PB hotel design editorial

A former 1917 warehouse on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles, its red brick facade still carrying the ghost-lettered David Harvey Inc. sign visible from the street, was transformed into Soho Warehouse when the Soho House group converted the seven-storey industrial building into a 48-room members' hotel and club in 2021. The adaptive reuse project, designed by Soho House's in-house design team, kept the structural bones deliberately intact — whitewashed brick walls, exposed concrete beams, and original timber floors run through the guest rooms, grounding the interiors in the building's manufacturing past rather than papering over it. Inside the rooms, the palette moves between ochre and forest green: arched upholstered headboards in textured fabric sit against those stripped brick walls, while pairs of low-slung velvet swivel chairs and mustard-striped wool rugs pull the warmth of the 1970s without tipping into pastiche. The rooftop is where the property's Los Angeles ambitions become clearest — a long lap pool lined with wood-framed canvas cabanas, patterned chaises in painterly prints, and teak loungers arranged for the wide-open city views that stretch toward the San Gabriel Mountains. One floor below, the bar combines oversized opaline globe pendants with a cascading Murano-style disc chandelier, checker-tiled floors, and rows of terracotta-upholstered bar stools in a room that feels closer to a sun-bleached Mediterranean social club than a conventional hotel lounge.

Soho Warehouse Reviews

"I had a great stay in the Arts District at this property. The rooms were full of charm, the service was excellent, and the rooftop pool and bar were a definite highlight—with great views of the surrounding area. The location was a smart choice, within easy walking distance to several top-notch restaurants nearby"

"I'll cover the hotel as well as the restaurant - both are very good. The hotel rooms are super spacious, clean and done really well with the warehouse theme. Beds are comfortable, although we're not fans of soft pillows, but that's personal preference. And everyone has been super friendly. Service, food, and drinks at the restaurant were all really good too, and it's definitely a lively, fun and popular place. Location is pretty good too. It's a weird area, but as you explore it's really safe, and there are a lot of good restaurants, bars and galleries hidden throughout the area. Biggest downside is the gym - it's a meathead gym. People dropping weights starting at 6:00 am that can be heard and felt throughout the hotel, people talking on speaker phones, grunting loudly - it's that kind of place. Lots of good equipment, but it's definitely a downside given there don't seem to be any gym etiquette rules"

"Sixth floor restaurant review- fantastic menu, food and service. Generous portions and very tasty. Good views over the Arts District and to DTLA. Note house policy of no photos. Sixth floor club area review - full of people officing for the day using laptops but no phonecalls. Didnt feel like a relaxed hangout - super super quiet. Good service though and lots of plug points. Hotel review- Very friendly and courteous staff. No snobbery. Positives - I was staying in a Big Room which lived up to the description. Emperor bed, enormous walk in shower, tub, dining table for six. Typical Soho House / Ned fit out for mini bar and Cowshed/SKIN bathroom products. No dry cleaning on Sundays but Wash and Fold service every day. Room service from 7am. Negatives - Rooms facing Santa Fe are subject traffic noise. Also for whatever reason I had super hot water first night then only had tepid water in the room on the next two days. Engineering apparently informed ."

"Downtown LA location for SoHo House. Came here for dinner and a DJ event afterwards. The vibes are chill and the food was tasty. The three of us split the spicy salami pizza, the pasta, crudo, eggplant dip with a balloony bread similar to the one at Bavel, truffle fries, and had drinks as well. They still served me a matcha latte for dinner which made me very happy. Loved the eggplant dip and the pizza was on point as always. We left dinner feeling stuffed and satisfied. Our waiter was nice and we enjoyed a leisurely meal. There’s a rooftop with a pool and a pretty view of the skyline. The art in the lounge was really cool. Valet parking available."

"Excellent food and service. Had the Chicken Kabobs w/Orzo - asked for and received , at no extra charge, Greek rather than House Salad. The only thing that needs correction is that the plate was small so all the wonderful food was crowded. Cutting a kabob or the overly large chunks of the salad's tomato threatened to push food off the other side of the plate. The baklava, too, wasn't bite sized and hard to cut. Nevertheless, all was beautifully seasoned and prepared and, if you're lucky, you'll be seated in Meaghan's section - a thoughtful, interested and intelligent server who takes the initiative in assuring your satisfaction."
