PB hotel design editorial

At the intersection of Jefferson and First streets, where downtown Phoenix's grid collides with the sprawl of sports venues and corporate towers, a 20-story building clad in dark-toned precast concrete panels and curtain-wall glass announced itself as a new kind of urban address when Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix opened in 2013. Designed by architecture firm RSP Architects, the tower pushes a deliberately contemporary massing against the Arizona skyline — the façade articulating a two-part composition visible in the images, with a white-framed upper volume stepping slightly forward from the darker base, giving the building a stacked presence that reads as residential rather than corporate from a distance. Inside, interior designer Neri interior studio worked a Southwestern-inflected palette that stops well short of kitsch: guest rooms arrive in warm taupe grasscloth wallcovering with patterned cut-pile carpet underfoot, leather platform beds anchored by branching brass lamps, and a recurring artwork — a painted blue bull's head surrounded by red birds — that carries the regional identity with genuine wit rather than illustration. The ground-floor restaurant, visible in the images, runs a full industrial register of reclaimed timber planking, exposed steel structural columns, blackened iron pendant clusters in amber glass, and wide-plank oak floors. The rooftop pool terrace, added in a later refresh, shifts tone entirely — woven rattan pendants, Calacatta marble-topped tables, draped cabanas, and terracotta planting boxes oriented toward the South Mountain silhouette.

"Great location. Great atmosphere. The room was spacious. Plus my girlfriend loved the golden morning."

"Fantastic location if attending Suns or Diamondbacks game. Great little boutique hotel right in the heart of the action. Comfortable rooms, very clean, and could be a super cool pool vibe if children were not allowed as the pool is extremely small and when filled with children the enjoyment fades for adults seeking a quiet place in which to relax. Only real negative is that they don't provide complimentary water in any form in rooms so be prepared to bring your own or pay a hefty price for a bottle of water. In all, this hotel hits on most of the marks!"

"Our staycation at The Kimpton Palomar was nothing short of spectacular! The hotel is beautiful and could not be in a better location, in the heart of downtown Phoenix. The room was breathtaking! My mom loved the huge soaking tub with bath salts and my dad was immediately drawn to the fully stocked minibar! Anything else we forgot the hotel had available at no extra charge. The amenities were fantastic! Nothing better than a glass of wine during social hour enjoyed poolside at the rooftop bar. But the staff here are what consistently make staying a 5 star experience! Donna and her team went above and beyond to make our visit nothing short of exceptional! When I told her we were there to celebrate my parents birthday she offered a hand written birthday card and chocolate dipped strawberries which they loved! In my opinion Donna is a beacon of IHG and Kimpton Palomar’s commitment to excellence, I honestly can’t thank her and her team enough for making my family feel so special. The entire team was top-notch, from Sayan helping me secure the perfect low-noise room after booking online, Alfonso who was always smiling while helping guests or backing up his team and of course, Marco for letting us pick the best seats at Eden! We loved our stay and will be definitely be back anytime we’re staying in the downtown area!"

"I want to give the Kimpton its own review; separate from the Blue Hound and the Eden, because the hotel itself absolutely deserves it. I arrived at noon on a Friday after driving in from Las Vegas, and Dylan at the front desk set the tone immediately. Before I could even ask, he let me know there were no suite upgrades available but offered me a King Premium and got me checked in on the spot. As a solo traveler who had just made that drive, being able to walk straight to a room and crash was everything. He took a few minutes to catch me up on what had changed since my last stay; the breakfast situation being the highlight of that conversation, which turned out to be… relevant. The next morning, after a rough experience at breakfast, I mentioned something at the front desk and Donna, the front-end manager, stepped in immediately, not defensively, but genuinely wanting to understand what happened and make it right. That kind of accountability is rare. Saturday night brought a similar hiccup at the bar, and Sayan handled it the same way: professionally, without hesitation. The room was exactly what I’ve come to expect from Kimpton, clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. But the real story here is the staff outside the restaurant. Dylan, Donna, Sayan, these are hospitality professionals who actually care, and it shows. The hotel itself earns every star."

"We stayed for the nights of May 7-8, 2026. From start to finish, we were treated like family and best friends! Our front desk hosts, Donna and Jessica, are amazing - not only super professional but also very kind, thoughtful and generous! The hotel is awesome - the bar, Blue Hound restaurant, and the pool are all fantastic. We got free passes to the Eos Gym across the street which is a great gym. We would highly recommend staying here for your next trip to Phoenix. Many thanks to Donna and Jessica!! ❤️"
