PB hotel design editorial

Cascading down a sun-bleached hillside above the Aegean in tiers of warm limestone and reinforced concrete, the building that houses The Bodrum EDITION presents from the water as something between a Bodrum village and a contemporary resort — the stepped massing and sandy palette borrowing from local vernacular without reproducing it literally. Opened in 2021 near Yalıkavak, the property was developed through EDITION's characteristic collaboration between Ian Schrager and Marriott, with interiors shaped to balance the brand's urbane minimalism against the particular quality of Turkish coastal light. Inside, the rooms sustain a calm that the exterior massing promises — bleached oak headboards, travertine-tiled floors, and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass that dissolves the boundary between bedroom and private terrace, the Aegean filling the frame beyond. The palette holds to cream, warm sand, and white, punctuated by terracotta pots planted with single olive trees and the occasional burst of pink bougainvillea. Dining happens across two distinct registers: a daytime beach restaurant shaded by heavy timber pergolas with reed-mat ceilings, teak tables, and director's chairs in white canvas; and an evening terrace where darkened furniture, rush-seated chairs, woven cushions, and candles pushed beneath a canopy of mature trees establish something closer to a garden supper club than a hotel restaurant. The property holds around 100 rooms and villas, each positioned to face the water.

"I am deeply shocked, appalled, and disappointed to report a severe case of explicit discrimination that my family and I experienced today at one of your luxury properties, The Bodrum EDITION. On July 24, 2026, at approximately 11:15 AM, I arrived at The Bodrum EDITION with my family for day-use of the beach facilities. The previous evening, we had called the hotel to secure a reservation. The staff explicitly informed us that they do not operate on a reservation basis for beach day-use, but assured us that if we arrived early in the morning, they would gladly accommodate and assist us. They did not tell anything about Cabana obligation for five people on the phone. Following their instructions, we arrived precisely at 11:15 AM and stated that we were ready and willing to pay the standard day-use fee of €120 per person. However, we were met with an incredibly cold, unwelcoming, and dismissive attitude by the front staff. They initially claimed that a party of five could only be hosted in a cabana, but that all cabanas were fully occupied. When we requested regular sunbeds instead, the staff abruptly changed their narrative, claiming the hotel was at "90% capacity" and that they could not admit us at all. While we were being turned away under the pretext of "full capacity," we witnessed multiple other guests and groups who arrived after us being welcomed into the property without any restrictions. Most egregiously, we heard a group of people who walked in right after us was immediately greeted with the phrase, "Let me arrange a cabana for you right away!" by another staff while we have been told that everything was full. We understood that they were discriminating us but we didn’t understand why. Then we realized It was clear that the sole reason for our denial of service was the fact that my mother, my sister, and I were wearing Hashema (modest swimwear). The staff systematically filtered us out based entirely on our modest attire, while seamlessly admitting everyone else. This was not a matter of availability; it was an act of blatant, illegal, and unethical discrimination against paying guests. The truth of this timeline, our interaction, and the preferential treatment given to subsequent guests can be easily verified by auditing the hotel’s entrance and reception camera footage from July 24, 2026, between 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM. They literally sent us away while other guests were standing there and waiting to enter the beach. I said “are those people going to be denied as well?” But staff members didn’t answer me, that was what made us shocked. None of them have been told that “beach is unavailable due to capacity”. I will add the picture I took before I left as a proof that we were the only ones that denied while others stayed. Marriott International and the EDITION brand pride themselves globally on diversity, inclusion, and the core belief of "putting people first." The actions of the team at The Bodrum EDITION directly violate Marriott's corporate values, international human rights, and local consumer protection laws regarding the arbitrary refusal of service."
