PB hotel design editorial

When Samuel F.B. Morse founded the Del Monte Properties Company and opened Pebble Beach Golf Links in 1919, the low-slung white clubhouse building at its edge was always intended to be more than a place to sleep — it was the anchor of an entire invented landscape. The Lodge at Pebble Beach has grown around that original structure ever since, spreading across the 18th fairway in a campus of white clapboard and warm adobe-toned low-rise wings whose dark wood balconies, visible in the images, step down toward Stillwater Cove in unhurried horizontal layers. Inside, the atmosphere belongs firmly to the tradition of the great American golf resort rather than to any particular design movement. The interiors, refreshed in recent renovations, work in a palette of warm greige and slate blue — tufted linen sofas, upholstered headboards in dove grey, glass-topped iron coffee tables, and plaid accent chairs that carry a quiet nod to the Scottish links heritage of the game itself. Wide louvered shutters frame the slider doors leading to the teak-railed decks, where Monterey Bay spreads in full view. The main lounge opens to a terrace through floor-to-ceiling white-painted glazing, the arrangement framing the 18th green and the Pacific beyond as deliberately as any painting. The 212 rooms and cottages across the property share this same compositional instinct: every window, every deck angle, treats the golf course and the sea as the primary design element.

"PB has become a golf machine where you are a faceless number being moved through the appropriate paces, but only if everything is pre-scheduled. That said, it’s still a magnificent setting that clearly deserves the special accolades. We booked two rooms. Ours was wonderful, the children’s was average, tired, and nondescript. We also booked two dinners months in advance only to find out that those reservations were somehow lost. The very kind women at the front desk did their best to “squeeze us in” at less ideal times before they finally found our original reservations. When we got to the restaurants they were half empty. So why was it so hard to rebook? Overall though, it was a good hotel in a magical haven for golf."

"A golfers paradise that has very nice rooms with fireplaces. Bathroom had two sinks and a large shower. Beds were very nice and complimentary snacks and water was provided. Stays are expensive but Pebble Beach is a top 5 golf course in the world. Shuttle service is available to all golf courses and restaurants."

"We stayed here recently for 2 nights so my husband could play golf here and at spyglass and Spanish bay. So from a golfers perspective (husband) it was a trip of a lifetime and it was worth every penny. From my perspective (non golfer) it was like many other golf hotels we have stayed in (much cheaper) and given the cost I was surprised it wasn't more 'posh'. The room was 5* very large and the staff are lovely and the customer service was excellent, but it was just a golf hotel at the end of the day. We were there while the construction was on going and it didn't disturb us in any way. Breakfast is not included in the cost, and everything is expensive but as long as you know that in advance then it is what it is, expensive. Everyone we met was here for the golf, so expect to be surrounded by golfers. I think when the lodge is re opened it will be a little more of a special experience, having the lodge out of action was a shame, so if you have the choice go after the re opening. We did have a lovely time, and my husband enjoyed it very much, but leave your best dresses at home ladies as golf attire is the order of the day. We went for an upgraded room, but in high sight the cheapest room would have been fine. If you want souvenir's or golf clothing they have an outlet store near the aquarium in Monterey which is much cheaper."

"Meh. The view is stunning, the hotel rooms themselves are not. Plain, uninspired, no real luxury to speak of in terms of the decor or fixtures. Restaurants like Tap Room, The Bench, Stillwater Cove have menus that haven't been updated completely in years, mediocre quality food, (michelin quality cooking and baking it is not) and incredibly high prices. The value simply isn't there. Beware - there is construction expected at the various restaurants between Feb to Nov 2025 . It maybe even go past that projected November date, as when is a construction project ever finished on time? Expect that noise around those various areas disturbing your sleep or waking you or distracting from what should otherwise have been a quiet morning on vacation in your expensive hotel room. Think numerous vehicles and construction related equipment starting at about 7:00 a.m. after they let them through the gates and they are around the entire Lodge area, the stinky smell of gas and diesel exhaust, and loud beeping noises when they back up. Then starting at 8:00 a.m. expect the loud noise of construction demo and rebuild until possibly 6:00 p.m at night. Noise also travels, so even if your room isn't immediately adjacent, you may very well be disturbed with the noise as well as any possible dust/dirt in some areas near where they are working. The Lodge prices are unlikely to come down to mitigate for this inconvenience, so just be aware you're going to pay a lot to be in the midst of a construction area."

"Stayed in a standard room on the left side of the first fairway, first floor. The room was superior in every way, reflective of the price. Unlike some others, full room cleaning and turn down every day. Lots of sitting area including a patio. Pillows, towels, sheets, everything wonderful. Snacks and water bottles aplenty and included. Short walk to the Pebble shops and the restaurants in the Lodge, not to mention the first tee, makes this very convenient. Played Spyglass twice, a 5 minute drive or van ride and the great Pebble driving range is 2 minutes away. Loved dinner at the Tap Room, The Bench not so much. Also enjoyed the bag pipes at Spanish Bay and dinner at Sticks (very casual in the clubhouse)."
