PB hotel design editorial

Grace Bay's most consistently refined address arrived when the property formerly known as Gansevoort Turks + Caicos was reimagined and relaunched as Wymara Resort and Villas in 2017, its low-rise white stucco blocks reoriented around a long central pool corridor that draws the eye directly toward the Caribbean. The architecture — three-storey pavilions arranged symmetrically along a landscaped spine of royal palms and teak decking — carries the atmosphere of a well-edited South Florida modernist compound rather than a conventional all-inclusive resort, the massing broken into residential-scaled volumes with deep balconies glazed in frameless glass. Interiors follow the same discipline of restraint. Guest rooms pair white-lacquered panel headboards with warm oak platform beds and raw-edge teak side tables, large-format porcelain tile floors keeping the palette cool underfoot while sheer linen curtains filter the turquoise light flooding in from the sea. The Pink Bar, its louvred canopy pergola shading charcoal modular seating on pale stone terracing, anchors the social sequence between pool and beach with an ease that avoids the usual resort bar theatrics. Inside, the restaurant sets travertine-clad walls against faceted glass chandeliers and suspended manta ray sculptures, the blue ambient lighting on each table echoing the reef just beyond the glass doors. Across 90 rooms and suites, the effect is closer to a private members' resort than a branded Caribbean hotel.

"We are currently staying at Wymara and it is a lovely property. Surprised at check-in with an upgrade to a beautiful room for our milestone celebration. Stunning island. While our friends who often visit TC suggested the Palms, I chose Wymara at a quieter section of the beach for the peace, privacy, and the bit more of seclusion it provides. We have had a few difficult years and I wanted a quiet week with just me and my children without a lot of noise. Our room is lovely and our dinner on the beach last night was very good. Tonight at Indigo was also very good. The property excels in many areas as is evident in numerous reviews and the staff is very friendly. My experience re the service, however, has been somewhat of a disappointment. Due to extenuating circumstances re my recent divorce, I was left only with a Discover card. I am fortunate to have other financial resources, however, I had to make the reservation on a family member’s VISA card because the property does not accept Discover. Wymara worked with me and made special arrangements that allowed me pay the final two nights before I left the US. I was able put money on my children’s VISA cash cards to pay for our expenses and activities each day since it a cashless property. While awkward and slightly embarrassing, it is what it is and it has worked fine. I was so thankful the staff accommodated our situation and everything would be fine if….. it didn’t feel like we receive less attentive service because we didn’t whip out the black Amex. Almost every review I read highlighted the impeccable, personal service at Wymara. Perhaps I am oversensitive because of the awkward financial arrangements I had to make to stay at a cashless property that does not accept Discover. But from calling three times last night over a 21/2 period for turndown service (my son is using the sleeper sofa and there are no linens or bedding provided so service was essential) and requesting turndown service again tonight before going to dinner at 7 and it being 11:27pm now with no service provided, that is a very different level of service compared to the reviews I read. I feel like I can barely make a move without being asked to sign for everything. Even though it is charged to our room. I guess it’s a gratuity thing but it’s a hassle. I have teenagers who I expected would be able to enjoy their days on the beach ordering as they pleased without having to sign each time they order something and calculate gratuity. Why not wait until end of day? They have our room number and it’s a small resort. We had a beach dinner last night when there was an unexpected downpour and I stayed bc I saw the waiter searching for us. He brought the bill, even though I had reservations attached to my room, but never returned after I signed. I finally just gave it to the first server I could find after waiting over 10min for him. Repeat experience on the beach today. The beach attendant saw us packing up to return to our room and hurried over to make sure we didn’t leave before he retrieved the bill. We waited and waited but the guy never returned. I finally found him at the pink bar visiting with other staff. Again, just so different than the reviews I read online re five star service. And tonight? With all of the beautiful seating in the restaurant and despite having reservations, we were seated right next to the service door. Coincidence? Maybe? But combined with our other early experiences, it doesn’t feel like it. It’s just a general feeling of being treated as second class guests. I absolutely realize how privileged I am to be here and I am grateful for the experience. But as a comparison, I was far more impressed with the service we received while glamping at the more simple “Under Canvas” in the Grand Canyon. Charges were quietly and seamlessly added to my account without me constantly signing and calculating gratuity. No waiting for a bill each time we popped in for a drink or sat down for a snack. Classy and easy. All with a Discover card and cash. It was so much more relaxing for the guest. Here I feel a bit like someone is worried we’re going to swim off into the night and leave a bill unpaid."

"Wow. What a great experience. Most specifically - the service and the people. Everyone was just SO NICE and extremely attentive. And for that - I’m going to make some shout outs. The massages. Omg. The folks there are SO GOOD. I got a pregnancy massage (they have a special pillow) and my husband deep tissue. Also did a facial. Shout out Indra, Amoy, Samorn, Karen. The hostess Diana at Indigo restaurant was just so friendly. I can’t even explain her but she just sticks with you. The fitness classes every day - the spa manager, Deep, did sound baths and Pilates. Also - Naama, an outside contract (I guess?) did amazing hiit classes. It was just the perfect balance. The first night we did the seafood buffet and it was awesome. One of the cooks did shrimp on demand. Sooo good. His name was Analdo. Also, the live entertainment, Raj the singer, was awesome!! Shout out to the whole concierge team. Arian (she remembers you by name every time!) Jay and T. And even the lady who works in the gift shop and the gentleman (Jefferson) who does the towels by the pool. What an incredible experience. Thank you!"
