PB hotel design editorial

Foster + Partners rarely turn their hand to hotel design, which makes The Lana, Dorchester Collection, Dubai a genuinely unusual proposition — a 30-storey tower on Marasi Bay Marina where the architecture has been engineered as much for comfort as for spectacle. The building's twin-tower massing, connected by a glazed mid-section and visible from across Business Bay's waterway, deploys deep overhanging floor plates as passive cooling devices, while seven interlocking vertical gardens stitch greenery into the facade at intervals. Every room receives a private balcony — a consequence of the deliberately slender floor plates — and the whole composition, finished in warm champagne tones, catches the Gulf light differently through the day. Inside, Parisian duo Gilles & Boissier have translated the UAE's desert landscape into an interior palette of considerable restraint: raw and polished marble, alabaster detailing, and muted earth tones that run from warm cream through terracotta. The 225 rooms carry this language with particular confidence — textured linen headboards, rosewood millwork, and pendant lights in smoked amber glass give the guestrooms a quiet richness that avoids the aggressive glamour common to the city. The rooftop infinity pool, with the Burj Khalifa aligned at one end of its sightline, shifts the register entirely — all travertine and cream linen cabanas. Then there is the bar, whose ceiling installation of what appears to be hundreds of amber glass fragments suspended above a circular counter reintroduces the drama, on its own terms.

"Our stay at The Lana Dorchester Collection was simply exceptional. Every member of staff made us feel genuinely welcome and the service felt personal, never staged. We stayed in a Junior Marina View Suite, and the views from the balcony were breathtaking. And honestly, relaxing in the bath while taking in the Burj Khalifa light show is an experience we will never forget. The team at High Society were outstanding, warm, attentive, never intrusive. Before our arrival, I mentioned I was planning to propose, and the team quietly helped make it perfect - preparing the room, arranging an intimate table, handling everything with real care and discretion. That moment will stay with us forever. What impressed us most was how passionate the staff were. They spoke about their work with genuine enthusiasm and it shows in every little detail. By the end of our stay, we both said we’d never felt so relaxed. If you’re after true, world-class hospitality where service feels heartfelt rather than transactional, this is a place that sets a remarkably high standard. We couldn’t fault a thing - and can’t wait to return."

"Well this hotel is a typical example that non hotel brands will drastically fail when it comes to guest experiences and hospitality. So I went there with lot of expectations and booked for two days ,,,, after dragging my own suitcase from taxi ... I was told by the receptionist to fill my current address even after taking my passport. Room amenities arrived in form of three apples.. from cold storage ... It's a different matter those apples remained same for my two days stay. There was no evening service .. so if you have used your room after they cleaned in morning then rest assured they will not bother you to make the room again. The towels which needs to be very soft can compete with any budget hotel for there hardness. The spa is limited to beauty offering as its branded by dior.. so being a man it's a very limited options.... The gym is a same thing.... It's expected to have a gud gym in such a luxury hotel. The menu for breakfast is extremely limited .. the fresh juices have a different meaning here.... As orange juice was squeezed at 6 a.m and then chilled. Anything other item which is not in offering is just No... Even a gud masala tea .... The list goes on.... Overall very good physical product but extremely low on hospitality ...."

"Very disappointing experience at The Lana. The hotel is highly overrated and does not reflect the level of service expected from a luxury property. During our wedding anniversary stay, we were suddenly awakened at around 2:00 a.m. by an extremely loud fire alarm, which was genuinely frightening. After a long journey, this completely ruined what should have been a special occasion. The worst part was the poor handling of the situation. There was no clear explanation, no reassurance, and when I contacted the front desk, my call was handled unprofessionally. Even after going to reception, the only response was a simple apology with no proper explanation or effort to make things right. A luxury hotel should provide not only comfort, but also professionalism, communication, and care when guests face a stressful situation. Unfortunately, The Lana failed to deliver on those expectations."

"Booking Ref:40263318 I really enjoy my stay at hotel lana Last week i check in on June 11 and i stay 4 nights in room 2504. I had very good time the room was good and food also was good. Reason i am writing for you today is because of 1 man. The big man from the door roberto or robert not sure maybe i spell name wrong. From day one when i check in he greet me and my friend and show us to reception, this man is really kind and friendly very passionat about his job. Everyday i leave to go out i fimd him at door we talk for small while until car come he tell me about hotel and things i can do and very nice places i can eat. He tell me about the waterslide place from atlantis hotel. At night when i come back to hotel i find him again and he always have smile on his face even when others are giving hard time with him. Next day me and friend we go there we enjoy and unfortunately i get injury to my leg. When i come back to hotel lana i find him again at door, first he was happy to see me and then he was shock to find out that i get injurie from water slide. What make the stay fantastic for me is when he ask me what he can do to make more comfortable for me because of injurie. This man has treated me with dignity and respect and lot of care, from day one he was so nice it feel like i am family of hotel lana, like he is my family my brother,he make me feel like i belong at hotel lana and that i matter. It is because of this man wallah i swear that i wil come back, not for nice view or good room and food but because of this man. He is good man i can see at night he work very hard. Please do what you must do to make sure this man get credit for how he treat me wallah it was amazing. Also if you can please tell him i am verry sorry for not say goodby when i check out he was very busy helping others people, and that i wanted to say goodby i wil bring him redbul next time to say sorry.
