PB hotel design editorial

Few hotel addresses anywhere arrive with quite this much geography. Set directly on the Karaköy waterfront where the Bosphorus opens toward the historic peninsula, The Peninsula Istanbul was established in 2023 within four adjacent buildings, three of them protected heritage landmarks carrying the Bauhaus and Art Deco confidence of early twentieth-century Istanbul. The fourth was built new to complete the ensemble. From the water, the composition is immediately legible: a white-columned mid-century facade at the centre, a clock tower rising behind it, green-canopied terraces stepping down to a teak dock where Topkapi and the minarets of the old city float on the far shore. Inside, Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu — Turkey's most internationally recognised interior designer — brings a disciplined hand to what could easily have tipped into pastiche. The 177 rooms and suites layer dark ebonised joinery against gold-panelled headboards, custom carpets patterned with abstracted Ottoman geometry, and side tables surfaced in deeply veined stone. Marmara marble, wood-and-mother-of-pearl inlay, and traditional glazed tilework appear throughout, but always within a framework that feels closer to a considered private residence than a period recreation. The rooftop restaurant, designed with retractable skylights and rattan dining chairs in pale blue, dissolves the boundary between interior and the Bosphorus sky above it, while Enzo Enea's waterfront gardens give the whole complex a planted, breathing edge that softens the transition between city and sea.

The Peninsula Istanbul Reviews

"My stay at the Peninsula Istanbul truly lived up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful Peninsula hotels in the world. Its location along the Golden Horn is simply exceptional — from the peaceful early morning light to the breathtaking sunset views, every moment felt magical. I stayed in a Grand Deluxe Garden Room, which was absolutely stunning. The private garden was spacious and offered direct access to the waterfront, creating a unique sense of tranquility and privacy. The hotel facilities are brand new, beautifully designed, and perfect for a relaxing staycation. I also had the pleasure of enjoying the Peninsula Time experience and was delighted to receive the iconic Peninsula teddy bear — a lovely touch that made the stay even more memorable. Another highlight is the complimentary luxury car service within a 3 km radius, which makes getting around incredibly convenient. A special thank you to the hotel’s professional team — truly one of the most attentive, warm, and outstanding service teams I have ever encountered. I sincerely hope to return again in the future."

"The location is excellent. There seems to be a new walkway where you can walk if you feel like to a lot of cafes. The central lobby feels like a typical Peninsula location. The style has Turkish touches which is very nice such as serving you tea in your room when you arrive. The rooms are large. The deco was very golden and not too modern. It was very clean. I had an issue with the resturant above my head one night but this was solved in a good manner. The service was good. The breakfast service was excellent. The spa was very lovely. One of the nicest I have ever seen. Turkish evil eyes blue on the pool wall which was nice. The gym was good. An outdoor pool looks great for the nice weather. Overall I think I have found my new home to stay in Istanbul.. it ticks all the boxes!"

"We stayed here during our son’s spring break trip. The hotel is well located on the European side of Istanbul directly on the Bosporous. The rooms are large and modern inside 4 old and charming heritage buildings from the early 1900s that have been connected together and restored with great care. There is a really neat swimming pool and sun deck right by the Bosporus. Be sure to go up to the rooftop bar that has an open air terrace overlooking the Bosporus and the Asian side of Istanbul as well. I can’t say enough good things about this hotel and more importantly its staff. Jonathan Crook, the GM of the hotel has assembled a world class team here and it shows in the way the hotel is run and the staff interact with you. Everyone from doorman to chambermaid is super friendly and attentive. I would like to specially recognize Gurkan Aslan, the head concierge and Janset Barlas, the Head of Rooms for taking such good care of us and replying to our incessant queries prior to arrival. They arranged cars, tour guides and restaurant bookings and made sure all was well in our room with professionalism and cheeriness. We are definitely coming back!"

"I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel! As a seasoned traveler, the Peninsula Istanbul is among the best experiences we’ve had. Not only are the rooms well appointed, posh, and luxuriously finished, the service is THE best. The staff is warm and operates like a well-oiled machine, offering the full gamut of services and amenities with a smile. This was consistent from the time of check-in, to the complimentary breakfast service via Amex Platinum, to the concierge service with whom we communicated via phone. The Front House manager Dilara Yirmaz approached us multiple times to check how our stay was going and offered use of the house car when we visited Topkapi palace. The hotel is situated along the waterfront, perfect for touring, but she insisted on the car rather than have us walk given the forthcoming rain and steep hills en route. The restaurant, Gallada, was exceptional and maintained the consistent service to accompany an exquisite meal in a gorgeous elegant setting. On our last day, we had to catch a 6:30am flight back home and they prepared breakfast boxes for our journey which was the perfect touch to end the trip. I like Istanbul as a city but I LOVE this hotel and will miss it even more. A perfect retreat when you want to indulge and be pampered. I give my highest recommendations!"
