PB hotel design editorial

Framed against the full sweep of the Dubai skyline — the Burj Khalifa cutting the haze behind it — the low-rise, U-shaped block that houses Mandarin Oriental Jumeira sits in deliberate counterpoint to the vertical ambitions of the city at its back. The building, which opened in 2021 on Jumeirah Beach, was designed to turn its face to the Gulf rather than the skyline, its seven-storey facade of horizontal glazing and travertine-clad balconies stepping back in tiered terraces toward a palm-lined pool and a wide private beach. The geometry creates an internal courtyard resort logic rare in Dubai, where the default gesture is always upward. Interiors across the hotel's 256 rooms and suites carry a layered coastal palette — chevron-laid oak flooring, deep teal upholstered sofas, tufted linen headboards with brass pendant clusters — that sits closer to a well-appointed Mediterranean villa than a Gulf resort. Decorative dresser panels inlaid with abalone-like mother-of-pearl and lattice-patterned scatter cushions nod to regional craft without leaning on cliché. The upper-floor restaurant, visible in the images, uses warm-toned timber slat ceilings and rattan barrel chairs against geometric-patterned carpet, the floor-to-ceiling glazing framing a Burj Khalifa panorama that functions almost as a suspended artwork. The lap pool terrace, flanked by tall fan palms and bougainvillea borders, delivers the rare sense of genuine resort seclusion that the neighbourhood otherwise makes difficult to achieve.

"One of the best hotels in Dubai, location is perfect, close to everything. Nice beach, delicious food, excellent service. Rooms are spacious with great views. Special thanks to the staff that every time makes it feels like home away from home, special thanks to Anchal from reception and to staff from The Bay restaurant."

"The hotel is beautiful, amongst the very best in Dubai. We stayed in a junior suite which was breathtaking and must be seen to be believed. We booked the Club which was beyond my expectations and in my experience the best club of any hotel. We had a chef cooking an à la carte menu of stunning dishes taking breakfast to a new level. The coffee was amazing and the service was more personal than I’ve experienced before. It almost seemed as though we were treated specially… The complimentary cocktails in the evening were excellent and enjoyed in the beautiful lounge. We tried the main breakfast offering to compare and were wowed by the vast variety and excellent quality. We ate at the Asian restaurant and again wowed by all of the dishes. There’s only one negative but for me it was a big disappointment. The pool. At least a third of the whole area was reserved for those paying extra for cabanas. The cabanas benefited from 2 large private pools. Of the remainder, there were few prime positions. The spot we settled on had yesterdays plates and sticky spilled drinks on the floor together with cat mess. We told the pool attendants but they didn’t want to know - not their jobs to tidy up. In fact the same mess was there everyday. The sunbeds were hard wood with an inadequate cushion which meant I was constantly turning to avoid numbness. Even worse was the pool. I think it’s 1m deep?? I literally had to sit on the floor to get my shoulders wet. This hotel was so close to being the very best. We stayed at Jumeirah Al Naseem and One & Only The Palm during the same trip and while they were both exceptionally good, the MO beats them on accommodation, restaurants, service and the club but falls miles behind on pools. My advice would be to get rid of the cabanas and open up the whole pool area to the hotel guests."

"Unfortunately, my wife and I had a very disappointing breakfast experience at Noor Lounge. The fruit selection was tasteless, the croissants had a spongy texture and did not seem fresh, and the coffee was by far the worst part. I had to ask for it to be changed twice, yet the quality was still very poor. Overall, the breakfast did not meet expectations at all."
