PB hotel design editorial

Few hotel addresses anywhere arrive with quite this much geography. Set directly on the Karaköy waterfront where the Bosphorus opens toward the historic peninsula, The Peninsula Istanbul was established in 2023 within four adjacent buildings, three of them protected heritage landmarks carrying the Bauhaus and Art Deco confidence of early twentieth-century Istanbul. The fourth was built new to complete the ensemble. From the water, the composition is immediately legible: a white-columned mid-century facade at the centre, a clock tower rising behind it, green-canopied terraces stepping down to a teak dock where Topkapi and the minarets of the old city float on the far shore. Inside, Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu — Turkey's most internationally recognised interior designer — brings a disciplined hand to what could easily have tipped into pastiche. The 177 rooms and suites layer dark ebonised joinery against gold-panelled headboards, custom carpets patterned with abstracted Ottoman geometry, and side tables surfaced in deeply veined stone. Marmara marble, wood-and-mother-of-pearl inlay, and traditional glazed tilework appear throughout, but always within a framework that feels closer to a considered private residence than a period recreation. The rooftop restaurant, designed with retractable skylights and rattan dining chairs in pale blue, dissolves the boundary between interior and the Bosphorus sky above it, while Enzo Enea's waterfront gardens give the whole complex a planted, breathing edge that softens the transition between city and sea.

The Peninsula Istanbul Reviews

"After staying at many luxury hotels in Istanbul, The Peninsula Istanbul has officially become our favorite. It truly stands out and is now the hotel we will return to every time we visit the city. Everything about our stay was exceptional. The breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options. The spa is elegant, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring Istanbul. The highlight for us was the beautiful heated outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Bosphorus. Even on cooler days, it is warm enough to enjoy a swim while taking in one of the most breathtaking views in the city. It creates a truly unforgettable experience. The staff were consistently kind, welcoming, and professional, always happy to help with anything we needed. I genuinely cannot find a single negative thing to say. From the service to the facilities, everything was flawless. If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury hotel in Istanbul, The Peninsula is simply the best. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to return."

"What a wonderful hotel! We did the meet and greet where they drive you from airport to the golden horn and their boat picks you up from there to the hotel. We also used their boat for a sun set trip and dinner. We were upgraded on arrival and everything was perfect. We leave tommorow but we will return for sure"

"Just returned from 3 nights at the Peninsula Istanbul and was very impressed by the opulence of the hotel and the incredible staff. It was the finest Peninsula property we have stayed in. Grounds, setting and room details were absolutely top shelf while maintaining a level of warm and attentive service. Every single employee was well trained and outstanding. Those details are very rare these days and did not go unnoticed to our family. German Tezgor leads an outstanding Guest Services team and Gotham Sedef oversaw great dining experiences. Would highly recommend"

"Three nights out of four kept up by the hotel party music. If you are looking for somewhere to relax after sightseeing DO NOT STAY HERE. I am typing this at approaching midnight. The manager tells us the party will finish at 02:00am. It would not be so bad, but the diesel engines from the boats wake you up early morning. I came on holiday, but I have had 4 sleepless nights."
