PB hotel design editorial

Drawn from the visual language of Asian pavilion architecture and set against the raw coral limestone of Turks and Caicos, Amanyara opened in 2006 as one of the Aman group's most formally resolved tropical retreats. Architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston International brought the same vocabulary he developed across Aman's Southeast Asian properties — deep-pitched timber roofs, teak louvre screens, platform beds raised on stone plinths — and transplanted it with surprising conviction onto Providenciales' northwest point, where the water shifts from turquoise shallows to deep Atlantic blue within a few hundred metres. The property's forty pavilions and villas sit low among the island scrub, their interiors finished in warm-toned timber with polished concrete floors and ceilings that expose the structural logic of the roof framing above. The images confirm the characteristic Gathy palette: teak slatted walls doubling as room dividers, white linen beds set on raised timber-edged platforms, and full-height louvred panels that dissolve the boundary between interior and ocean. The circular main pavilion, its conical shingle roof carried on a colonnade of warm timber columns, mirrors across a still reflecting pool at dusk in a composition that feels simultaneously vernacular and precise. Freestanding canopied daybeds positioned at the infinity pool's edge complete the resort's signature image — architecture reduced to the essentials of shelter, water, and horizon.

"Having stayed at Amans across Asia and Europe we were excited but this location did not meet expectations. The hotel was crowded and noisy - making us wonder what happened to the serenity of the Amans we preciously enjoyed. The service was even worse - when we checked in, we were told we could not book the day beds at the pool because they were first come, first served. When we went to the pool- even though all of the beds were empty we were told we could not use them because they were reserved for a large corporate event - the staff explained that while we could not book the beds as guests - they were willing to reserve them for large groups - even though no one from the group was at the pool and the beds sat empty. The food at the pool and the Japanese/asian restaurant was great - but the Italian restaurant tasted as if the salt shaker had fallen into the dish. While there were a couple of wait staff who were exceptional - all in all, I would not recommend. If you’re looking for a luxury vacation in Turks - visit Parrot Cay - much better experience."

"We had a terrific long weekend at Amanyara. Our villa was secluded and beautiful. The common area was spacious and well equipped. The private infinity pool was warm and the tranquil views looked over a small waterway/lake that felt more like a nature reserve than a resort. The outdoor shower was a favorite. Oscar was more than accommodating. The whole resort feels private. Though it was at full capacity we didn’t see many other people most days. If you are a fan of people watching on vacay - this place might disappoint. Breakfast in the main restaurant was delicious and had a wide variety of choices. Good lunch at Beach Club - the pizza and Greek salad were fresh and delicious. We had our final dinner in the villa - the homemade Thai cuisine was at the top of the best we’ve had. The beach was beautiful. Water looks fake it’s so clean and blue. Pics don’t do it justice. No issues getting chaise chairs and towels. Sunscreen and aloe are available at the beach entrance. We loved riding the bikes and took the golf cart out a few times too. We had some rain and there were large golf umbrellas available everywhere. Tennis and pickle courts, gym and Pilates studio were all top notch. The only complaint was that the snorkeling boat left without us despite arriving to the meeting spot a few mins early. Must have been a miscommunication between Oscar and the crew but they couldn’t explain why they left. Unfortunately we never got to go due to our schedule. Overall a magical place. Highly recommend for a tranquil retreat."

"Amanyara is considered a 5 star property. Pros: -Beautiful grounds/aesthetics -Nice secluded & private beach -Bicycles & golf carts available to drive you around Cons: Food, Food, and Food! Unless you want sushi every night or mediocre Italian those are your only options. It's very limited, not creative and average at its best. If your foodie this is NOT for you Off the beat and path: this resort is about 30 minutes from Grace Bay and the airport touristy area. To get here you literally travel down a road for the second half of the trip which is treacherous. You will need a high jeep or truck to get through it. Crater holes and rough off road type terrain for at least 18 minutes. Not lit, and very dangerous at night. So if you're looking to get out at night or find better food, it was hell getting back in the dark on roads like this. It's completely off road driving. No joke! If you stay at the resort you're marooned. Unless you rent a jeep (we did) or pay 500-800 round trip for a car service! Crazy crazy. Expensive: at least 3000+ per night and to me barely worth $500 per night Service: folks are friendly for sure. However, if you're accustomed to service like the Four Seasons, Ritz or Belmond I believe you will be disappointed. I felt like when we asked you were accommodated (like asking for a menu on the beach), but it wasn't offered. Beach service limited Other: Flies every where! Leaving the resort is discouraged, because it's literally getting shaken baby syndrome from the ride in and out. This is not the Aman standard at its best."

