PB hotel design editorial
A late Ottoman mansion in Istanbul's Beyoglu district, its white stucco facade encrusted with Corinthian pilasters, arched windows, and baroque cartouches, was the last building anyone would expect to anchor a Soho House. Yet the contrast is precisely the point. Soho House Istanbul took over the Palazzo Corpi, a nineteenth-century Italianate palace that once served as the United States Consulate, pairing it with a contemporary wing designed by local practice Autoban — the same studio behind 10 Karakoy — whose raw concrete columns and dark-framed curtain wall sit directly against the restored historic structure without apology. The interiors, handled by the Soho House in-house design team, work the tension between these two buildings into a layered material language. Guest rooms in the new wing carry polished-plaster walls, freestanding roll-top baths, and antique Ottoman sideboards alongside mid-century armchairs in dusty rose velvet and brass sputnik chandeliers — the effect closer to an edited Istanbul apartment than a hotel room. Anatolian kilims ground beds dressed in chevron-weave throws, while carved wooden headboards reference regional craft without sliding into pastiche. Cecconi's, the house restaurant, unfolds beneath a black steel-and-glass conservatory roof, its marble-topped open kitchen and bentwood cafe chairs giving the space the easy authority of a Venetian all-day brasserie. Between the two buildings, a cobbled garden planted with box and olive has become one of the neighbourhood's more persuasive outdoor rooms.

Soho House Istanbul Reviews
"A stay of two halves. Several staff members were truly delightful and super helpful, though sadly others were the opposite. Our first room smelled strongly of smoke; we were advised all rooms are non-smoking, but staff confirmed other complaints on that floor and we were swiftly moved to an upgraded room, for which we were grateful. However, a very strange situation occurred regarding my belongings. After returning home, I realised a new bottle of Jo Malone was missing. It is quite a mystery to me how it was overlooked during packing, as all my cosmetics were clearly stored on the vanity unit. Even more puzzling was the hotel’s response: they confirmed housekeeping did indeed have the bottle, yet they have been unwilling or unable to assist with its return. While the initial room move was handled well, the lack of support regarding my property has left me with a very disappointed and confused impression of the service here."

"We stayed at Soho House Istanbul in October to celebrate my mother’s birthday, together with my sister, and it was a truly memorable experience. Our room was absolutely outstanding — a beautiful two-storey space with an exceptional layout and generous proportions. There was plenty of room for all of us, and it was genuinely unlike any room I have ever stayed in before. Stylish, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, it felt both luxurious and welcoming, making the celebration even more special. The food was another highlight of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed dining at the reception bar, where the atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, and the food was consistently excellent. Cipriani was, as expected, superb — impeccable service and outstanding dishes in a wonderful setting. The facilities throughout the house are impressive, and everything is beautifully maintained. The overall atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, making it ideal for both special occasions and relaxed stays. Worth mentioning the lady at the reception was very unpleasant and even arrogant in discussing with clients, but that’s probably a message for the administration rather then review as it did not really affect my stay, just a little pissed off when I had to ask her something. Soho House Istanbul exceeded our expectations in every way and provided the perfect backdrop for a family celebration. We would not hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and elevated experience in Istanbul."

"Soho House was a pleasant surprise. We only stayed one night, but if I had known how good it was, I would have stayed every day of my stay in Istanbul. Super trendy hotel. Very well decorated and in a great location. The staff were very friendly and available for all your needs. Wonderful fitness center. As we left very early, we didn't have breakfast... but I would definitely stay at the hotel again. We stayed in a fabulous corner suite!"

"We had an amazing time at this Soho house. The front of house manager Mehmut was super helpful - he helped us navigate the city and was kindness itself. Hopefully he'll come to London to see us! All the staff were excellent and the bar area was beautifully furnished and a great place to hang out."

"This was my third visit to Soho House Istanbul, and it remains a stylish and vibrant destination in the heart of the city. There's much to love here, though a few areas could use some attention. The Club House - A Highlight: The club house is absolutely beautiful and such a fun place to spend an evening. The atmosphere is lively and sophisticated, perfect for socializing, working, or simply soaking up the creative energy that Soho House is known for. It's a fantastic social hub and really captures the essence of what makes Soho House special. The Rooms - Classic Soho Style: The rooms have that signature Soho House aesthetic - characterfully designed, comfortable, and full of interesting details. You can tell thought has gone into the décor and ambiance. However, there's a significant issue: the hotel is far too dark. While moody lighting can be atmospheric, the darkness throughout is actually impractical. Case in point - I literally stepped on a discarded cigarette packet on the floor because I simply couldn't see it. That's not just a lighting issue; it's also a housekeeping oversight that shouldn't happen. Bathrooms Need Attention: While the rooms themselves are lovely, the bathrooms definitely need updating and some TLC. More importantly, the lighting in the bathroom is woefully inadequate. Trying to apply makeup in the morning was genuinely difficult - you need proper lighting for this! It's a simple fix that would make a huge difference to the guest experience. Excellent Spa & Hamam: The hamam is truly great - an authentic Turkish experience that's both relaxing and invigorating. The spa facilities are lovely too and provide a wonderful escape. These wellness areas are definitely a strength of the property. Food - Much Improved!: I'm delighted to report that Soho House Istanbul has really upped their game with the food. The quality and taste have improved significantly since my previous visits - everything we had was delicious. The breakfast was particularly fabulous, with a great selection and excellent quality throughout. This is a real positive change and shows they're listening and evolving. Location - Central But Busy: The hotel is right in the center of Istanbul in a very busy, crowded, and noisy area. This is a double-edged sword - you have easy access to most of Istanbul's attractions, restaurants, and nightlife, but you're also dealing with the chaos and noise of a bustling district. If you're a light sleeper, be aware that it can get loud. That said, the convenience of the location is hard to beat. Overall Thoughts: Soho House Istanbul has the bones of a five-star experience - the style, the club house atmosphere, the improved food, and excellent spa facilities. However, the oppressive darkness throughout the hotel and the tired bathrooms hold it back from being truly exceptional. These are fixable issues, and I hope they'll be addressed. Despite these criticisms, I keep coming back, which says something! The energy, the social scene, and the improvements they've made (especially with food) show they're moving in the right direction. Recommendations for Soho House: Install brighter, adjustable lighting throughout Update bathroom fixtures and lighting urgently Maintain higher housekeeping standards in darker areas Bottom Line: A stylish, fun hotel with a fantastic club house and great location, but practical improvements are needed. Worth visiting for the Soho House experience, just bring a torch for the bathroom! The resident cats are delightful!"
