions, timber pergolas, and a wooden jetty extending into the bay give the waterfront sequence an unhurried, almost village-like rhythm, while the reclaimed stone retaining walls bind the whole composition to the landscape rather than imposing on it. Inside, OKU Hotels' in-house design team has worked in pale limewash plaster, local marble, and warm walnut throughout, establishing a palette that sits somewhere between Aegean farmhouse and contemporary minimal. Guest rooms layer rough-weave linen curtains, woven-cord lounge chairs with visible mortise joinery, and low wooden bed platforms in a way that feels genuinely spare without feeling spare for its own sake. Integrated breezeways draw air through the building passively, reducing the need for mechanical cooling and keeping the rooms quietly alive with cross-ventilation. The restaurant dissolves its interior edge with floor-to-ceiling sliding frames that open fully onto a pool terrace lined with reed parasols, the kitchen's dark timber shelving stacked with matte ceramic vessels that read as both pantry and still life.