"In general Amanyara is our favorite place to disconnect, reset, and truly enjoy life. We have visited many times over the past couple of years, and every single stay reinforces why we keep coming back. Our most recent visit in November was once again exceptional and deeply personal. Not only was the entire trip organized flawlessly from A to Z, but we were also generously upgraded—together with our close friends—which speaks volumes about the thoughtfulness, recognition, and genuine care of the team. Every evening felt unique, with different dinners each night, perfectly executed and tailored, never repetitive. The service throughout the resort is first-class in the truest sense—effortless, intuitive, warm, and never intrusive. This is hospitality at the highest level. The beach The crystal clear waters of Malcom beach, its snorkeling and the reef in swimming distance directly in front of the property is simply outstanding. The major advantage is it’s location, since it’s on the western part of the island, the current always passes and pushes potential sargassum out and it’s there flawless all year around! Rooms & Pavilions The rooms and pavilions are exceptionally designed—spacious, serene, and timeless, with absolute privacy. Everything feels intentional, from the layout to the materials, and the connection between indoor and outdoor space is seamless. The pavilions never feel like hotel rooms; they feel like private residences designed for calm and comfort. Cleanliness & Maintenance Cleanliness is impeccable throughout the entire property. Every detail is well maintained, yet nothing ever feels clinical or overdone. The resort manages to feel pristine while remaining warm and lived-in—an extremely difficult balance that Amanyara executes flawlessly. Value & Pricing While Amanyara is undeniably costly, it is worth the price. You are not paying for excess—you are paying for consistency, discretion, space, privacy, and people who truly care. The value becomes evident in the seamless organization, the quality of service, and the fact that everything simply works, every single time. Noise Level & Atmosphere The overall atmosphere is one of deep tranquility—quiet, peaceful, and restorative. This is not a loud or party-driven resort. That said, there is a beautiful sense of life and rhythm: live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays adds warmth and character without ever disturbing the serenity. It enhances the experience rather than detracts from it. Adults & Families Amanyara is exceptional for adults seeking peace, privacy, and refinement, but it is also wonderfully suited for visits with children. The space, safety, nature, and thoughtful staff make it easy to enjoy the resort as a family—without compromising the calm that adult guests value so highly. Amenities The amenities are outstanding, including a world-class Technogym setup, which allows us to keep our routine while still fully relaxing. What truly sets Amanyara apart, however, is its people. The staff is extraordinary—many of whom have been here for 20+ years, a testament to how well the local team is respected, valued, and cared for. That culture is felt everywhere. The General Manager, Tom, whom we are proud to call a personal friend, leads with authenticity, generosity, and passion, and it shows in every detail of the guest experience. Special thanks to Uri, Annette, Claudin, and Madrine—your warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness are a big part of why this place feels like home to us. Amanyara is not just a resort. It is a sanctuary. A place where everything feels right, every time. We cannot imagine a better destination to disconnect, recharge, and create lasting memories—and we already look forward to our next visit. Best, Stefan"

"There are places you visit… and there are places that become part of your heart. For us, this is Amanyara. We have returned many times over the years and every single visit feels as mesmerizing as the first. The architecture blends seamlessly into the turquoise waters and natural landscape, creating an atmosphere of a calm and extraordinary peace, privacy and understated luxury. What makes Amanyara truly exceptional, however, is the people. The team treats us with such warmth, attention, and genuine care that every stay feels deeply personal. It is not just service — it is thoughtfulness, and kindness in every detail. We are endlessly grateful to the entire team for making each stay so incredibly special. We will always return."
