PB hotel design editorial

Washington Boulevard meets the Venice boardwalk at one of Los Angeles's most electrically contested intersections — skaters, muralists, tourists, and locals in perpetual negotiation over the same strip of pavement. Hotel Erwin was built directly into that friction, a four-storey, 119-room property whose illuminated marquee facade, visible in the images with its grid of blue LED dots and bold reversed-R logotype, announces itself with the graphic confidence of a Venice Beach landmark rather than a conventional hospitality brand. The building's horizontal massing, articulated in pale render with full-width balconies stepping toward the ocean, gives the rooftop bar — High — an unobstructed sightline across the palms to the Pacific. Inside, the interiors strike an irreverent note that suits the neighborhood precisely. Guest rooms carry hand-drawn wallpaper printed with traced outlines of hands, a wink at the street-art culture a few hundred feet away, paired with copper-toned dome pendants, chrome bubble side tables, olive velvet bolster cushions, and blue-grey carpet laid wall to wall. The millwork runs to dark-stained credenzas with warm timber inlay, grounding a palette that bounces between white panelled headboards and acid-bright orange and yellow pendant shades depending on room tier. Up on the rooftop, concrete planter beds planted with ornamental grasses and agave frame the open terrace, where sunset draws the whole neighborhood up through the elevator to watch the sky dissolve over the water.

"Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff, particularly Miguel, who helped us three times throughout our trip. We come out to LA once a year and will be returning to Hotel Erwin."

"Had an exceptional stay at Hotel Erwin, thanks to Noey, Craig, and their outstanding team. Perfectly perched just steps from the energy of Venice Beach Boardwalk, the location strikes that rare balance between lively and laid-back. The amenities felt thoughtfully curated, and the service was both genuinely warm and effortlessly attentive. My room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, making it easy to settle in after long days by the ocean. Given the experience from start to finish, the value was exceptional and I’d return in a heartbeat."

"Overall, the stay was okay with some clear pros and a few frustrating issues. The location is excellent and very convenient, and the beds were extremely comfortable—definitely one of the highlights of the stay. However, there were a few areas that impacted the overall experience. Valet parking felt excessive at $55+ with taxes, especially when there are nearby lots available for $10–$20 for the entire day. The $40 amenity fee also felt high, particularly since amenities like the bikes were not actually available due to larger groups already using them. Check-in was very slow (about 25 minutes) due to only one staff member being available, which set the tone for arrival. Additionally, having only one public elevator made getting to and from the room inconvenient, with wait times sometimes reaching 10 minutes. Overall, there are some great aspects to the property, but improvements in efficiency, accessibility, and value for fees would significantly enhance the guest experience."

"We stayed here for spring break and loved it! We were in a suite with plenty of space, board games for the kids, and prime location. Room was spotless! We enjoyed the basketball courts, walked the boardwalk and ate plenty of great food. We weren't able to enjoy the rooftop for a drink but will next time! Truly recommend this great gem!"

"Hotel Erwin is always reliable, clean, and modern with very friendly staff. Well located with excellent restaurants nearby plus its rooftop restaurant is a great option - great food and drinks and view. All the staff is great -especially the ladies in the coffee shop in the morning and Miguel at the front desk. Be sure to take a bike for a beach ride! As a solo female traveler I always feel safe here."
