PB hotel design editorial

At the point where Karaköy's waterfront tram lines curve toward the Galata Bridge, with the Golden Horn and the Süleymaniye Mosque silhouetted on the far bank, a late-Ottoman commercial building was reborn as 10 Karakoy by local design practice Autoban in 2014. The five-storey neoclassical facade — arched ground-floor openings, rusticated stone base, symmetrical fenestration lit warmly against Istanbul's blue-hour sky — had served as a bank before its conversion into 71 rooms and suites, and Autoban resisted the temptation to erase that institutional gravity entirely. Inside, the retained central atrium becomes the hotel's most persuasive moment: a field of brass ring pendants in varying diameters suspended above a double-height arcade of limestone arches, the installation hovering between jewellery and celestial diagram. Guest rooms sustain the dialogue between the building's century-old bones and a sharper contemporary sensibility — Venetian-plastered walls in warm sand tones, herringbone oak floors, and teal velvet armchairs with blonde wood frames that carry a quiet mid-century lineage. Suite-category rooms gain arched window recesses deeply set into the thick masonry, dove-grey silk drapes pooling onto vintage-style kilims beneath coffered ceilings with soft backlit reveals. On the roof, the glazed Bahane on10 restaurant frames rooftop Istanbul through floor-to-ceiling glass, the city's layered Ottoman and Byzantine skyline functioning as the room's dominant decorative element.

"Perfect location between old and new. This hotel is a 1 minute walk from the Galata bridge, positioned between all of the must see sites. Great food is all around the hotel also. Friendly, helpful staff, very clean rooms."

"Wonderful stay at a beautiful, spotless hotel with a kind staff. A very special thank you to Ferit, who was incredibly attentive and professional throughout our stay. He was always checking on us, lent us a transportation card, and patiently showed us how to use the ferry and public transport and gave us great tips to know the area and main attractions. His level of care truly made us feel special and well looked after. Arda was also very helpful with great ideas and planning. The hotel is perfectly well located from public transportation, near Galata Tower, surrounded by great restaurants, and in a quiet yet very accessible area. Highly recommended!"

"I stayed at 10 Karaköy Istanbul Hotel for a four-night business trip in a Premium Suite. The location is exceptional — right near the Peninsula Hotel, surrounded by great restaurants and shopping, and within walking distance to the Galata Bridge and the historic area, which is a major plus. The hotel itself, however, feels a bit rundown and does not fully match the expectations for a business stay. Despite requesting a workspace in advance, there was no suitable desk or space to comfortably use a laptop, and the Wi-Fi throughout the hotel was very poor, making it difficult to work. The hotel is also quite dark, with limited natural light, and there is no outdoor seating or access to fresh air, which is worth bearing in mind when booking. Breakfast was very good quality overall. The coffee was acceptable, though limited to filter coffee only. Overall, this hotel works well if location is your top priority, but for business travellers needing reliable Wi-Fi, light, and workspace, it may not be the best choice."
