PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Jefferson Street in downtown Huntsville, Alabama — a city whose identity pivots between its antebellum courthouse square and its NASA-driven modernity — a seven-story new-build completed in 2021 makes a confident case for civic architecture. 106 Jefferson, part of Hilton's Curio Collection, rises with a two-tone facade of white precast cornicing over dark-framed glazing, the classical proportions of its street-level colonnade anchoring it to Huntsville's historic downtown streetscape while the roofline terrace gestures toward the city's appetite for contemporary amenity. Inside, the interiors balance competing registers with reasonable dexterity. Guest rooms deploy raised-panel wall moldings in cream against dark fluted headboards and a graphic plaid carpet in charcoal and tan, the combination landing somewhere between a renovated grand hotel and a sharp independent property — burnished walnut desks paired with Breuer-style cantilever chairs giving the workspaces a midcentury inflection. The ground-floor restaurant works harder, layering cobalt patterned wallcovering, channeled leather banquettes in cognac, reclaimed hardwood floors, and exposed steel ceiling beams into a room that draws on the energy of a classic American brasserie without quite mimicking one. The rooftop bar, where folding glass walls dissolve the boundary between an intimate interior counter and a terrace overlooking the Blue Ridge foothills, earns the building its highest point — literally and atmospherically.
